    1. Adequate protein intake -increases peptide YY, GRP1, & CCK whey protein supplements help supress appetite, reduces Grehlin, 2. Resistant starch- resists digestion in small intestine- increases Pep YY and GLP1 and CCK, feeds good gut bacteria, use at maintenance phase 3. Monounsaturated fat, olive oil increases GLP1 in insulin resistant individuals 4. Lifestyle modification matters for long run even on Ozempic.

    Hunger is like sleep, one can't sleep more than needed. The problem is not hunger per se, but emotional eating. I don't know what hunger is, I overeat bc of psychological issues, no matter how satiated my body feels. I know what, when, how to eat healthy, but I can't apply this knowledge.

    Yes, I started drinking yerba mate tea and found 2 cups (tea bags) a day suppresses my appetite quite a lot! However, it also interferes with my sleep, as the stimulation seems to last longer than caffeine alone (yerba mate also has theobromine and theophylline). So it may be best to drink yerba mate early in the day, at least when starting to use it.

    An influence of over-eating is being ignored in many of these research studies: emotional eating keeps people using food to try to address excess stress, anxiety, boredom, loneliness, pain, etc. Reducing the appetite factor will do little to affect these powerful emotional drivers. I help my hypnotherapy clients address these and find better ways to answer them beyond eating.

    You're wrong to say that this is for a beauty standard. There is a condition called lipedema which is very painful, and disfiguring and over time can put you in a walker or a wheelchair. And you can't just diet it away. This drug is very promising for that condition. Just like every single part of your body and mind can get sick, so can fat. There are legitimate fat disorders out there like lipedema, dercums, Lipomatosis, and Madelung that don't respond to what you've been taught about weight loss. Not many people or even doctors want to acknowledge this. And if you don't suffer from it, you don't know how desperate things can get.

    Dr. I'm sorry that protein just doesn't work alone. Ozempic and Wegovy help the patient to reduce food consumption. If it's as easy as you say alone by using protein, why so many bariactric surgeries and the need for semiglutide to assist in maintaining a normal diet ?

  • @DrHongsPharmacyClassroom

    True. I have no problems with people on Ozempic and wegovy when they are truly indicated for the drug. I have a friend on the drug and it works great for him. I am particularly concerned with people trying to lose a few pounds by using this drug alone, that is those who are not indicated for this drug. Off label use is the real problem and is causing some drug shortages when diabetes patients really need Ozempic for blood sugar control. Thanks for the great comment!

    @@besslee7905 what I don’t understand is why people are taking Ozempic just to lose weight, when the other brands like Wegovy are designated for that purpose. Are their doctors falsely claiming they have diabetes so they can get insurance coverage? My diabetic husband had to wait 6 months to get his first Ozempic rx filled, and refills may not be available either.

  • @besslee7905

    @besslee7905

    Жыл бұрын

    @Roxy Lee both are semaglutide. Ozempic was approved first for diabetic when doctors noticed that these diabetics were losing weight. Then docs began ordering what is called off-label prescriptions for Ozempic for the obese. Wegovy came later and is used for the obese but some docs are still ordering Ozempic instead of Wegovy. I don't believe any doctor would risk falsely claiming a patient has diabetes. This semaglutide for weight loss is relatively new and some docs may find that the insurance will approve Ozempic more so than Wegovy. I pray you are able to find and keep your Ozempic prescriptions. I am aware that some pharmacies are running out of Ozempic. Many times, large pharmacies like CVS can get Ozempic restock quickly. The real problem isn't the obese who needs semaglutide but people who just want to lose a few pounds and doctors are ordering it for them. Some people are willing to pay the 1300 dollars for a few months of semaglutide.
