The BEST Green Bean EVER? Rattlesnake Pole Bean Review & Cook || Black Gumbo

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I am on a quest to find the greatest green bean of them all. I'm looking for the green bean that is most flavorful and very prolific in my garden. In this video, I review the Rattlesnake Pole Bean. This being has been recommended by many of you in my comment section, so I tried it. It has turned out to be a winner, it is very prolific, and it is very tasty. In this video I will cook some beans and show you the way that I tried them. Wait until the end because my conclusions will be there. This is a very good bean, it is a winner, I like it.

I have tried to grow many beans over the years and have been dissatisfied. This year, as an experiment my daughter and I bought a bag of 15 bean soup, separated and planted what looked like one of the varieties. It is either the cranberry or the pinto in the mix. It has produced and grown so prolifically that I am picking every week and giving some away. I have never had such high yields. I am amazed. I am also amazed that I can buy a pound of beans and lentils for a dollar and have more seed than I know what to do with. My husband and I decided to expand and plant more varieties of the soup to see what comes of it. Thank you for sharing your experiences with all of us, it certainly is valuable insight.

I grew them last year for the first time. A small bed 2’x4’ produced enough for me to can 18 half pints, 3 pints and all I could eat during the season. Growing again this year.

Rattlesnake beans are the best. Cook them with very little water. No onions. Put oil in water. Cook them down until they begin to shrivel. Delicious!

Booyah!!!💃💃💃💃 Yay! Doing my happy dance. I’m so glad you like them. We’ve grown these for almost 40 years. And my father in law is the one who told me about them so no telling how many years before that they were in their family. I was so happy watching this video. So glad I suggested them to you. I also got Celebrating Appalachia eating them. Yes pick them about every three days. They are very prolific. Ours grow here in AL til August. My favorite way to eat them is with potato salad and cornbread cooked in an iron skillet. Yum! I hope these beans grow as well for you as they do for us. God bless you and your garden.

I've been growing these for several years and have observed that they sometimes take a little break in production and then come back for a final push at the end of the season (sept/oct). I'm in zone 7b N. Alabama. OH, and for something entirely different you might like to give Blauhilde pole beans a trial. They grow to 10 inches. I grow a few for cooking fresh. I tried freezing and didn't like them for that.

I paused the video to run out and plant my beans! 😁 Just stopped raining so the ground was perfect (and we're finally warming back up into the 60s this week). Planted 2 kinds of pole beans on a tall trellis, and interplanted several types of bush beans in various spots in the beds, plus some Chinese red noodle beans on an arch. Some of these are new to me - only planted bush beans last year. Thanks for the motivation!!! 👍

I've been growing rattlesnake PB's here in Virginia (7b) for several years. It has been a great producer. If you want some variety, Monte Gusto (Johnny's) is a yellow PB with good taste and little string. Also Dragon's Tongue Bush bean is prolific in small spaces and tastes great. All three are great garden snacks fresh off the vine!

My parents grew rattlesnake for years so it was a natural choice for me. I have tried a couple of other pole beans including kentucky wonder and rattlesnake is the best. usually pick them full length but before the seeds start to form. I usually just boil them with a pat of butter but this recipe looks tasty.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Don't get me wrong. Gardening tips are essential for people to learn from someone that has done it before, but the reason we garden is to eat. I love that as a side effect, people "generally" tend to get closer to nature and grow their spirituality rite along with the vegetables. I know that it has helped me. Even when the garden is a flop I get peace. 😎

Greetings from South Georgia. My neighbor grows the best rattlesnake pile beans! They are to die for. They start producing here any time after or around the 4th of July. I always string them as my family complains about strings yet they love to eat them. Will have to try your recipe. I normally put them in crock pot with salt and pepper and a bit of water on high for 4 hours and dinner is ready.

I grew some for dry beans and save for seed. I would agree about bush beans. It would take a person planting most every available spot. Rather it be in a flower bed, garden, around a tree, or your entire lawn area to produce enough dry beans for a pot of Chili.

We love the Rattlesnake pole beans best just young and fresh off the plant. We only cook them if we have gotten behind and they are bigger and stringy (like over 3/8” thick) and then we roast them. Don’t forget crop diversity is important, too! I have been reading through the comments for varieties suggested by others who also love the Rattlesnake Pole Bean. Thanks to everyone who’s shared.

Hands down, from 62 years of experience, the best and most prolific green bean I've ever grown/eaten, is the Desperado Bush Bean from Burpees. No strings. Great germination rate. Fantastic production. Compact enough to grow in a 10 gallon grow bag. We stage ours. Takes very little time to go from seed to production so we eat and freeze green beans all summer long. No trellis needed. I know. Reads like a commercial. Sincerely sorry about that but truly a great green bean so thought I'd share.

Lastly, have a question for you Scott. If you wanted to save money each year by not buying seeds, I'm assuming all you have to do is let the bean grow large and pull out the pods like you were showing near the end of the video from that one large bean. Is it as simple as that or do I need to take further steps? Gets old buying seeds every year and I'm betting it's totally unnecessary. Just need confirmation from a more experience gardener. Thanks much sir.

I just ordered a pack of them seeds. I grew contender green bean last year and didn’t like them. They had a bitter aftertaste. I just wanna grow thing I like to eat also.

Can you review Scarlett runner beans? Intrigued by the red flowers.

Have you tried the Roma green beans they’re flat and kind of short but they were enjoyable to you might want to try those yet.
