It was the watch that convinced me that I should start giving 36mm and 38mm watches a chance, even if I'm usually shopping around 40-42. I love it. I was on the 38mm hype train for years then out of nowhere I bought a Panerai 233 with the 1950 44mm case and it completely re-wired my brain on watch size. Now I go into boutiques and so many more watches are 'doable'. Even my 42mm Panerai looks small. I know you were not considering micro brands but I think one of the best examples of not only any size but also a variety of materials all on the same model of watch is the Helson Shark Diver; 38, 40, 42, 45 steel, brass, bronze, titanium and for a while they had a carbon case.

I might be subjective as I am a Nomos’ owner myself and I really love it (blue gold 35 mil), but Nomos is the most underrated brand, as it does on the territory $2-5K of tinkering with off-the shelf ETAs/Celitas, what other brands used to do in $5K+ segment - all-around in-house (~95%) with the own swing system, top-tier accuracy (mine is -2/+0), finishing quality. In this particular case, even if someone doesn’t like how the 33 mil sounds in the context, why don’t we assemble the line of 35, 38.5 and 41 mil watches from Nomos. I can’t express enough respect and appreciation to Nomos.

Even better, a gently used year old model is going to drop 25-40% of it's MSRP. They are absolutely worth the full retail asking price, but I'm looking to take advantage of the quick depreciation to get a blue Zurich world timer eventually.

  • @dim31rus

@@BM-si2ei yeah, that’s a kind of a game that Nomos admittedly is not good at. Not an investment tool. There is no explicit reasoning to me behind it, honestly, but I was never interested of doing it, so I just might not know what are those factors affecting investing reputation. On a flip side someone who doesn’t mind second-hand can simply take an advantage of this side of brand’s perception.

Great video. Taught me to study all elements of the dial, not just color. I love Bahaus but the wide dial was a turn off. The same went for the tooth edges of some bezels. It kills me to say the Rolex explorer was among the best. I realize this wasn’t the video’s purpose but your focus on the face taught so much. Thanks

Good video! I'd say Nomos would be ineligible by the rules that Teddy laid down, or include Tissot PRX since they do share the same look. Christopher Ward is killing it!

I really like the Oris Big Crown, I just wish the dial was a little less... flat? There's just something missing imo, maybe even just some applied indecies or logo. A bit more depth would do them wonders, I think.

I totally agree on your take on the Nomos watches. I tried the Orion once and it has ridiculously long lugs and hence wears much bigger than its case diameter would indicate. I could not really connect to that, even though it didn't look too bad on my wrist. It is a good watch, no doubt and it has a great movement and the price seems to be fair for what you get. It just was... not for me

I have a 35 and 38 mm Nomos Tangente in different colors. The lack of bezel means the watch face is almost all dial and that makes them look bigger than almost any watch out there of the same size. This effect is magnified with the white opaline dials. I'd say the 35 mm ones wear like a modern dress watch and the 38 mm wear like a (dressy) sports watch

Thank you TEDDY . I always learn a lot with you . The watches with different case size open a large space of opportunity . Shame on me, i discover with you that the NAVITIMER is available in 3 different casing. 40 years ago i have discover the NAVITIMER but it seems that in my town the dealer had only oerder the 46 mm casing . I had tested it on my wrist and it was by far too large. I try to sold my house, perhaps i will be able to buy or my JLC reverso ????

I have a larger wrist - 8" and I have found that the smaller watches that look best on my wrist are watches that have low case to strap ratios. The wider the strap is related to the case, the more I feel like small watches work for me.

After I found 38mm (on my Seiko baby alpinist), I can no longer wear my larger watches that I was happy with for years. They seem huge now. I have subsequently bought two SRPK models (teal and cream) both reinforcing that 38mm is perfect on my 6 1/2 inch wrist. Wish I discovered this earlier, would have saved some bucks.

I have two Nomos Tangentes of different sizes (and colors). The long lugs and lack of bezel on the Tangente, Orion, and Ludwig make the watches look considerably larger than sports watches and even most dress watches. The effect is amplified with the white opaline dials. The 35 mm watches wear like a modern dress watch while the 38 mm watches wear like a sports watch.

Size preference depends on the type of watch for me. For time only or time and date watches, I actually prefer watches in the 36-38mm range. Even though 36mm isn't a contemporary size, and probably never will be again, I have no regrets about buying my Datejust in 36mm. It wears well on my 6.12" wrist.

  • @drkesrf

While I respect the omega aqua terra and i know its generally beloved, its entirely too thick for a time and date watch. 13 is ridiculous. Needs to be around 11 for what it is and it would be excellent

Wish some of the dress watch options would go up to say 43. With a 9” wrist 41s are about as small as I can go and even divers or chronos look small. It’s a tough segment and would be a great video as very few exist.
