I honestly appreciate that people give things a second life. These people are people who appreciate the knowledge of a brands weakness and know how to fix it without ordering parts from overseas and waiting for them to turn up and have the fridge fixed by close of business? This is how the world needs to be working!

If we don't share and pass on this knowledge then soon we give that knowledge to the machine and no human process will give stuff something a second life? I also have a soft spot for derelict rat rods and steam punk and stuff like that? As an Aussie I believe the first popularization of steampunk was the movie Young Einstein?

У тётки есть холодильник выпуска 1956г. До сих пор работает!!! Сделан в СССР. Ни разу не ломался. Сейчас выглядит, как музейный экспонат. Единственное, что менял - уплотнитель на двери! Давно уже покупали более современные холодильники, но он их переживает, он бессмертный!

В СССР запас прочности шёл от того, что не было вариантов компрессоров тоесть будет подешевле, но хуже и наоборот поэтому и выпускали высокачественный, но один так дешевле. Так же материалов качественных было больше, чем некачественных. Ну и сети раньше были гораздо хуже, что накладывало свои запасы прочности на Эл цепи. Сейчас же сменился строй и производство предоставляет тысячи холодосов и др техники абсолютно разного качества и пародокс цена не всегда показатель. СССР мощный строй, но увы пережиток прошлого

Everything you did is perfect. The only error I noticed is that you took the pressure gauge to full scale and continued charging high pressure. That decalibrates the pressure gauge, be very careful!

looks like its just a junk gauge for checking pressure is there rather than the exact pressure which you would use for charging likely with a different gauge set

Reality is often an extension of circumstance. Do I have time to send that part to a shop? Have them diagnose the issue then repair it, then reinstall it, before my frozen goods perish? If that answer is no, I will ALWAYS have to go buy a new one. Regardless of how I feel about the matter. I just don't have time to do otherwise.

The real question is do i spend $2000 for a repaired compressor or spend $2000 on a new refrigerator. Of course, if i remove the compressor myself, send it to india, have this guy repair it, and ship it back then i could have a repaired compressor for a couple hundred dollars.

Did you ever feel like some guy in a fix-it shop in a tiny village, knows more about refrigerators than anyone you ever met back home?

In the USA the labor and travel charges to bring the compressor to the shop and repair it would be much more than installing a new one on location and much quicker

Very useful comment. I figured it was to reduce costs and make it harder to repair but there is a good reason for welding it. Who knew?

Loaded the lines and inside with carbon. No nitrogen, the oxygen will burn the copper and steel on the inside of case, when brazing and welding

Lines !? You mean the 2” ones ? 😂 It looks like India or somewhere alike, you honestly think they gonna load up that lil thing with a Nitrogen port just to avoid scale ? This customer will be lucky they get a vacuum pulled, which usually does the job anyway since these guys are not going by textbooks

Remember to put oil in the / inlets can be used for this.

Вот такая дуговая сварка просто сожгёт изоляцию обмотки движка внутри моторкомпрессора, потому как тут надо либо участками шов ложить, либо иметь что-то охлаждающее внутренний объём в горшке мотора. Мы ранее пробывали производить из двух моторкомпрессов собрали один и нужно было провести сварку шва, и в результате пришлось поновой разрезать, а там увидели, что изоляция обмоточного провода сгорела! Пришлось вводить шланг охлаждения углекислота нужна, чтоб горячий газ выходил, ну и сам горшок не перегревался !!!

Oil can be added after welding the lid, via the suction tube. Did not you know?

How long will that last considering it was brazed and welded without nitrogen flush?

@@meatballmagoo6134 evacuation won't take out the oxidized metal from the brazing process. That's why it's done while feeding nitrogen through the system, so the internals aren't left with solid debris to chew on.

That is 100% not in the United States, here the tech would just install a new compressor.

Вызываешь мастера он говорит надо менять компрессор это в лучшем случае. Заменил через 1.5 года надо менять холодильник, а компрессор ставил новый из коробки С ОТК. ОДНО СЛОВО БЕСТОЛОЧИ.

That is likely R-22 which is illegal in most countries as it depletes ozone layer.

Not so! It does not deplete ozone....too heavy. Patent ran out where any chemical company could make it. So original manufacturer got government to outlaw it so they could start production on different refrigerant. This year, R410a is no longer in production. It's all about money.....planned obsolescence. 😒

R22 isn't illegal anywhere. It's still used in AC and refrigeration. It's being phased out but it's still perfectly legal to buy and use.

Love how the gauge returns to 25 PSI after pressure is released. Pretty sure there is a handful of slag and carbon at the bottom of that compressor when he's done. Great job if it were a horseshoe.

В России не чинят компрессоры от холодильника. Мастер сразу предлагает либо покупай компрессор ценой как холодильник, либо выкидывай холодильник и покупай новый...

Примерно половина из них постон с утечкой ( проверяли каждый компрессор в ванне) . Как-то раз один и тот же компрессор возвращали на переварку три раза. После этого случая стали возить к аргонщику. И как рукой сняло. Дороже, зато гемора нет.

А так он будет ржаветь внутри. А второе, он ту трубку что меддю паял, опять мог распаять, перегревши электродом, или обмотку немного расплавить, что служить долго не будет.

Hermetically sealed compressor,, will last forever ! I never seen one repaired like this, but if it was common practice there would be millions of them still in service,,, 😁👍

You mean charge you for 8 hours labor to crack open a compressor and repair it when a new one costs $300? Or maybe you mean braze on a sealed system part without nitrogen to prevent scale, and weld using a stick welder instead of tig to prevent the ton of crap and slag that will now be in that compressor? That compressor probably lasted all of 10 minutes before it failed again.

I saw my neighbor do that exact same repair on his own unit and it was still running several years later when he got rid of it too get a whole new system because he needed a new furnace. Only took him an hour on the bench. It took him longer to remove it, reinstall it, vacuum it down and recharge the system than it did to repair. Lol About 4hrs total from power down to test. And it never cooled better! The trick is in the stick and an experienced welder! It's a Money saver for sure, that is if the compressor itself is good. No new compressor to buy.... Just 4 hrs labor to repair the unit from start to finish. Easy Piesy! Later!

Really wish we could still repair things in America like this. This compressor is automatically scrapped and replaced (or the whole fridge likely) rather than fixed. If I were to repair a compressor like this I would be called a HACK regardless of how skilled I was and how reliable the repairs were.

In Canada the labor and shop time would cost more than a replacement compressor.

I was worried about welding the unit up, how do you keep it, from getting hot enough to do damage? Just curious, I would attempt that.

When labor is 50 cents an hour, you can afford to fix disposable items.

The compressor is sealed because it never breaks down , the refrigerator plastic seals will rott before the compressor, i still have a functioning 1940s refrigerator keeping my beers cold .

Looks like a small version of my still! From one tube I get regular blood plasma, with another I get ether, and the last good corn liquor!

I have two 40 year old fridges OUTSIDE in the Louisiana murder weather. Still running like sewing machines. They just build crappy stuff with crap materials now. A+ for this guy tho.
