Why Is Matty Healy Such A Pain In The A**?!
Ойын-сауық
Today I'm happy to be reporting on the return of the rockstar feud. However, I want to talk about why I think characters like Matty Healy and Yungblud are important for our culture, even if some of you may find either of them insufferable. Let me know how you feel about "feuds" and if you think the Trickster energy is important for culture, to challenge each other and keep us on our toes. Or do you just flat out hate anything like this? Do tell.

@@adambradley4293 but i feel like the whole show was him taking the piss out of that … it’s a weird cycle to get in to, because it sort of acts as criticism of what you are, but it also acts as a safety net for any criticism because you can just say you were already criticising it… but i still think it’s done well, because it hasn’t been done before - but it doesn’t need to be done again (as is the case with all art) which is one of the reasons why Youngblud’s poor knock off of the 1975’s show is so poor

@@adambradley4293 yeah, the dude is a massive hypocrite. But he also thinks he's in a revolutionary band when all the songs I hear from them are either just naff, basic pop records or poor knock-offs of stuff that has been done years before (paul simon, vampire weekend etc). And I have no issue with young, idealistic pop stars with naive, over-simplistic, trendy view points, it's nothing new and their hearts are generally in the right place. I've long thought that GnR in their prime was the last truly insane, dangerous rock band. No one knew what Axl might say. No one knew who he might take an (actual, physical) swing at and when. No one knew if there'd be a riot -- it was just "dress appropriately for dodging flying stadium seats." Matt Healy has a RAZOR SHARP bullshit detector, whatever his faults might be, and performative sensitivity and empathy are worthy targets. And geez, that Yungblud imitation is hilarious. Postscript: As much as it pains me to admit, "welcome to your 30s, I guess" is also a pretty sick burn. Gonna use that across decades.
He’s smoked on stage for 10 years mate. It’s his thing. And drinking wine on stage. But now he uses fake wine
Justin & Mr Healey, thank you for my smile & I love your honesty & joy within the alcohol free champagne, now that’s rocknroll
Yunblud was probably like wow that mat Healy stage bit was soo cool let me do the exact same thing! Can’t stand people like that
Yungblud is a product. His music, thoughts, presentation are all nothing more than what the industry thinks we need and sadly people lap it up. He’s a construct. Matt is saying what’s in his own head, even if it creates friction, you can hear the difference and it makes you want to listen. We’ve made it so easy for people by protecting them from conflict that friction has become an endangered beast, but we need so much more friction, to generate honest conversation, which leads to growth and understanding. I love that managers are thanking each other, just as much as I love Matt creating friction, it’s the balance of the two that we need, to help us form our own thoughts and opinions through the different experiences. We don’t stretch our brains enough anymore and don’t know how to respond to differing opinions without hate, which is dumbing us down.

Oh lordy, some of the fueds over the years have been spectacular. This one seems pretty mild in comparison. When he lit up on stage, it reminded me of, and this is a bit of a pull: does anyone remember that Never Mind The Buzzcocks episode where Simon Amstell was taking the piss out of Donnie Tourette? "Hold on, Donnie's *smoking* now? A *normal* cigarette that you can *legally buy in shops?* I'll try to carry on, but I am both *shocked and appalled!"*
I've loved this guy since marshall stacks and Lycra body suits. Been somewhat keeping up ever since but hewvily since the yt channel. And now I get a dose of one of my favorite musicians.
So well put 🙏🏻
I know what you mean about the cigarette looking pretty good, I quit over 6 months ago(well actually I substituted it with nicotine vape) so I guess quitting wouldn't be an accurate word, but I haven't had even one cigarette since my substitution. Both of them are completely guilty of each other's accusations. Out of the two I'm more in Yungblud's camp, mainly because he reminds me a bit of Billy Idol and I do think he's a decent human being. Have seen him live and he's nuts, he really gives it his all. Really want to hate Matty Healy for what he said, but I think he's also totally right. I think this jab that Yungblud is championing "obvious" stuff is because of his age; but who doesn't think they know everything at that age? I've seen Yungblud performs too, and I gotta say he's impressive. It's just him, a guitar and a drum. No smoke, not props. It's just him. Like, he really puts himself out there. There's something admirable about that. Who knows? he may be a flash-in-the pan, but he may really have something. He's developing his voice. I don't think it's fair for Matty Healy to mock YB's accent; it seems classist and personal, idk, you English got your own set of stuff around that jazz. But something about Matty Healy feels a bit entitled and his jab at YB kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Graceful thing may have been to just to ignore stuff. But times are changing, so who knows? @@ellenhenderson6865 I doubt it's down to his age because he has a big team around him. I think this is where I agree with Matty. Dom defends what Matty refers to as "morally obvious" as those are issues that are definitely safer to champion- that doesn't mean that the things Dom defends are not important issues- they are jus safer issues, and I guess Matty doesn't find that very punk or rock n' roll. He's making a much bigger point at how contrived and sterile things are in the Music World right now. I interpret the dig at the broad Yorkshire accent as Matty accusing Dom of overdoing, and even cashing in on, his accent and imitating mega stars such as Liam Gallagher, Alex Turner and I'm sure there are others. Dom has borrowed from everyone going, but that's why I like him. He takes elements of so many big artists and groups that people love and melds it into some really good tracks and shows. The Cure, Oasis, Billy Idol, Nirvana , ACDC, The Artic Monkeys, Eminem and even the 1975 themselves, are all major influences on the music he puts out, he's like a walking, talking Juke Box. Matty seems frustrated by the music world and is making it known and I admire this, he seems more original (even if I do find his recent performances a bit pompous and lack luster) he's stirring the pot bigtime. On the Oasis thing, he's hit the nail on the head. Time will tell if he is using this as a guise to mask some of the more worrying and sinister views that people on social media have accused him of.
Wait, this video ended way too quickly, I'd love to listen to more of what you have to say on the subject and perhaps compare it to when everyone seemed to be feuding and taking the piss all the time. I miss those times. I miss when we were capable of discussing music and ideas and society without everyone getting "triggered" all the time and we were capable of nuance and passion and even when people were divided by opinions and beliefs (or Oasis vs Blur) it felt like we were all a part of one good thing, a living organism. Doesn't feel like that these days anymore.
Finally something to eat up, but I'm totally on mattys side he's an actual person who speaks his mind like a true rockstar even though I'm aware it's a persona but YOUNGBLOOD IS AN INDUSTRY PLANT 😂😂
The David Lee Roth vs Sammy Hagar always feuding who was better was always pretty entertaining

Hey Justin here is a question id like to ask you, do you believe in ghosts, spirits, demons etc:? Have you ever had a supernatural experience?? And have you ever seen the music documentary called "the devil and Daniel Johnson "? Have you ever heard Daniel Johnsons album "hi how are you "? He made it just before he had a mental breakdown and was put into a mental hospital, it's a great album, really haunting , sad , and beautiful at the same time, I think this would be an excellent one for you to cover, really interesting, and here come the demons...whhhooaaaaaaa
I will say this about matty. i've been a fan of 1975 for a long time. Seen two of their live shows. I may not always agree with his takes, in fairness he's an artist. However, something i've grown to admire is his willingness to use his platform to speak on things he's passionate about. Other people may say, shut up and play the music, but he challenges things with his music and his little pep talks on stage. I kinda dig it. Again, not all the time, but at least it shows he's thinking about things and his place in the world and his impact on others as an artist. I think even deeper what's more admirable, is he's risking his career to say what he feels in his heart and he seems to be trying to be as authentic as he can be. And that's what's cool. He's just being himself. Thanks for covering this. Music drama is cool beans.
Being a pain in the mainstream ass is just good fun
