Why Men are So Terrified When Getting Divorced Seldom spoken is how men are gripped by fear during their divorce and that's because you can expect your life to change after divorce rather dramatically.. We're scared. Simply put, divorce scares us but we don't use the word scared, instead we use other words like "stonewall" when in reality we mean we're so scared we don't bother to take control of our life.
Divorce scares the hell out of us for many reasons. First, we don't know our future, second, we don't know our past and third, we don't understand our present. We're all confused and we want answers to questions we don't really know if we want the answers to but we have to know them.
When we speak of divorce, we're in an uber anxious state and just like there are 5 stages of grief, there are also 5 stages of fear: "freeze alert" "flight" "fight" "freeze fright" "collapse". It's during the Freeze fright phase where the person begins to develop PTSD because there is PTSD after divorce, you've been in something traumatic for years and those habits of fear you carried are real and are not going to leave unless you begin taking control.
The scariest part of divorce is the freedom or the the lack of structure you're now going to have and everything from there can go down because you just lost half your team and now, you're a one manned army but the worst part of your army is that your other teammate your other soldier, they'd rather fight alone than along you and that's got to sting.
You have to get ahead of your problem, you have to know your reality, you have to be prepared even for your worst case scenario. You have to document even your worst case scenario.
