WHY Oysters are EXPENSIVE! Coastal Foraging (Oyster Farm Tour)-New England pt.1

Спорт

Here we go! The first of many videos with from our trip to New England and the Northeast U.S. In the first video Brook and I visit an Oyster farm in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Bob the owner gave us a tour of the Oyster Grant which is located on a saltwater marsh and shows us how to catch and shuck oysters as well. Bob grows the oysters from inception to a mature market age which takes around 16 months! Brooks version of the video is centered more around the Quahog Clams. This is the first of many catch clean cook videos, hope you guys enjoy!

I have been living in this area for 30 plus year, and am proud to say I live this life hunting, fishing, and foraging for clam, and oysters. I have been wanting to showcase this for a long time by way of KZread but don’t have the know how and equipment to do so but I’m glad to see someone having an interest for our way of life because it’s so different.

Oyster farms are all the rage in salt ponds all over Mass., R.I., and Ct. Glad you made it up to our neck of the woods. It looks like you had a snotty day fishing for BFT, I hope you did well. Tog opens up this week, hope you get a shot at that fishery too. Have fun.

You all spent the day gathering and eating 2 of my absolute favorites. I will drive hours for great oysters. While i really like both raw, I love whole fried clams and oysters grilled Gulf Coast style. They are a lot like the oysters Brook made, but use better instead of olive oil and are grilled over a wood flame instead of oven baked. Love your guys' videos and you two are inspiring to get out there and do new things.

Not supposed to chew.quahogs are for chowder, Not to eat raw. Eat the tiny little necks , and cherrystones. No wonder you’re not enjoying those giant clams raw. Gross!! Try the NE lobster, chowder, and bisque . I’ve been living in CT my whole life and fishing since 5 with my grandpa. We do have great seafood and the Italian food in New Haven CT not too far from Mass. Wooster street pizza. Look it up. Be safe guys. We use mackerel as a bait fish for blues and stripers. Enjoy your trip . It’s freezing up here. Stay warm. PS So many types of whales. Also read the article from 7-22 about how a commercial fisherman who dove down for some beautiful big NE lobsters and wound up in a humpback s mouth. Thankfully the creature spat him out .

Just saying in warmer rivers and creeks don’t eat raw oysters, even in colder waters it’s always best to boil oysters. Not cause of the taste but they can carry the bacteria Vibrio vulnificus that can make you really sick. But as far as clams go in the US don’t try it either

Fyi you don't have to waste the rest of the scallop. The entire thing is edible.
