Very good examples! I just finished a Sunflower and really had a hard time with shadows and to make the petals look more vibrant. Going to give this exercise a try. Thank you for the demo.

My favourite is the one using the analogous colour. It looks the most convincing. This was an excellent tutorial on dealing with shading tricky yellow. Many thanks. May I request that you perhaps don’t use background music when you are speaking, I’m afraid I struggle a little to focus on the words. I have a neurological condition that causes this, but I always feel that when someone is explaining something important, their voice should be the focus. I love background music when watching someone simply paint though, as I find that relaxing. I hope I have not caused offence Susan? Many thanks and best wishes from Scotland. 🎨🖌👍🏻

Thanks for your suggestion about the music. I thought it might be a little distracting, but my son thought it was a good idea. Next time I think I’ll leave it out. I’m so glad you thought the video was helpful!

Nice video ❤ BTW, when I mix black with yellow I get a really nice green. (Olive-ish) lemon yellow always gives nice results but any yellow will work depending on the set.

I get the same when I mix yellow with payne's gray because payne's gray, although it looks black, is actually a dark blue/black. It makes a nice color!

Fun exercise.
