WHY is VESZPRÉM the city of QUEENS? || EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2023

Veszprém is one of Hungary's oldest cities and it is known as the city of Queens. I wanted to know why so I took a little trip there last sunday to find out. Along the way I met some friendly locals, had a gander down at the Christmas market and was thoroughly impressed by the beautiful architecture. I didn't realize that Veszprém was going to be the European capital of culture in 2023. Because of this honor, much of the castle district was roped off due to the preparations for the January kick-off event. However, there was still plenty to do and see and as always we were able to make our own fun. So come join me in Veszprém and learn why they call it the city of queens after all. And thank you to all the Veszprémi emberek who I met for making me feel so welcome in your lovely Hungarian city right on the shores of Lake Balaton. I will be back when the weather is warmer and we can delight by the fountains together.

Kedves Willie! Megkönnyeztem ezt a videót. Örülök, hogy ennyire tetszett neked az én szülővárosom, csodálatos hely. Kár, hogy a várban ekkora a felfordulás, de ha jövőre visszatérsz, igazi szépségében láthatod. Az idő sem volt jó, ennek ellenére láthatóan jól érezted magad. Állítom, itt élnek a legkedvesebb, barátságosabb emberek, néhánnyal találkoztál is és megbizonyosodhattál róla. Imádom!!! Tavasszal, nyáron el kell menni az állatkertbe is, tetszeni fog, teljesen más, mint a budapesti. És ami nem hátrány, közel van a Balaton! Szuper videó!!👍😘

Kedves star70! Nagyon örülök, hogy jól érzitek magatokat Veszprémben. Több évtizede élek Pesten, de ha elhagyom Fehérvárt, melegszik a lelkem, hogy megyek haza. Tényleg ilyen emberek nincsenek máshol. 🥰

@@star-wp1tk 7 éve Budapesten élek (kecskeméti vagyok amúgy), alá tudom támasztani, hoyg az elmúlt 2-3 évben (nyilván ebben a vírus és válság is benne van) gyakorlatilag egy putri lett a főváros, sajnos; pedig szerettem azért... Remélem, mihamrabb menni tudok majd innen.

Veszprém name comes from the polish Bez prim - in the time of Boleslav. Many times we gave queens to many countries, and the gossip was that the HU queen doesn't really love Boleslav, and she had a secret love. To avoid political issues, Boleslav has sent home the kid, and the HU queen, and received land where is the city built. Later on many other queens home was this city.
Well, that's where my wife and I were on our honeymoon :) at 3:49 you walks past the hotel where we spent some very pleasant days :D

Lol, my friend told me that he met you in Veszprém and he even went with you to a café called Tizen1. How small this country is! :D It's a shame I wasn't there Edit: Just checked the video and you indeed went to Tizen1 but with a different guy. Maybe it was on another occasion? :D Or were there others around you too who didn't want to be featured in the video?

Just so you know the name Veszprém are 2 words, "Vesz" means 'lost' and "prém" means 'fur'. Because there is a story that the queen lost her fur in this city and thats where the name came from. I dont know much about it eather but maybe its interesting for you. :)
