    A few beginner mistakes I made were, using a small hard rubber roller that left marks on my painting, getting the acrylic medium on the front of the painting, and having the acrylic medium start drying, before I placed the painting on it. Also, rubbing to vigorously when applying the wax, and smearing some pencil marks. My solutions are... Got a wider roller made for the purpose, make sure you have enough wet paper towels to wipe up any/all stray glue, and spray mist the acrylic medium, if it is drying to fast. I like your idea of using soft cloth to apply the wax. Thanks for the wonderful video.

    So pretty much just a sped up video of you painting. How on earth is this a teaching video to instruct on technique? How can one "learn" anything from this.

    Sometimes I use a paintbrush too - nothing wrong with that! Just put a little soap and water on the bristles so the masking fluid doesn’t stick to it.

    Is it okay to use Dorland's wax on acrylic Ben Moore paint? I have some old cigar boxes. I put my watercolor paintings on the lids and sealed them with Dorland's wax. I painted the boxes with Ben Moore acrylic paint and sealed them with Dorland's wax. A month later, they still have a waxy feel to them. Anything I can do so it will feel more dry to the touch?

  • @SusanMonroeArt

    Thank you for this video, I know its 2 years ago but I recently bought some ruling pens also and I was wondering if rinsing them off with water would damage them? I know its a silly question but I find that when I am done with the pen, I rinse it off with water and dry it off completely with a dry wash cloth, is this ok?

  • @SusanMonroeArt
    @SusanMonroeArtАй бұрын

    Not a silly question at all! It's fine to rinse them with water when you're done so long as your completely dry it (which you're doing.) I don't think they can rust, but I wouldn't want to take the chance!

    Not a fountain pen! It's a dip pen. Fountain pens get clogged and can't be used for all inks.

    Amazing. I’m sure I don’t have the patience or the ability to see such detail, but it was fun to watch. I’d like to try it some rainy day! Thanks for saying it took about 3 hours, so I don’t get frustrated with the time it takes.

  • @SusanMonroeArt

    Thanks for your comment! I like to know how long a drawing actually took, otherwise it's easy to get frustrated because you think you're going too slowly when compared to the sped up video. You should give this a try! I'm sure you could do it.

    Nice video ❤ BTW, when I mix black with yellow I get a really nice green. (Olive-ish) lemon yellow always gives nice results but any yellow will work depending on the set.

  • @SusanMonroeArt
    @SusanMonroeArtАй бұрын

    I get the same when I mix yellow with payne's gray because payne's gray, although it looks black, is actually a dark blue/black. It makes a nice color!

    The problem with your mounting method is that you haven't applied anything that retards support-induced discoloration (SID). Before you add the gesso, you should have applied a sealer to the wood. Gesso is porous and can allow the wood to bleed acids into your watercolor painting.

  • @RaeGalloway
