I don't disagree, but you need to understand your market first; whether it is national, regional or local market. Once you do that, then you can decide upon a niche and/or gimmick if you will, that will make your product stand out. Katie Carson is well known for the 'royal court' and her High Top soaps. You have The Soap Gal who is doing very well in private label manufacturing. And you have Dr Squatch aka Jack Haldrup who suffers from psoriasis and decided that men needed better options, but weren't the kind to shop Farmer's Markets and 'boutique' store. If helped hugely off course, that he had the bucks to hire a marketing firm.

Ahh yes I use Dr Squatch as an example of a great niche frequently. I understand where you are coming from. I like to recommend choosing a niche based on your skills, knowledge and expertise first and then a sales strategy needs to be formulated but the two will often have blurred lines I agree. 👍

I got into soap making because I wanted to make Goat Milk Soap and while I make a really good GMS…so does just about everyone else in 50 radius miles. LOL. You also have to love what you do and love what you make because 1 out of 5 businesses fail within the first year, 90% with the first three (I’m an accountant for a CPA firm). So I don’t make products that I wouldn’t use myself or don’t like…like Bath Bombs, Shampoo/Conditioner Bars, Candles. Every scent is one that I enjoy…except for Lavender; I’m allergic to Lavender, but it’s a scent that sells and it tools me six months to find one that I could tolerate.

There is a slight buzz in this video when you talk, and it is hard to listen to. As an American soap maker, interested in what you are teaching, I wanted to tell you that it may be prudent to have a microphone that balances your volume. I find myself adjusting the toggle a lot. I have time to listen to these type of youtubes at night when the family's all in bed and I try to keep the volume quite low and you are loud, soft, loud, soft. Feel free to delete this comment, I just wanted you to know.

Would you say using botanical is a niche ?

@@dermotsheedy8934 probably not to be honest unless you are growing it all yourself and can share your back story and how you use it in your products. That would give you the content to drive traffic to your website
