Why Not BIllet? | 4G63 Evo IX Time Attack Upgrades [

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Even when budget is not a limiting factor, why might a team choose to use a factory block over an aftermarket billet one in a Time Attack build?
With a 2.2L stroker 4G63 MIVEC build featuring a custom billet crank, rod and pistons, Benjamin Perry of Benchmark Solutions explains why a billet block was not a consideration for this build along with covering some of the upgrades the Global Aircraft Services Mitsubishi Evo 9 has seen in order to remain competitive in the ever-popular Open Class as the World Time Attack Challenge.
Controlled by an EMtron KV8 and MoTeC PDM15 the electronics package has seen some upgrades before this event including the addition of more sensors to enable more data and refinement in the setup of the car for driver Nathan Morcom, a major suspension overhaul and a turbocharger upgrade to the BorgWarner 9280.
Transmission wise this Evo 9 is running a bolt-on Hollinger MFE9 with their paddle-shift kit which is controlled by the EMtron KV8 ECU and a MoTeC Mitsubishi Diff Controller (MDC) for the central differential torque split which is calculated by speed, pressure, G-forces and driver inputs.

    Another awesome vid, so informative! What constantly amazes me is that Evo’s are still at the cutting edge of TA. This is a car that went out of production over 14 years ago! Testament to Mitsubishi really, way ahead of its time,

    Wouldn’t of used the full Motec catalogue as the chosen tuner, Scott at insight is the developer of the Emtron ecu. Emtron to motec imo is like comparing apples to apples.

    why not billet? ohhhhh cause what we have is pretty proven. Shyea proven that it can't make billet power more like cause they can't afford it.

    Tilton Evo doesn't use a billet block, and you think that team can't afford it? What a stupid comment.

  • @Siiello

    @Siiello

    @@JDMEVOVIGSR who knows what they can afford but their car is only 1200 hp. So they very well may not be able to afford changing everything to handle 2k hp or don't want to actually lay down real numbers. Its not just about the engine you would have to remake the entire car and that may not be worth the hassle... to them.

  • @JDMEVOVIGSR

    @@Siiello Which car are you referring to? Tilton was built within 3 months with no prior opportunity to test before WTAC. What's the point of making 2000hp when the tyres are the limiting factor, as evidenced by the failure? Furthermore, the Global Services Evo doesn't need anywhere near 1200hp to be competitive.

  • @Siiello

    @Siiello

    @@JDMEVOVIGSR I am referring to the tilton evo 2.0 car that was covered on this channel in Jan 13. That car has 3 tons of down force and they claimed 1200 hp and the need for power to overcome some of the drag that produces. Like I said would need to change everything and so why would you imagine that did not also include a wheel tire package wide enough to offer sufficient grip? There is a setup that can be made where the tires are no longer the limiting factor I assure you, even if that means a radical dually setup front and rear to handle the downforce. The point of making 2k hp is to actually win instead of just being competitive.

    They aren't breaking blocks, so no need for the extra investment at this level. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. When the block becomes the weak point they'll tackle that problem. What's so hard to understand about this? Stupid normies have no idea what a development process is
