Been growing them for almost 10 years! You forgot to mention that the purple striations on the bean disappear once cooked. My mom will eat them, but she won't cook them - just because they're called Rattle Snakes.

My papaw started growing them 25 years ago and we’ve been saving the seeds from year to year ever since. Now he’s not able to garden anymore, but I’m carrying on the rattle snake growing. They are the only green bean I like. A mess of beans with a chopped up slab of bacon and an onion cooked in them!!!! They don’t look as good canned as a white half runner, but they sure have more flavor and produce wayyyyy better.

We are growing rattlesnake beans for the first time. Got the seeds from my father's freezer. The seeds have been in there since 1989 when my grandmother passed away. Surprisingly they have grown great! Same goes for some blue lake seeds, Alabama black seeds, and black crowder pea seeds we found in the freezer. Waiting now to harvest them and see how they taste. Lots of fun!!

I got some Fortex Cross & Blauhilde pole beans from Sandhill Preservation and saved seeds, these are some real lumpy beans when they get big and produce like krazy. I'm also growing Rattlesnake, been picking snap beans every week by the bushel. Had Strike, Provider, Blue Lake 274, and Royal Burgundy bush beans. Usually, cucumbers don't grow for me but this year they produced loads of large cukes. Pumpkin & watermelon are also doing well.

I am definitely in the 'can not grow squash worth a darn' club. I saw Howard Garrett (Dirt Dr) at Mother Earth Fair and he advised to inject Bt into the stem when you plant. So I planted 2 (late). They seem to be doing fine, but are still not big enough to produce. We have had so much rain. Fingers crossed. I would love to grow some squash.

BTW they get huge if you let them grow. I harvest 12"-14" beans late in September. I followed my dad's advice "just let them grow son". They didn't get too big but they will become very stringy if you let it go too far.

There we go dancing to the beans!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!! The garden in the front lot did you fix the drainage problem as it can be fixed to hold the correct amount of moister!!!!!!!!!! One way is have deep farrows for the rain to run off to the creek or into the forest... at the bottom of the hill import gravel at the valley and have it run to the one of the 2 destination... then at the point of deportation to the creek have multi small fences holding back the gravel but the water exits to the correct spot!!!!!!!! You could double up on some of your trellis and grow 2 plant if done right ...my grandfather did by planting at different times some veggies coming and others dying off or 2 kinds of tomatoes of course your whole land was a truck garden... 3 to 5 acres in veggies at any one time!!!!!!!!
