Thank you so much for this video. You are the first person I have found who really goes into the specifics of magnesium. I am going to watch your night sweats video now. I suspect that my insulin is messy and I wake up at about 3 - 4 almost every night. The small of my back, the back of my neck, and sometimes my arms are very hot and sweaty. I turn over and throw off the covers, cool off, and then go back to sleep. Sometimes this happens several times but usually only around 4. It's rare that I sleep through the night. I literally celebrate when I do!

I am 63, suffer from anxiety, insomnia, heart palpitations (due to sleep deprivation) and constipation due to digestive issues. I take 300 mg of Magnesium Glycinate/citrate just before bedtime and this aids sleep and the other afore-mentioned issues. I have being doing this 4 months now. I take it at 10 pm just before sleep and my night is restful and I feel invigorated next morning . I haver been monitoring how I am feeling every day and I accept what you say about adjusting the times according to which state seems to be becoming biased. Right @Eddie Lopez , that is the whole point of this video. Magnesium for sleep is popular because it helps a lot of people sleep. People who are dealing with either low mineral levels or an anabolic imbalance like I talk about in this video. But if you continue to do that, you have the ability to push your body out of it's natural circadian rhythm. You really want to look at your body chemistry and know where you are so you can work with your body instead of against it. Not to mention, if you need magnesium to sleep, the body is dealing with problems that are keeping it from working optimally. You can learn how to do that in our free digestion course here: kickitnaturally.com/course Let us know how it goes.

Nothing funny about it, you are obviously an individual that has a magnesium deficiency from your diet and it is the right solution for you, as he mentions in the video. Glad you found it works for you. I have high end of normal levels of magnesium from my blood panel, as well as a catabolic imbalance from long hours running a small business and fairly intense strength training 5 days a week, and taking magnesium right before bed absolutely ravages my sleep and makes my insomnia noticeably worse, it's terrible. His video explains all this, magnesium can be good or bad based on individual biology/lifestyle/diet.

Here is an AI breakdown of the content of this video: the concept of anabolism in relation to sleep and magnesium. Anabolism refers to the phase in which the body is primarily focused on repair, rebuilding, and rest. During sleep, the body enters an anabolic state, where it performs essential functions like tissue repair, cell regeneration, and hormone production. The text suggests that some individuals may experience an imbalance in their anabolic state, leaning too far towards an anabolic state or being overly catabolic (the phase focused on energy production and tissue breakdown). This imbalance can lead to sleep problems. In the case of individuals with an anabolic imbalance, the text explains that magnesium supplementation may help by not only elevating mineral levels but also by assisting in shifting the body out of an excessively anabolic state. This shift can help regulate insulin processing and prevent the sudden drop of mineral and glucose levels during sleep, which might trigger the body to wake up. Conversely, individuals who are already overly catabolic (in an awake phase) might experience difficulties sleeping if they take magnesium, as magnesium is considered a pro-catabolic mineral. In this case, magnesium supplementation could further enhance the catabolic state and disrupt sleep. Overall, the text emphasizes the importance of understanding one's unique physiology and balancing the body's circadian rhythm. It suggests considering individual imbalances, monitoring the effects of magnesium supplementation, and adjusting the timing and dosage accordingly.

What part of his advice? Not taking it before bed? I went from taking 375mg + in the last half of the day to 250mg before lunch and slept through the night better than I ever have (sleep tracking on my watch). Intuitively I feel like a lot of sleep issues have to do with hypotension (low blood pressure) more than anything else, but reducing and moving magnesium to the 1st half of the day where cortisol and catabolic state is usually higher, definitely seems to be helping get back to a normal circadian rhythm.

That works the best for me, and I've been getting about 5.5 hours at a stretch. If I get up and drink a cup of weak coffee, I can drift off for a few more hours. Not sure why coffee helps me sleep? I've settled on being happy with this routine.

Blood tests can be very misleading because blood is a compensatory fluid. That means the body will beg barrow and steal from other places to keep the blood in line. If I take it too late, it makes me groggy the next morning. I'm trying to get in the habit of taking it about an hour before bedtime (just an arbitrary amount of time I decided on) rather than taking it immediately before bed. You may want to try that first. Despite his excellent information, I *cannot* take magnesium in the morning or with a meal - I *have* to take it at night because it has such a sedative effect on me.

Not long ago I began taking around the same amount of magnesium glycinate (250 mg) before bed...I have also been taking around the same dose of magnesium malate in the morning. So, 500mg, on top of the 200mg I already get from a 'mineral drops' supplement. I have decided to dial back the doses to about half that amount for now...for 'other reasons'. As far as sleep though...I was initially taking it just before bed, thinking it would 'make me sleepy'...but now I take it just after dinner (5 or 6 hours before I go to bed) and it doesn't seem to 'make me sleepy' any earlier, but I do sleep just as well. Perhaps taking it earlier in the evening will allow for more restful sleep and then you won't be as groggy in the morning.

Hi Sive, those spasms are often related to a need for more magnesium, but it can be a need for other minerals or a need to stop pulling all the minerals out of where they need to be. But moving your magnesium to the morning is a great first step. You would then want to check your body chemistry to see how much magnesium is appropriate for you, and also if other minerals in general appear to be low. I added low dose Lexapro medication for a quick solution to attacks by psychiatrist. Magnesium + Lexapro, taking in the morning, solved my insomnia about %50. I will check my body chemistry during this time and hopefully come off the medication after a while. Agree. I just spent all night tossing cause I took Mag Glycinate with dinner. Bad decision. Works better when I take it with breakfast.

You did not bring up the fact that you need proper proportions of calcium relative to magnesium intake for bone health. With out that balance you can cause major damage to bones and teeth.

If the body is depleted and u need it, and take it in a balanced fashion, how can appropriate nutrition be harmful, unless its a rare reaction? I mean back in the day when soil and water were naturally abundant in magnesium, were people mysteriously being hurt by it?

It could be, but other things can cause this too. Your best bet could be to go through our totally free digestion course because that will walk you through running simple self-tests you can run at home to get an idea of what imbalances can be creating trouble, and what steps would help you correct them. @@climax1233 Why would taking magnesium worsen sleep apnea? A systematic review and meta-analysis concluded: "Sleep deprivation appears to deplete Mg levels of OSA patients, making them at risk of Mg deficiency, which potentially increases systemic inflammation and the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases."

This is what many people believe. Just turns out not to be true in all circumstances. It's more about looking at the body chemistry. Even if a person is low, magnesium can still cause problems, and even if levels are okay, magnesium can still be beneficial in some circumstances.
