WHY LIVING IN THE AZORES FEELS DIFFERENT NOW

I have been living in the Azores for 8 years and living on the island now feels very different compared to when I first moved here. The Azores are undergoing a significant change since gaining much more popularity and I have exchanged my fast paced life for a much slower and more self sufficient life. It is interesting to reflect on how much our current living experience differs from our first impressions of a place and how much our perception is influenced by what we prioritize in life.
I hope you enjoy. Thank you for being here!

Hey everyone 🤍 Do you remember my very first video? I decided to recreate the very first scene from my very first video and the picture of my most popular video to celebrate almost 3 years of filmmaking. This hilltop is where it all started. Thank you for being on this journey with me. Sending you lots of love!

Liebe Rahel.

Hello Rahel, thank you so very much for making this video. What an absolutely gorgeous spot. I can see why many people would climb there. I am so glad that you were able to find a day and time when the place was deserted. Yay! Thank you also for answering my gazillion comments. I appreciate you taking the time to answer them. It's fun getting to know you and also getting to know myself better. I have to ask, when you were climbing up this hill, the camera followed you. I.e., someone was holding the camera and was filming you as you climbed up higher and higher. Was there someone with you doing the filming? Or is there a way of doing it all alone that I don't know about? Just curious. What happens to the cows, sheep and horses when the weather gets bad, when it rains and the cold wind blows? do the farmers leave their livestock out or do they move them to a dry, warmer place? thank you.

Hello Eve. Thank you for your continuous appreciation and for taking the time to comment on all of my videos. You are absolutely right, the scene you described was filmed by one of my Patrons who also lives here on Pico. About the animals: don't forget that animals are meant to live outside, so they are equipped to face the weather. They are looking for shelter like rocks and trees whenever it gets too much for them and they cuddle together if it is cold. They are outside all year around the only thing which happens is that the cows get moved to fields closer to the coast around November and back up into the highlands in April because in the highlands are very cold in Winter.

@@RahelStadler Hello Rahel, thank you for filling me in. I was concerned about the animals because I believe that these animals are not native to the islands, that they were brought over from Europe with more moderate climate. I am glad that they move the cows closer to the coast, away from the strong, cold winds. I think that only sheep are equipped to live in such crazy weather, but the problem with the sheep is that when they get wet, all that water stays in their thick coat. Yikes!

A beautiful remembrance Rahel. And a valuable lesson on the subject of acceptance. Only when we learn to accept our true selves can we be fulfilled. Trying to fit in elsewhere beforehand is like forcing a piece into a puzzle that doesn’t fit. I love the spontaneous ending “it’s moving too!” 😂

I had a friend who was born and raised on Sao Jorge. He passed away some twenty years ago now but I still think of him from time to time. The folks on Sao Jorge actually looked down on those from Pico on account of they were of Flemish ancestry, not Portuguese. Maybe that's why the people on Pico are so insular. They got attitude from neighboring islanders.

@RahelStadler yeah while watching this latest video you made i was thinking. When you went barefoot and crouched down i can't do that here because there are so many insects and ants. If you stand still the ants begin climbing up you. Millions of them everywhere, among others.. But not so at the beach. Also. The vistas you show can't easily be seen here. The land and mountains have a lot of foliage and trees and jungle. With few clearings. I have not seen majy grass fields like there. The temperature is really hot here like hot summer days every day of the year. Must have A/C here to get away from the heat. There are electrical grid power outages here frequently. Right now we are on generator power which works good Almost all food here has an asian taint. I really wanted to come retire there in the Azores. But my wife is from here so that wouldnt be fair to her. And we wanted our 10 year old son to see her land and country. You are one of the vloggers i subscribed to there a few years ago when we were still in the United States. The others provide the economic aspect. You, the spiritual. :) It's 11am here. Thank you for giving me such a detailed glimpse into your living circumstances. I appreciate it! I guess every place has it's downsides, unfortunately. I'm glad that I don't get constantly bothered by ants and insects while being out and about that certainly would make my experience a little less peaceful but I wish we would have a bit more trees here on the island, I long for the unique charm of jungles or dense forests. I understand your struggle with the constant heat though, it's a different kind of challenge if it doesn't cool down. What is your favorite part about the Philippines? I feel very honored that you are subscribed because of the spiritual aspect of my videos. I love that! Best wishes to you and your family.
