Friends, I welcome you back for another adventure. This time we are heading to Kőbánya aka the Stone Mine, aka one of the most notorious districts around. In fact, many people were saying I shouldn't go there. That it was dangerous. That I might get robbed. But honestly, I don't know what those people are talking about. I met so many different cool Kőbányai emberek on my journey around town. I met a working family in from Szabolcs for their stint and shared some special pair liquor with them down by the local comic book covered shop. I hung out with the 1956 commission in a secret club house down around the corner from Ödön Lechner's famed Szent László Templom. I chilled with some cool fucking dudes and chicks up by the top of the train station for sunset. I also crossed paths with the next big name on the Hungarian film block a fella by the name of Pista Molnár. I'd say over all I would rate Kőbánya an 11 out of 10. It's my kind of place. De őszintén szólva nem tudom, miről beszélnek ezek az emberek. Nagyon sokféle klassz Kőbányai Emberrel találkoztam városi utam során. Megismerkedtem egy szabolcsi dolgozó családdal, és megosztottam velük valami különleges páros italt a helyi képregényes boltban. Az 1956-os megbízással egy titkos klubházban lógtam le, Lechner Ödön híres Szent László Templomja sarkán. A pályaudvar tetején naplementére hűsöltem néhány jó kibaszott haverral és csajjal. A következő nagy névvel is kereszteztem az utamat a magyar filmblokkon egy Molnár Pista nevű fickóval. Kőbányát mindenekelőtt 10-ből 11-re értékelném. Ez az én helyem. Gyere csatlakozz a mókához.

Ha mar itt tartunk, ha annyira zavaro ez, miert nem egy magyar videoit nezegetjuk? I think Ausztrál Tom is the most famous foreigner. He is also really funny and entertaining. I am glad we have these people.
Nem messze sétáltál el a kőbányai sörgyár mellett(Dreher sörgyár). Ott van Kőbánya felső állomás mellett. Szépen felújított műemléképületek. Beengedtek volna és megmutatták volna a sörfőzést és kóstolót is kaptál volna. Mikor főzik, egész Kőbányán kellemes maláta illat van. Amit Kőbánya címerében láttál, az a Csősztorony. Ha a Kőér utcán tovább sétáltál volna, akkor megtaláltad volna. Kőér utca 1. 1844-ben épült. Óhegyen van, ez pest egyik legmagasabb pontja és régen itt nagy szőlőbirtokok voltak, majd szeméttelep és a rekultiváció után egy parkot létesítettek rajta. Most Óhegy parknak hívják, de régen szovjet-magyar barátság park volt a neve(Hamár Bald and Bankrupt) a szobor meg a memento parkban van most. Ha a sörgyárba bementél volna, akkor megmutatták volna az óriási 33km hosszú pincerendszert. Az azóta kibányászott több millió köbméternyi könnyen faragható mészkőből épült fel Budapest épületeinek nagy része, többek között a Lánchíd, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia vagy az Országház épülete, a kövek után pedig üres terek maradtak .Ezért "Kőbánya" a kerület neve.A II. világháborúban ebben a pincerendszerben folyt a magyar repülőgépgyártás(azt hiszem Messerschmitt vadászrepűlőket gyártottak) . Még izgalmasabb az egykori gépház esete: a 44 méteres mélységbe lenyúló, ötszintes építményt a szivattyúzás abbamaradása után elöntötte a talajvíz. Az egykori lejárat téglalépcsői ma kristálytiszta vízbe futnak; a gépház romjainak különleges, víz által birtokba vett világát pedig búvárok segítségével tárják fel. Ami még érdekes, hogy minden augusztusban megrendezik az „Underworld kupa” bicikliversenyt . "Kőbányai pincerendszer" Ezt üsd be a wikipediába.

That old guy with mustache on the wall was Gergely Pongrátz, actually, his nickname was 'Bajusz'. He was on of the commanders in Corvin - köz in 1956. Students, workers, ordinary people fought against the Soviets. This man, who was only 24 that time, was among the older generation, the freedom fighters were mostly young boys, 'Pesti Srácok', kids of Pest. The tanks came on the Üllői street, turned right to the Nagykörút, one guy gave a sign, and an other one, sitting in the Corvin cinema ticket booth, pulled a rope, connected to the trigger of a cannon, which stood by the entry street of the rotond - shaped Corvin - köz. They destroyed the tank's caterpillar belt, then came the bottles of Molotov cocktails...one by one. Many Russians died there, and many kids too. This man, Gergely Pongrátz had (maybe still exists) a museum in Kiskunmajsa, I had a honor to met him twice.
Nagyon köszönöm ezt a videót. Nagyszüleim laktak itt, egészen 1956 szeptemberéig. A forradalomkor már Tatabányán éltek. De mindig visszavágytak. Nagyon jó látni hogy honnan is indult a családunk, merre jarhattak mikor fiatalok voltak. A templomok, a Kőbányai sörgyar az állomás. 😊

I actually live in the district you visited, at the end of the video you just walked past my home area. 5-10 years ago it was a far worse place than it is now, but I think Kőbánya is divided in many subregion, even 1 street to an other can decide whether it is safe or not. Would be glad to visit some hidden treasure in hungary with you. Maybe near budapest the lost city Bankháza? Or the hidden pub in Király street?

Do you know that there is a copy of the church of Lechner Ödön in the USA in South Norwalk? Anyway I'm a fan of your videos, really entertaining and instructive. :-) I think you know more of the hungarian history than 90% of the Hungarians. :-)

5:53 That was the house of the CEO of the Dreher beer factory. The factory owns the tunnel complex under Kőbánya, and they used it to make beer.There are guided tours into the tunnel complexes every once in a while, I think you should check it out.

Kihagytad a kőbányai barlangrendszert. Ott volt a kijárata a Csajkovszkij parkban a Dreher kastély mögött. Majd egyszer látogasd meg és vigyél pulóvert, mert hűvös lesz. Vannak csoportos látogatások. Búvárkodni is lehet.
"Kicsit pihen" LMAO That guy has literally died from spice or just really drunk. (called biofű in Hungarian). Yeah, thats a major problem in our country but I think in all of Europe. Come to Monor once, there is much to see here! From the wine village uphill to the historic city center. (It's a town really close to Budapest and if you want I can show you around :D)

I like your videos and it is great to meet a foreigner who is interested in real Budapest, not just the central areas. A lot of things can be learned from them. The only thing I don't like is your fascination with the sound of Hungarian words, when you start repeating them, singing them and playing with them, because believe me, this part is not so funny. Otherwise, you are very amusing, and I am gladly following your work.

The custom was not to clink beers for 150 years after the execution of the martyrs of Arad. This had already expired on the 6th of October, 1999. Haynau shouldn't determine our clinking habits forever. xD
