Everytime she gets competition she gets pissy and pulls some petty shit. I've said it time and time again that the only reason why Nicki was able to reign for as long as she did was because she didn't have no damn competition. Who tf was there to compete with her? She had a free range monopoly on the "female rapper" lable. That as well as the fact that she sat on Wayne's lap throughout her career was why she was "at the top" for so long.

DMX hurled the same accusations at Jay. Hov used his position within the company to suppress rappers that might pose a threat to his album sales and chart position. I see it as a major conflict of interest for J to be a high powered executive at a label that has MC's on their roister that hover around the same lanes as Hov. Puffy did the same thing to his roster, plundering their hottest tracks to be used on his No Way Out Album. Hella sus in my book. But then again, Budden is a total asshole so I don't feel bad for him when he got the shaft.

I think Ludacris was the only label vet being promoted when Jay took over. Or at least he happened to have more success than others. It seemed like guys like Method Man and Redman were sidelined hard. Redman ended up doing his own videos and Mef didn't even have one video. DMX ended up leaving for Columbia and a lot of vets left later on. Could have been bad timing or MCs stopped being marketable at that time but the timing is interesting. Rappers running labels practically always fails. Master P may be the rare exception since he promoted everyone but that label crashed and burned in the end.

People REALLY need to check Joe’s Flow. Joe just was with the wrong label who didn’t respect him or his music. (Why do labels insist on changing artists or try to put them in a box? Let creatives be who they are.) On another label, he would have been considered a BEAST top 10 MC. I think his name also hurt him. His name just sounds lame & not taken seriously as a ‘rap name’. Love Joe as a rapper and a person.

6:57 I don't think Jay sabotaged Joe's career. See Joe Budden (the album) was NOT a "hit" or a success. It sold 95k first week back in 03, and barely went Gold (500k total sales). Remember this was the time when everybody was going platinum, especially in Def Jam: Jay-Z, DMX, Ja Rule, Method Man, Fabolous, N.O.R.E. Cam'Ron etc, etc, etc. Also good to remember this was the year 50 Cent's GRODT sold around 900k in his first week... compare that to Joe Budden's 95k and you still think it was a hit? Joe Budden is the definition of a "one hit wonder". He had 1 record that indeed was EVERYWHERE, but failed to follow it up with another hit record and his album eventually flopped. So Def Jam moved on to the next, and eventually dropped him. Sad, but it's business. Also Def Jam didn't force him to fit any role. That is bs he's always said to avoid taking accountability. Joe has tried making party/radio friendly music even after Def Jam, but failed to do so, look at Touch & Go in Halfway House or The Future in Padded Room. He tried getting clout by beefing with Jay-Z, Royce da 5'9", Lloyd Banks, The Game, Wu-Tang and others. He joined a rap group, even signed to Eminem and rode his penis for a long while before he decided to spit in face for clout, but even all that didn't get him any commercial success with his music. Don't get me wrong Joe Budden was lyrical and had bars, but he was never a "commercial success" and Jay-Z had nothing to do with that, maybe the Illuminati because that dude tried every trick in the book and it just never worked for him. Mood Muzik 2 is still one of my favorite mixtapes of all time.
