It didn't fail. It was overwhelmed by volume of rockets launched. There is a difference between the two. It would have been far worse for Israel if they didn't have this defense system.

Yeah, about the Hamas missiles. They were built out of water pipes that were supplied to them to build water infrastructure. So when they whine about not having water infrastructure it's hard for anyone to care. They could've used it for its intended purpose instead of building weapons.

Ever seen the movie battleship where the aliens fire an overwhelming amount of bombs to a battleship to the point where the phalanx gun or ( close in weapons system) couldnt intercept all the bombs. Doesn't matter how effective they think the system is, it can be overwhelmed. It makes you wonder how many ICBM's would be intercepted if 20 of them were fired. If even one of them landed, it would be devastating.

thats correct number of rockets first gets fired in a first launch and immidiately second goes so that interceptors wont be active in such short time. and also number of rockets were way more than iron dome missiles.

Israel's biggest enemy is Iran which posses one of the biggest and diverse missile program in middle-east. long range ballistic missile is extremely hard of intercept in actual battlefield regales of these weapon company claims. usa's patriot missile defence system failed badly in saudi when houtis attacked with scud missile in 2018...Iran also developed hypersonic missile this years meaning every one of them will hit the target as no air Défense system can stop hypersonic missiles. so israel getting trolled by hamas was a humiliating for them as these are just homemade rockets and not actual advanced ballistic missiles.

I’m a little bit tired of hearing about how the Iron dome has been failing when no one has ever set foot on the ground and dealt with any of these systems from an actual troop perspectives. You want an explanation on how it operates? How about we ask the people that use it on a daily basis. We always go back to the people that theorize “This is what it should do” but never to the people that are actually working with the system does. This isn’t Pokémon and the system was never designed to “catch them all”.

economic wise for a war of attrition it's dog shit, iron dome is $50K a missile while Hamas rocket is $300. The math is not on their side, you're going to get oversaturated no matter what. Like for 1 iron dome missile they can buy 166 Hamas rockets, their missile with it's 90% (amazing metric inddeed) hit 1 of Hamas 166 rockets, while the remaining 165 rockets still hit. only thing they have going is that they are rich and that US taxpayer money is also subsidize each iron dome missiles.

iron dome was designed for what was expected from mall forces, no expecting such numbers of rockets to be fired by the enemy.. Because what we are seeing is Hamas sending an estimated 50 rockets per estimated hamas member.. which is unprecedented for any underground military and leads to all allies to wonder how Hamas could first amass that many, even given the cheap costs of the rockets used, and the amount of related technology that would be needed to send off so many rockets. As even in Korea and Vietnam, where the types of rockets used by Hamas are based from, by the time six rockets would normally have been fired by one group, the US military would have been locating the base for a response.. so how did Hamas, which is supposed to be such a small group, manage to not only shoot so many missiles but do so while also sending in a ground attack that was larger and more organized than any that would have been expected? Given that Hamas is not well trained or large in size. This speaks to other sources within the region supplying training and materials. Could it be that other governments are also against the two state solution as proposed by America and starting to be agreed to by Saudi? Or could it be that some Israeli groups helped create this situation and delay knowledge of it so that the Two State solution is not an option, because they themselves do not wish to step down from war to peace.

For example : 10 Top Gun pilot with 10 unit F22 Raptor against 100 top gun pilot with 100 MIG , having a massive air dogfight. Who will win in the air battle ? War history proven the massive quantity armies always Won during battle against the less quantity army in single strikes per ATTACK. THE MISSION IS TO CONQUER WITHOUT MERCY AS LONG THE OPPONENT total lost in the war. If a fight with small quantity army and artillery, it will be a fight of war with lots of LOSSES at both parties and took more longer period of fighting.

I think the max range on a C-RAM system is like 3.4 miles (vs 45 miles) so you'll need waaaaaay more to effectively cover the same area. So it's probably more expensive to purchase and maintain all of those systems, compared to the 10 iron dome missile batteries.

In Iron Dome Version 2.0 or 3.0, the developers should program it so after the enemy rocket is intercepted.... The Iron Dome THEN triangulates where the enemy rocket was fired from and automatically starts an artillery barrage on those specific coordinates.

If Israel fires at those locations automatically, the world will immediately blame it for war crimes. 2. The Iron Dome is definitely impressive and outstanding. BUT it would be EVEN more impressive if it could NOT only passively neutralised incoming rockets but fire a secondary rocket from above using calculated trajectory to source of launch thus making it a passive aggressive weapon shield. 👍🏻 Once launch pads are destroyed by secondary Iron dome rockets, the worries of “being Overwhelmed” by countless adversarial rockets fired at the same time will then be made redundant.

  • @mnomadvfx

From above? Using what? A permanently airborne and easily targeted platform from the ground? Iron Dome being on the ground makes it hard to target and take out with basic machine guns. The moment you stick something in the air you run the risk of artillery and bullets bringing it down. The tech to do so already existed in WW2 you know - the science and engineering is well established for anyone to replicate at this point. In fact Iron Dome itself is just a much faster, trajectory correcting evolution on that very engineering.

So with that and the 5% actual success rate value, that would mean 85% of rockets launched against Israel are thrown off course and hit a random location. If that's the case, about 85% of the damage to civilian infrastructure in Israel caused by rocket attacks can be said to be at least partially responsible to the iron dome's weaknesses, since those pieces of infrastructure would not be the intended target.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to develop such a system, if it was easy, such systems would be used by lots of countries world wide , the fact very few countries have systems to intercept missiles/rockets shows its not easy. for incoming ICBM, you have much more time to predict/calculate the trajectory of the incoming missile, but for rockets the time between the launch and the impact is far shorter , and when it is launched in mass, the success rate of interception is much harder, still even if the interception is 20% or so, to shoot down 20 out of 100 rockets incoming, its considered a success i feel, 1 less rocket to land is already a success. intercepting rocket is very expensive, as the enemy can launch lots of dummies or cheap rockets, ultimately the best way is to stop the rockets from launching in the first place. in future, you would probably need Loitering drones which can be directed to immediately counter-attack the firing site, when a rocket launch is detected, before the enemy can move away.

Does that sound like a smart system to you? You've effectively handed the enemy a way to both make your system, and by extension anyone using said system, look foolish as well as, more importantly, bankrupt you. If that rocket injured a civilian, do you know how many millions of $ are going to be spent to rehabilitate him and to compensate him? and that's just one person. do you know know how much money is being spent to repair to smallest of things? Do you understand that 90% of anything on the ground in a populated area in Israel, costs more than 75,000$ (the cost is 50,000$ + all the integrated costs such as transport, training, maintenance, updates, etc is 75,000$, not 200,000$). An average private vehicle in Israel cost between 50,000-75,000$ so it's enough that one private vehicle will be hit and the cost of the missile would have been worth it. and that's not a truck which is a lot more expansive. do you know how much money does Israel pay to compensate businesses that have been hit? we are talking about millions of $ - and that's for a small business. how much money do you think it costs to repair a power station? or maybe a chemical plant? or maybe a mall? how much would the state of Israel need to pay to compensate the business owners? Do you have an idea of how many million of $ Israel is about to pay to fix the 3 hits a hospital has sustained? or the school in eilat that was struck (thank god without anyone being in the building when it happened). And also very importantly the system takes political pressure to respond immediately off from the government, and gives the state time to react and "freedom of movement" in decision making, before the Iron dome was in operation, Every time Israel was attacked, the government was pushed to react almost immediately. Now it has a lot more time for the Israeli war cabinet to meet, and decide on the course of action. Simple math tell the exact opposite of what you wrote, so, so much for "as a defense contractor" you and those that call it the "Iron Noose" are pretty dumb... But keep on yelling sugar and fertilizer and 800$, while you fail to see how 75,000$ is nothing compared to first and foremost the lives it saves, 2nd to the money it saves to the Israeli government and 3rd the time it gives the Israeli government for decision making.

The solution was to take a step back and put gun-based guided point-defense systems such as CIWS/C-RAM and Flakpanzer Gepard back on the front line.

(...even the much hyped iron Dome technology defense apparatus simply yielded to Hamas' consistent rocket power ..)

Since the professor who questioned the Iron Dome's effectiveness is incapable of replying to an email, I think we can discount his views as being an outlier

Mobil rocket vehicles with a center computer/brain vehicle?? This seems like something you would have seen like 30-40 years ago.

Psalm 83: O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God. 2 See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. 3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. 4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.” 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you- 6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, 7 Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. 8 Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants.[b] 9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, 10 who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.” 13 Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. 14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, 15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. 16 Cover their faces with shame, Lord, so that they will seek your name. 17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. 18 Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

The system was doomed to fail from the start. It is surprising they did not try to lower the cost of manufacturing. Using 50,000 USD to counter 800 USD is a CRITICALLY MAJOR flaw in the system. It is easily broken and can easily be overwhelmed financially or even geostratigically.

I wonder the same thing. And what if they’re stricken from multiple angles and what if it’s a more powerful rocket coming can it stop it too. One should not rest with this iron dome for true safety.
