-We took a trip up to Chesapeake Bay Virginia to fish with Capt andrew of Sashimi Sportfishing. Our goal was to look for Bull Redfish and Cobia in the bay and the fishery did not disappoint! The Chesapeake Bay is America's largest estuary and has some incredible fishing.

Fishing out at sea is Definitely on the bucket list
Having grown up on the bay and caught some nice cobia since I was a little kid on up, I never realized how blessed I was to live here and fish it any time I wanted! Flounder, trout, reds, every year! Particularly the last two years the bay has been on FIRE with huge reds, cobia, and great trout. I’m glad that others are able to come experience it and hope it stays that way for years to come! Only wish the commercial guys would let us have our stripers back…

The fish look very cool! They pretty much look identical to arapaimas, they have the head shape and mouth and the body of a flathead catfish. But nice job catching these awesome fish!
Oh man - You're in my neck of the wood! Next time do a fan meet and greet, you might be surprised on how many people might show up including me 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤. Thanks for the cobia recipe! Looks delish! Hoping to get a cobia on a kayak before the season ends! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🍺🍺🍺🍺

I still think millions of years ago cobia and remoras were closely related. Not only do they resemble each other….just the way that cobias hang out around big sharks and rays. I don’t know, just my opinion. Epic as always, Vik. Awesome vid!

I saw a thing on it it’s cobia pretending to be remora to get free scraps of sharks and protection when they are small because next to nothing eats remoras

My theory is that since nothing eats remorse and juvenile cobia look a lot like one, they blend in with remoras on sharks, rays and turtles when they're little and that behavior carries into adulthood.

We were at the BBT last Wednesday the 3rd. Hooked a nice cobia between the 3rd and 4th island. Unfortunately we broke it off. Was my cousin's 59 b-day. His first ever hook up on one. He has fished the bay his whole life. We got the fever now and will be heading back soon. Awesome work Vic.

Welcome to VA Vic! Love seeing these videos from our play ground. Glad you boys had a great trip. You picked a great year to come. Its been ridiculously good so far this season. We've realeased more big fish(over 50") than we ever have. The Chesapeake Bay can an amazing fishery if we just use our heads and protect what we love. Tight lines.

@LandsharkOutdoors I'm happy they introduced those measures. I'm certain that lots of cobia meat was discarded years ago. I remember seeing the charter guys coming in with six 50-60 lbers consistently 15 years ago and the minimum used to be 37". No one can utilize that much fish generally speaking. With the limit being 2 and only 1 over 50" I find that I give about half of what I keep away. A couple of guys that I know have mentioned seeing a 100+lber this season. Whether they saw the same one or different ones that's a great sign. Haven't heard of anyone seeing anything like that in a several years. The size and crewl limit seems to be working well. Some other measures that will be implemented by VMRC regarding some commercial fisheries i believe will bode well for several of our species in the near future. Fingers crossed. Great video bro! Looking forward to more content from you guys!
We used to get lots of big cobia in Pensacola bay, back in the day. Super cool video.

My boy jdog “Jordan” glad y’all had a good day out there when were you up here ?
Vic and Brooke where are you? Time for a video!!
It amazes me how many people don't bleed their fish. You have no idea what your missing not bleeding your fish. Doesn't matter what kind of fish. Fresh or salt water.
You need to come fish in destin. We just had 2 guys catch 70plus lb cobia off the pier in okaloosa county.
The bays and water ways used to be even better than they are now. That conservation matters a lot especially with the shellfish
Caught a 63in in Jersey a few years back, most likely 2nd biggest in states history. Thing bull dogged me for nearly 2 hours on 30lb tackle. Weighed in at 87lbs.
I'm surprised you still don't do ikejime, shinkeijime to make the fish taste better. Also the large mesh net is splitting the fish's tail.
In VA the bay used to produce a few fish over 100lbs every year. Now 60lbs is big

Yea it’s crazy even the strippers were extremely huge in the bay
you should come lake fishing for pike here in the Netherlands for some reason the pike here grow to monster size here in NL I think it has something to do with the myth that pike is a bad-eating fish which is BS it is a very good-eating fish but, you have to filet with extreme care because pike is a bony fish. what I do is soft (par) freeze the fish first, when the filet is cut because it par frozen the bones stick out of the meat, and with pliers, you can pull the bones out also de-skin a bit high leaving a bit of meat on the skin so you can then repeat the process of de-boning from the other side and if the meat defrosts then put it back in the freezer for 20 minutes. the end result is a salmon-like as far as looks go filet without any bones the meat is not fishy to taste and is more like cod than salmon in taste. back to size, dutch lake pike can reach a size of 5 feet to in rare cases even 6 feet the reason they get that big is the Dutch don't eat pike in other European countries it is more common to eat pike so in those countries they don't get to be monsters if you want to catch clean and eat monster pike come to the Netherlands! when I was 10 in 1984 someone in my neighborhood caught a 7-foot! pike! and my street all got pike chunks! that where bigger than my head!! it was at that point that my fascination with pike began.
I was watching an episode of declassified and I said I know this guy! Viktor are you showcased on any other TV shows?
I like to know do y'all catch and clean and cook Sailfish if so can you tell me what video to lookup.
would love to fish for cobia, i've only seen it once irl up here in RI another boat hooked up to one don't know how common they are up here
Gawd you guys never heard of Pensacola, eh? nice
Fishing up in the Big Bend of FLA on the flats with Cajun Thunder corks and pinfish strips for trout n Redfish ,,,, I had a huge Redfish blow up on my cork like it was a top water lure !! The Big Redfish attacked the cork about 5 times and finally ate my bait and then just stripped drag on my spinner with 12lb test until it broke me off !!! I was pissed !! About a hour later another Big Fish blows up on my cork again !! This time it was a Cobia and after a long battle in the light spinner I caught a 42in Cobia !!! One of my most epic days with 2 monster fish blowing up on my big orange Cajun Thunder cork like a Bass chasing a Top Water !!!
Any ideas why the bottom fishing in South Florida isn’t great right now, and why the bottom water column is so cold? Lack of storms?
Come to raritan bay area in the fall for the striper run trust me it will blow your mind
Great stuff...😮😮😮But I must say when the guy hit the second fish on its head...😮😮😮my pressure spiked cos the other guy bend over forward whilst the guy with the base ball bat was abt to hit his third strike...😮😢😢😢😮
Victor, I grew up around the Bay Area and you can bet you will never see a bigger red drum from the lower Virginia Chesapeake Bay Area as well. Late summer had guys I knew catch up to 60lb fish. What you guys throwing at them? I know a lot of guys love to throw live eel at them. Cobia candy.
So glad you finally dispatched a fish, honestly not doing that was a reason for me to stay away from you're channel cause I can't support that, dispatch, then ideally blead, but the knowck out is what really matters

what reel size is he using catching the 1st cobia?
That is the biggest Cobia I’ve ever seen. I see them now & then in schools around jetties but nine are that big but the biggest is still pretty big. They seem to not be interested in anything I throw at them. The thing about fishing in the ocean is you never know what you are going to catch or how big. Just the other day I was fishing with squid in a kelp bed & I hooked up to something big it came up in the kelp bed but I couldn’t see what it was because it took off & just ran & my bad I wasn’t paying attention & I went to tighten the drag & it spooled me I thought it broke me off till I looked a saw I had know line. But whatever it was it would’ve broke me off had I tightened the drag I had 30lb braided line but the jetty rocks just chewy up your line leaving weak spots.
First cobia i ever caught was accidental. It was inshore, on a 3500 reel while snapper fishing off a seawall. It spooled me so fast and hard that my reel was literally too hot to touch. I couldn't put my hand on the reel to stop the fish and turn it. I thought it was gonna take ALL my line but it stopped just before i got to the mono backing. I still remember that fight to this day. Probably one of my most memorable moments.

I live on the bay! wouldn't trade it for any fishery
If you pulled a dingy behind the boat, you'd have 2 boats and could harvest 4 fish! 2 fish, one for each client, seems like a low limit... most people don't want to fish alone to be able to keep 2; and there is the expense of the charter (and air flight to get to the area).
I got a 93 lbser in pcb 2016
The amount of cobia that you cooked, what percentage was it of one of the fish that you caught? 25%?
👍🙏
Did he just say two fish that we don’t see much in Florida? Huh? What?! COBIA AND REDFISH!!!!?!?!!? I must live in a different Florida or something idk

Yes, you do NOT see the size we see in the Chesapeake
In the panhandle of Florida (Panama city to orange beach Al) was the best place to catch Cobia, over fishing and tournaments have made them extinct, from seeing 100-200 fish a day in the 90’s-2010 to seeing absolutely none nowadays , There are no more tournaments or a migration now.
i hooked one from the pier and it broke 80lb line and used two thirds of my spool.
The change of habit during the spawning cycle seems to be pretty different. Do you have any other fish with this habit change during the spawn? Cobia on the surface I would like to cast for them with a #10 or #11 fly rod! If they can catch Sailfish on a fly rod, why not a Cobia?
That Cobia they highlighted at 20 or 21 min in was gone! They don't stop moving. Remove barbs if you're continuing fishing for the species.
