Why iPhones Get So Hot

Ғылым және технология

Feeling your iPhone heat up to an uncomfortable level is concerning, since high temperatures can damage internal components and permanently shorten battery life. So why does Apple's iPhone get so hot, and what can you do to keep it cool?

I live in a cold country and have never experienced my iPhone getting too hot. However, when using it outdoors when it's very cold, around -20°C (-4° F), it shuts itself off and displays the "iPhone needs to cool down" message… Silly, but amusing.

They probably do get less hot overall but that doesn’t mean they can’t overheat. All phones just by the fact they lack internal fans and/or water coolling rely on their cases serving as Gia t heat seats. This works to a large degree but in extreme heat situation of if they are exposed to direct sunlight on a hot day, the iPhones methods of cooling will fail to keep up with the heat and you can sometimes find the phone needing to cool down before use. Since I am not aware a scientific study that looks and overheating in iPhones vs Android phones it may be that iPhones do indeed overheat less then Android but iPhone users just don’t notice it as much since they don’t use Android.

My iPhone 6s is to this day giving me great performance and battery life, I’d love to keep using it but it’s main problem is the overheating from straining the processor at the slightest power demanding task :(

Duudee, insanely good timing! I opened an XS Max for old time sake my wife gave me and noticed it was overheating in moderately intensive tasks. She said that only ever started happening right after she cracked the $#!+ out of it. But I guess this is an all around iPhone thing.

You’re just wrong. Sure, in a normal scenario: „more processing power = higher power consumption“ when comparing two chips, but not on iPhones compared to Androids. The A15 not only bests any other Mobile Processor on the market, but it does that while consuming less power than, let’s say the SD8gen1.

Of course avoid direct sunlight, that will heat up anything (including eggs on asphalt road). this video fails to mention that there is no internal heat sink inside of iPhones. Samsung has engineered copper lined vapor chambers & graphene chassis to help mitigate overheating. it’s not perfect but helps with daily tasks where iOS would screen dim like graphics intensive games. If Apple did this it might help daily CPU intensive tasks (outside of direct sunlight). full disclosure. i own all apple products so i’m not an android fanboy trying to troll. just a portion that could be improved because there’s been times where i’m gaming indoors (genshin impact) & the screen will dim just from CPU throttling alone.

Where I am in Australia; for a few months a year, phones are almost unusable for in-car navigation. Even with the air conditioning turned on! I regularly find my iPhones getting too hot and shutting off. Good luck getting the phone to charge whilst navigating too. Would be a pipe dream to achieve that. Half the year round the phone has to automatically cripple the brightness as well to prevent overheating.
