I would say, even with pronunciation it helps actually having the southern accent.

Morgan Wallen is one of those guys who just came built to sing great. From Day 1 (when he appeared on American Idol years ago), he already had impressive voice control and a crazy-natural vibrato. Since then, he's gotten even better through performing experience. But he's something special and seems to have to work at singing much less than the rest of us. Don't you think?

It feels like he really figured out how to use just enough keyboard to compliment his singing, not the other way around. Perfect balance

Yes! I've been waiting for you to do some country Dr. Marc! This was a great reaction. I think country music has some of the best songwriters in the business. Even if it's not the style one may gravitate towards, they tend to be exceptional storytellers. I would be curious to have you compare and contrast two different styles singing the same song, Michael Buble and Blake Shelton singing Home. They have a great live performance that is worth a listen. Thanks for great content!

Yes, the simplicity of the video allowed me to let my imagination run with the story he was telling. I pictured the whole song in my head. It's like you say it is when someone is telling me a story, they don't tell it with illustrations they tell it with their words and I visualize their story with my imagination. This is exactly why this video works so well.

Have been wanting to do sad country songs at karaoke, thanks for the tips on singing with grit/distortion, I definitely was forcing the grit out and being louder, never thought that the performers aren’t actually being louder

Doc, this was an incredible lesson. As somone who LOVES music but is tragically untalented with all instruments (including voice) you earned an immediate subscribe for me in your description of the lower decibel level on distortion and the detail you laid out on the setting of the video.

I enjoyed your evaluation and must say the part about it allowing you to use your own imagination on the song is so spot on. Each line my mind was playing out that part.

Thanks for that. It was so good to hear and watch a voice pro's take on one of Wallen's better songs from his new album. I'm a johnny-come-lately fan of his and have been rooting for him in this record-breaking week for him and his team; but had lately been second guessing myself after reading some reviews that are coming out of the Beltway; i.e. NYTimes writters; sort of dissing his work and the music coming out of Nashville in general; song writing, voice quality, etc, and had begun wondering if I was the one biased towards him clouding my judgement, as my hometown is Knoxville where he went to highschool and where his parents live. But I also had in the back of my mind, considering some of the recent attempted take downs of country artists by "elites", Blake Shelton to be exact, if those persons are not being honest with themselves and us due to their own anti rural bias or maybe even for political purposes, as it is often assumed by many that everyone associated with country music must be on the conservative side along the political spectrum. Whatever the agenda of the haters though, I've come to conclude that Wallen's work is not mediocre in the least, and the masses, in this case at least, have it right, and the elitists are either biased or dishonest or a little of both, because when I hear country radio and then listen to an average song on the new "Dangerous" album, I hear something on the album far beyond the average country track on the radio. And when I hear one of the better songs on the album, it's not even close.

Because this song lets you make the pictures in your head. They way the words are like snapshots of this story, lets you see the snapshots in your head however they are to you. (Pictures absolutely said like, "pitchers", which my son gets on at me about for saying).

I've heard the guys from Supernatural (Ackles and Padalecki) who are from Texas say the Southern twang is because it's too hot in the South and we are too lazy to come all the way around in our enunciation. lol! I think it's true. 112 degrees and 90 when you wake up with humidity makes you not want to even move your mouth.
