I’m sure you have heard of the following micros, but not sure if you have handled them. I find that both Wise and Traska offer great value with equally good quality. Just in case you wanted to check out something new. Traska Freediver and Wise Adamascus diver specifically are pieces I really enjoy. I also took a flyer on the Arken Alterum several months back and am awaiting its arrival. I will follow up with you and let you know my thoughts if you are interested? The analogy here is what makes a great cover song? 1/ It emulates the feeling and essence that make the original great but 2/ reinterprets it, bringing something new and original. For a watch, if the “cover” is also more affordable, obtainable and - importantly - less of a liability to wear anywhere…then that’s interesting!

Bought my MR01 during one of the early production runs with a long preorder wait, it is awesome. Feels a bit light and tin-y on wrist becuase of the size and plexi crystals but its so comfortable and the dial is insane.

I have a Baltic, also Christopher Ward, three Rolex’s and two speedy’s. You guys are correct.

I picked up a first edition mr01 salmon dial from my watch repair guy for $375 last year. It’s a beautiful piece and the only small complaint I have is the blue strap. I replaced it with a brown crocodile strap and it really elevated the look.

You guys need to talk about the Longines tuxedo chronograph. It's an absolutely gorgeous dial that you can get from a dealer for under $3k brand new. I own this one myself and I love wearing it. There aren't many KZread clips about it and Longines doesn't really promote it but I think it might be their best looking watch.

I think the joy of microbrand watches is that for someone who only has 1 high-end luxury watch purchase in their life, they can find out what they do and don't like, what suits and what doesn't at a fraction of the price than making all those mistakes with real money. Plus, some of them are great watches. Tried on a few (grail) luxury watches at the airport, and they're just so shiny it seems tacky compared to watches at a fraction of the price.

Like a good haircut, the shine fades in a few weeks. The cuff of your sweater will micro scratch all that high polish into a dull shine. It’s the reason I have no interest in Grand Seiko when the fancy polish is good for a day or two then it’s the same as Rolex, omega, any other good watch.

I love the fact you all got different tastes. So funny to hear you mock Christian for his love of dainty dress watches. I think that’s a cool thing to like. I am thinking of getting one myself actually. I love the Piaget Emparado at the moment. I can safely say that this channel is making me look at different watches all the time. Going to have a look at Baltic

Important! It's a modern watch, in the style of a retro. In everyway, style, feel, quality. So their competition is something old. When you understand this, then you can evaluate your Baltic. I have two Aquascaphes. My bronze took some getting used to, but after changing straps, is now a firm favourite. The titanium is great to use like a G Shock, when you go to a dodgy part of town in the evening. BTW, great content today. Everyone is working well together. I think the three hander is a good way forward.

For reference, I have many higher end pieces but I also have the HMS and MR01 silver (among other inexpensive micro brands). They are great inexpensive pieces that look great however, in my opinion the quality comparison to higher end pieces that I see across the internet is inappropriate. That’s not to say they are not a great value as they are but it’s important to manage expectations. The above said, I genuinely enjoy finding and collecting micro brands alongside more established manufactures.

FYI - this 'category' really was pioneered by Dan Henry, who launched in 2016 - a YEAR before Baltic and 5 years before Furlan Marri. ;)

Classic designs, executed beautifully, at great price points; Baltic kills it. I own an Aquascape Gmt and love it. And with their OnlyWatch submission, I can see Baltic stepping up their complications.

Baltic finishing is mediocre and they generally feel cheap. Design was very nice. I know because I had one and sold it

I agree. I was an early adopter and bought their gmt because I wanted to support the brand. But the movement felt cheap and fragile when adjusting the time or winding it. I ended up giving it to a budding watch enthusiast as a high school graduation gift and he loves it. That brings me more joy than owning it myself because I’ve gotten a bit fancier in my old age 😂

The Baltic GMT is a stunning piece...great value for money.

Baltic also made collabs with Revolution and A Collected Man which gave the recognition by the collecting community already some time ago

I was able to handle a Baltic MR01 at Windup Fair and found them difficult to wind...maybe its was overwound at that time. I wanted to buy, but got instead a Brewmatic and a Bulova Jetstar!

I think the baltic MR01 makes an interesting point for several chinese made Interlaken, Lobbini or Pierre Paulin dressy pieces. Suddenly you get the same realm watches (even with the same movement) with equal finishing for $100-300.

I agree, but what I find totally unacceptable is that the Chinese watches are desperately and completely falsely apeing swiss watches. The Lobbinis could be decent pieces if only they would simply own their heritage and be what they are.

That is how I felt with the prx while I save up for the royal oak. It is a placeholder and once I get the royal oak I will give the prx to my son.

I love Baltic. They look the part. I feel like their watches are "Moonswatches" for dress watch people; something that is charming, fun to wear, and at impulse buy level.

Great video guys, as usual. I do think you missed the mark on comparator microbrands. There is no discussion of Baltic that doesn’t include Lorier. You want a Quintessential dive watch, Lorier has one. You love classic GMTs, Lorier has one. You want a globally recognized dress watch, Lorier has one. You should really take a look at Lorier if you like Baltic and the price point. AND they are in your backyard! I might be mistaken, but I think “Lorier did it first”.

MR01 the perfect watch for a wedding…where there might be a fight. Personally, I’d have a Lobbini for a fraction of the price.

I used to own 8 watches under 1000$. I sold all of them when I downsized my collection EXCEPT the Salmon MR01...still a beauty 😍

Have the MR-01 in Salmon, and have enjoyed it despite some quibbles with the overall dial layout. The Bregeut numerals and small seconds are far too large and out of proportion and as a result, it looks crowded and not as elegant, which is a shame. It's a great everyday piece.

You guys need a bigger table. It’s a bit small where you can see everyone’s ugly shoes and a round table really makes whoever’s in the middle look small.

I had a bicompax Baltic I bought in 2019, then I sold it a few years later. The pin snapped off completely hen I pulled the crown out to set the time.

How reliable are the watches? How about aftersales?

In regard to Chris’ Ward’s 2023 Moonphase… There is an obscure micro-brand (with a Swiss designer and maybe some backing - I don’t remember) producing in China - Agelocer - with a very similar moon-phase watch, with shiny big moon and a blue aventurine dial. They launched the watch in 2021!They even made a second or even a third variation since then. And many other watches. Very interesting dials and some quirky movements, some heavily modified if not made up from scratch. Worth a look, at least for gossip factor :))

I picked up my Bluesy from the AD over the weekend. I wore my Baltic MR01 salmon dial to go. I got say at the bar in the AD whilst I waited and honestly all the other customers collecting their watches were so interested in my watch and wanted to know about it. Baltic just seems to be a brand real watch people love. They were all wearing daytonas etc but the Baltic was the point of focus for everyone

Which AD do you use? Are you in the U.K. too’ Mine in the U.K. has just been refitted and has a very nice bar, but did not see anyone at it. They just brought my beer to the collection room. The concept of multiple people at the bar seems wild….. and ‘all’ wearing Daytonas ‘etc,’!!! Sounds fantastic(al) 🦄

I love Baltic I’m getting the aquascaphe next but the next big micro brand kinda an independent actual the brand wise is punching up with furry they are similar prices to Baltic but they seem slightly better price and the steels the use are 904L and Damascus steel…

The watch I am wearing and my favourite watch is my 42mm Tudor Pelagos .

Maybe a little on the nose but, it’s only Baltic’s dress watches that feel specifically like Patek. They have more sports models than dress in their lineup and I’d argue their sports lineup occupy a bigger space in the general collector sphere

Ok so… If I have an AP skeleton…. In bi metal. And I’m wearing a shirt & tie…. Is that ok? (Cos I think it looks the nuts!) Or what if I’m wearing a black sweater. In between dress and sport… and I be wearing an ap skeleton but now it’s a ceramic. (Other than not bumping into anything) am I wearing a dress or a sports watch? I had the Aquascaphe in bronze. Very attractive and fun piece, but the lume was woefully bad. Most micro brands really excel at luminescent material. I was so disappointed I had to sell it. It was nearly the perfect watch.

Part of the thing with a potential shift to dress watches is that they come with outfits that a lot of people seem to be opposed to on a deepset and (I have always argued) unintentionally self-destructive level. I love dress watches, and I love the outfits they come with. But the resistance to these - especially among Americans - is often brutal. Food for thought, no more, no less.

I owned that watch (MR01) and it was the cheapest feeling watch I’ve ever owned. It looked good from like 3+ feet away, but close up it’s so trash. Even people who know nothing about watches can tell it’s shit quality. My mom’s first impression was that it feels cheap, and she thinks my dad’s citizen watches are the nicest watches on earth lol. Owned this watch for a week and sold it, it was the most disappointing purchase ever. It took me actual time to determine if the case was plastic or not… that’s how bad it was. I was literally afraid to wind it because the hands were so flimsy feeling. It would like rock backwards to the previous second if you stopped in the middle of a wind and would often get stuck. I actually can’t believe they’re presenting it in this light. How anyone could hold this watch and still praise it is beyond me. I felt ripped off

I was expecting this to be a G Shock video. I daily a Baltic Aquascahphe GMT blue/green. The Aquascaphe GMT uses a Soprod C125 Swiss movement. I abuse the crap out of it and the only visible scratches are on the bracelet clasp.

I have the same one and completely agree. I wear it everywhere and no scratches except the clasp.

I respectfully disagree with Christian on “ everyone must one 1 sports watch or 1 dress watch”. Not everyone cares about watches like we watch enthusiasts do. Also, this hobby is expensive so someone who doesn’t care about it isn’t going to buy multiple watches. If anything, everyone should own one dress/ casual watch whether that’s an Omega Aquaterra38/41, Rolex OP or Datejust , or even some options from Longines like the Spirit 37/40 or new Conquest. You can put any of these watches on straps and dress them up or keep them on their bracelets and wear them more casually.

All these watches people say you need or your collection isn’t complete ( Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, Rolex Explorer, Casio GSchock ) is just not accurate. None of those watches are bad watches, but they’re not for everyone. I’m not into the Explorer at all and I tried liking GSchocks multiple times and just couldn’t get into them. I’m actually more afraid admitting I don’t like GSchocks more than admitting I don’t like the Rolex Explorer 🤣🤣🤣

It’s a watch for someone who has nothing to prove. - No, this comment was not sponsored by Timex. I have vintage Omega and other smaller vintage watches as I found the big ones did not work for me - for example the Heuer Monaco. While a really nice watch as an object, it was just too heavy for me.

Lorier matters

We had a Baltic mr01 come into the shop, and it looked fantastic! But when I picked it up the metal felt too light. If you’ve ever held a Michael Kors or a Fossil quartz it felt similar to that.

Had the same feeling when I saw it at the windup fair in nyc. They looked tremendous but the BOR bracelet felt for lack of a better word, cheap. Also feel the same way about Lorier bracelets, which is a shame because I love the designs both those brands offer.

I should’ve clarified, I love the way the 33mm Nomos wear, very light but the weight is eveningly distributed. It’s hard to describe the feeling of the Baltic unless you’ve held one.

I’ve had an MR01 and played with the watches in their London showroom a couple of times. I find them a little meh. Just another microbrand. A CW Bel canto is the only watch from this space which really blows my mind.

It’s interesting that we look at someone with a gmt collection who never travels differently than a dive watch collector who doesn’t dive. Maybe because of the risk/fear. Maybe it’s the larger barrier to entry. But you can travel without a gmt, you can’t dive without a dive watch.

Who doesn’t travel? Agree with you though (hence mentioning pilots watches) 😉 Chronographs are not needed to time anything, something is needed to be timed for chronographs. It’s just jealousy. It’s description of a style of watch, not a definition of use. Overweight people wearing smart/fitness watches is the best example of this. What are people with tourbillon’s meant to do? Walk around with their watch hand permanently in one position in relation to the earth’s magnetic field all day long? 😂

Don'r get me wrong here, but I bought the MR01 in gold the day it was released and I had to send it back, the cristal made noise just by swiping over to clean it because it's too thin and the micro rotor was so loud that my wife could hear it across the room. She even asked, did you really paid 600 euros for that watch? Horrible experience, very nice watch, but the quality is still miles away from the cheapest seiko. cheers, LM

Ive owned the MR01 for a year ish now,, great watch except for... the movement. Handwinding feels crap, rotor winding feels crap, time setting feels crap, keeps reasonable time tho

Baltics are beautiful in design but feel cheap due to the movements. I’ve sold every one I’ve purchased.
