Why Is It So Hard To Get To Mercury, Mars And Jupiter?

Ғылым және технология

Why is Mercury the most difficult planet to visit despite being close to earth?
Even though Mercury is the second closest planet to Earth, this is also the most challenging planet to visit, but why?
Is it because it is too close to the sun? Because of its high temperatures? Or will the composition of the planet have something to do with it? The answer will surprise you!
The closest planet to Earth is Venus; yes, you heard right, Venus; although it is popularly said that the planet more like Earth is Mars, the closest is Venus because it is only 25 million miles (40 million km) from the Earth at its closest point.
Why is it so difficult to get to Mars?
In addition to Earth, Mars is the planet with the best conditions to host humans. Space agencies such as SpaceX or NASA are planning to take the next generation of astronauts to the red planet, but it has not yet been achieved, Why is it so difficult to get to Mars?
let's start!
During the space race in the 60s, NASA successfully took six missions to the moon that placed 12 astronauts on the surface of our natural satellite. Having gone to the moon several times nearly five decades ago and is used to seeing astronauts travel to space almost routinely, having extended stays on the International Space Station, it's tempting to think that sending humans to Mars could be perfectly plausible today.
Is it challenging to get to Jupiter? Why have we never seen its interior?
Jupiter is the most visited gaseous planet of all; throughout the history of space exploration, it has been visited by nine spacecraft; however, so far, only one ship has managed to cross its dense atmosphere to observe its interior. Is it tough to land a spaceship on Jupiter? What's inside the gas giant?

Over half the time Venus is not the nearest planet to Earth; Mercury is. In fact, the scientists have crunched the numbers and found that on average, Mercury is the closest planet not only to Earth but to every other planet in the solar system as well.

It shouldn't matter that Mars is only closer than Mercury every 26 months. That's still its closest point to us, as that's how you're measuring Mercury. So Mars is actually second closest to earth.

True. Venus is closest..... at its closest. Mars is 2nd. On average Mercury is closer than either . So not even 2nd according to that. On average its closer than Mars or Venus. But at its closest.....it's 3rd.

They got their numbers wrong. The closest approaches for Mercury, Venus and Mars in respect to the Earth are 27 million miles, 25 million miles, and 34 million miles respectively. For some reason they used Mercury's average distance from the Earth instead of its closest approach distance. While there are times when Mars is closer to Earth then Mercury, so long as you use the same metrics for all three planets, then they are correct by accident. During closest approach, Mercury is closer to Earth than Mars. During maximum separation, Mercury is closer to Earth than Mars. On average, Mercury is closer to Earth than Mars. At times, however, Mars is closer to Earth than Mercury since each planet has its own orbit and are independent of each other.

Something like an ion engine or something like this that can be upscaled to a much larger ship and then you need a magnetosphere to surround your ship so you don’t die in trip if you’re hit by a mass coronal ejection from the sun comes your way.

0:50 Well done. You really need to check your numbers. The closest approach for Earth and Venus is 25 million miles. You got this one correct. The average distance is 62 million miles. The closest approach for Earth and Mercury is 27 million miles, not 48 million. 48 million miles is the average distance. The closest approach between Earth and Mars is 34 million miles. The 55 million figure is for kilometers. The average distance is 140 million miles. Perihelion has nothing to do with the distance from one planet to another. Perihelion is the point at which a body is closest to the sun and that distance is about 128 million miles. The term to describe the closest approach between two planets or other astronomical bodies is the unusually pragmatic "closest approach". I guess "perihelion" sounded more scientific or something.

@@DanielWatson-vv7cd BTW, I don't disagree with you in principle. I was just responding to your original post of why would we want to do it. It is part of the human experience to explore. There is another reason. Because we are systematically destroying the only planet we live on. Going to Mars for example, can help us potentially learn about the evolution of that planet to educate ourselves on our own (like what happened to the magnetic field and the atmosphere and water). We should be paying attention to the effects man has on his own environment in order to get smarter about how to preserve it. There are those in power now who don't want us to put Earth observing instruments in space to better understand our climate, how its changing, and the effect man is having on it. These people are being fed misinformation by egregious polluters of own own planet who don't seem to understand that all the money in the world now will not help their future progeny to survive in a world that will no longer support life.

Men and women inside prison live in similar situations with confinement and stressful situation. So if we can get through that going to mars should be fine it's not like that there going to be away for 20 30 40 years in a tin can aluminum foil can.😅

Humans are far to fragile to travel those distances. No way we could survive for years cut off from the earth. The men of Apollo 13 had it easy compared to anything going to other planets. It only takes 3 days to get to the moon. It takes years to go to planet. You would have to take everything you need to last that long and the extra fuel . The ship would have to be huge. No one would want to pay for a mission like that.

The only realistic way to get to Mars is to produce the fuel on the Moon and launch from there.

I stopped watching after a few seconds. Mercury is the closest planet to earth, not the second closest. Because of a rapid orbit, on average, it's the closest planet to earth most often. Bonus fun fact Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, earth, Venus, and Mars more often than any other planet.

It's hard to get there because we don't know how to leave earth, and probably can't

It is a shame bc I like their space content but I avoid this channel. Every time I give them a chance it is disappointing, I don't think they don't know what they're talking about

What BL🤯WS MY MIND!!! Is the math of the distance between us and Mars. Earth and the moon... in that distance, you can fit ALL THE PLANETS of the solar system side by side in that space!! So multiplying that and receiving a number as to the distance between us and our neighbor!!! Absolutely insane!! To achieve this, we would have to send multiple craft with the materials the crew would need for supplies and fuel to return. Land those there and have them waiting for them to give and do al the scientific studies and observations. Wow!!!! What it would be like to stand on another planet and just SEE THE SUN!!! 1st time I saw the sun from Mars... I ended up writing a song. To see the sun and to see the earth as well!!!! Absolutely amazing is what it would be! Can you IMAGINE WHATBIT WOULD BE LUKE FLYING BACK TI THE EARTH!?!? After all the time away! To get back and be able to just breathe and see the blue skies and be able to get inactive warm pool of water! The future holds great things for space exploration!!! It sucks im already 38! I'm sooo excited to see the future of what we do and see our there!

What a laughable title. I clicked in it to not bother watching the video but seriously. Any human being educated to grade 8 in the public school system, can figure out why it is we haven’t been back to the moon for shits and giggles. It’s far too costly, quite simply.

Sorry mate, this could have been a really interesting video, but you just go on and on and on... getting to Mercury would be easier than for you to get to the point. Five minutes in, and I'm outta here.
