If your photos look different when printed, viewed online or on your computer? Here's why.

This is a detailed Monitor CALIBRATION for photography and video work that looks at many aspects of monitor calibration, what is is why we do it and of course some testing and results.
Ed Gregory looks at the Spyder 5 and runs a monitor calibration test to see what the improvements are (if any). The results are pretty amazing. Using this monitor calibration software I was able to perform a monitor color test to see how the onscreen images looked both before and after. I also attempted to do a photo edit on the uncalibrated monitors to see what I would get. To be honest the monitor calibration for printing and online use is amazing.
I think the Spyder 5 is a great monitor calibration tool and should pass any monitor color test.
After this I can definitely the the importance of how to calibrate monitor for photography and calibrate monitor for photo editing.
If you want to know how to calibrate your monitor then watch this video on this monitor color calibration software

It made a huge difference for me when I calibrated my monitor (as well as having a good graphics card that let me do it). Now that my monitor is set, I need to work on my printer to get the colors I want on my prints. Thanks for the great videos, Ed.

Hi Gregory congratulations on the video. I just bought a 4k IPS screen notebook and a Spyder X calibrator, so I have a question that haunts me. If the screen brightness is manually adjusted, how do I get the right amount of brightness when I edit the images? thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Dark (Calibrated) Side! Honestly, when you answered a question about this topic in one of your video's last year by saying that you never calibrated I was very surprised to hear that. It did not make me swear off ever watching your videos again, but it did honestly give me a slight pause about your advice. I have no idea why you haven't been doing this all along. You take great photographs.

Photos In Color I assumed that ‘relying’ on Apple prefab cal might be your reply... I’m glad you now realise that Apple are not the great God everyone thinks they are. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a happy Apple user but some have allowed them to ‘rule the damn world’ & think for us, resulting in increasing old knowledge fading away. I can only guess you were just fortunate enough not to have print issues all this uncalibrated time. Lucky guy! Anyhow, I’ve used ColorMunki for years & my monitors are def not hi-end, yet, results thru workflow are fine. Maybe try that (if they still make it? 😄) Cheers ✌️

No it doesn’t give you any numbers. O builds a preset in you computers profiles so I think it’s a lot more complex than just changing the brightness was and temperature. It goes deeper. However you can just use the same device on all you monitors. It see all the external monitors and remembers them so tunes them perfectly. Or you use it on multiple computers. Perfect huh.

Like this video. I had a Spyder II previously. My biggest problem has been the brightness of my iMac. Images look fabulous but the biggest problem for me, is leaving the finished image prefect for printing. Even knowing the printer profile of a pretty decent printer service locally, I continue to have the problem of ascertaining perfect exposure, as seen on a bright iMac, against what the printer produces. Any advice gratefully received!
