Ultimately, this video is my personal opinion and you are entitled to your own as well so feel free to disagree in the comments below!
This video will cover what we can expect from both a Prequel & a Sequel, why I believe a Sequel would be the better option, the best possible solution & much more!

    I mean think about it if a game is doing well, might as well provide extra content. Plus this form of development could give monolith the chance to tell other story’s that normally wouldn’t make it into a mainline game. Of course I don’t want them to keep releasing story dlc after story dlc, since at that point it would basically become a requirement in order to understand what the hells going.

    The thing with that is it would be taking the focus off of the development of new Monolith projects meaning we'd have to wait even longer for an X remake. That said, it still is possible and it might already be in the works due to how the DLC timeline seems to have been messed up already (We're likely getting some update or DLC around the start of December for the Game Awards considering it was nominated (Ino was originally planned for early december but seems to have been pushed out early))

    I think a sequel story is more likely than a prequel one. Biggest thing being there isn't really much of anything to tell a prequel story about. Only possible idea we can come up with is the founders but we know nothing about them other than Rex and Shulk knew them. Compare that to how Torna was treated in 2, the aegis war was the event that effectively set 2s story into motion. It was consistently referenced or called to through it's story. And we're given constant talk in the ending about how they'll meet again and Noah hearing the flutes. I also think a sequel story would be the easiest one to explain and have the three iconic swords altogether as the artwork for the expansion depicts.

    The dlc should be a nice culmination to the three worlds. It's funny after three games we still don't know what comes after the end game of each, maybe a little on 1 but nothing significant. The dlc can be a perfect fan fair culmination of all three worlds with a simple conflicted plot.

    Something I have noticed about the DLC of XB1 and XB2: They are both set in the time that is the focus of their respective game's themes. XB1 is about grasping the future and the DLC "Future connected" takes place in the future of the game. XB2 is about the past and when to let go of it and it's DLC "Golden Country of Torna" takes place in the past of the game's story. Which would mean, that if this keeps up, then the XB3 DLC would take place during the "present" of the game's stroy, which at the end of it, would mean it would take place in the restored world aka a sequel.

    I'm hoping it's not a prequel. I feel like the world of Aionios unfortunately doesn't matter much and seeing how it began won't really add anything, especially with the themes of the world being stagnant and unchanging, seeing how the endless now started is just the now. Also unlike the previous two games, we don't really get much closure at the end of X3, just a sort of cliffhangery thing? I think leaving Aionios behind is the best move.

  • @JBspherefreak

    @JBspherefreak

    Yea pretty much agree. I do think Aionios and the future of it have great importance to the overall plot of this new Xenoblade Saga but yea, the past of it probably won't add much in my opinion either. Only context for what happened during the events of X3

  • @lr4164
    @lr4164 Жыл бұрын

    If you look at it this way. Xenoblade 3's DLC could possibly be an interquel/midquel. Xenoblade 1's themes center around the future and changing the fate that presides over the protags. So the expansion is an epilogue, taking place 1 year after the main game. Xenoblade 2's themes center around confronting the past and how the past influences the event of the main game, therefore we get a prequel, taking place during the events before the main game. Xenoblade 3's themes are about the present, mostly about the endless now and the people of Aionios' desire to reject the pre-ordained position that has been set upon them.

A sequel where the two worlds merge fully and the premise being confronting the Moebius by confronting the past trauma of the past lives of characters to make sure the full merge can happen without the same thing happening again. Heck, imagine if the world was set in a recreation of Pre-Apoclypse Morytha to represent this theme. What if Shulk starts getting flashbacks to Klaus like Noah did with N?

    I think that my issue with a prequel is that XBC3 doesn’t really have any room for history. Everyone not from the City lives for 10 years, and everyone from the City is completely unaware of there heritage, as shown by the fact that the founders stories are contained in a novel, not a history book. Ainios is a broken dying corrupted world, I’d like to see the world Origin was supposed to create. Just my two cents.

    I personally deel like the best way to do a dlc story (assuming that it only ends up being one single story, which you've pointed out may not be the case) might be to have it take place enitrely outside aionios. Where the very start of the game details the creation of Origin from the perspective of the Xenoblade 1 and 2 casts, but later transitions to the events following 3 due to the how little time passes outside aionios when aionios exists. Any stories related to the founders could still be told simultaneously as it's hinted towards that Shulk and Rex knew the founders, so that the fouders stories could still be told through Shulk and Rex getting some kind of memories of the events of aionios

    I have to disagree...the thing is to me, the story of them overcoming Origin IS the end of Xenoblade 3 and a side story sequel can shove the series into a different direction and build up for a new entry, AKA Xenoblade 4. I understand the concern and it is dependent on how they do the Sequel side story for the game but I don't think that it would justify a prequel giving us NO new information either

    A sequel would coincide with 3's theme of moving on toward the future and not being stuck in the present moment. A prequel would contradict this theme, and would also I think being stuck in the past is arguably worse than being stuck in the present.

  • @OwnageMancer

    I agree with your thoughts on a prequel, but I think a sequel would undermine 3's message of finality, not solidify it. Imo, the prequel vs sequel debate is a false dichotomy. I think the most fittiny expansion story would take place in tandem with with main story. I want to see a Moebius focused story with Consul A dealing with the black fog problem, exacerbated by the 6 Noahs breaking all the flame clocks. Maybe the fog king was part of a whole race. What if the annihilation events represent corrupted data in the save files of the original worlds, and A has been replacing it with data from the other world? That could be a good setup for how Mio and Noah meet each other in not just a sequel DLC, but a full blown sequel.

  • @JBspherefreak

    I disagree, Xenoblade 3's ending is anything but conclusive and so adding an actual end to the Klaus saga would maintain and solidify that message. Yes the overall theme of the ending of being uncertain will then be erased but the future of the series will move forwards with or without a sequel so its only a matter of time. As for a story that takes place during the main timeline, I would be interested in something like that but I also feel that that would be incredibly hard to pull of effectively. There would need to be a good balance of both and I just think it would be a pain for them to do and be even more likely to lead into massive plot holes. There is a way to do it admittedly but for now, I'm uncertain on the idea

    I feel like it's going to take place in the same time as the base game xenoblade 1 has a leitmotif about the future with the monado seeing into the future, the "DLC" for it, future connected takes place in the future xenoblade 2 has many of it's important events done in the past, jin's realization about blades, amalthus nihilistic worldview, the destruction of torna and the split of mythra/pyra all are 500 years in the past, so the devs made the DLC take place 500 years before the base game starts xenoblade 3's world during the base game has no past or future, the only time death is permanent is if the one gets sent via homecoming (and even then I'm pretty sure noah is an exception), the only major event between keves and agnus is a perpetual war everyone must engage in, many of it's cities are just run-of-the-mill camps and are more military bases, growing old and making babies is unheard of for most of the characters (that's why snuff and spark is used in place of the usual swear words), the only exceptions are the lost numbers, pretty sure time is stopped during all of it too, it's a world in an endless now as much as I would love to see lanz and sena reunite after all of the base game, I'm pretty sure the dlc will take place in the same time as the base game

    I would be fine with either a sequel or a prequel. I've seen enough examples in my lifetime of both sequels and prequels either enhancing or diminishing the of the original story. It all depends on the quality of writing, and I generally trust Monolith Soft to tell a good story. What I really want are some answers. Past chapter 5 of XC3 the story becomes very convoluted especially in regards to Origin, Z/Moebius, Ouroboros, and the colliding worlds. Basically all of the catalysts for the story have very little explanation for how any of it came to be. And IMHO it makes the ending feel as though it's in a rush to wrap everything up and missing a lot of context.

    The more I think about it the more I'd like this story to be a prequel but with the Consul's as the main characters & having the returning cast of XB1, XB2 & the founders being the antagonists. Plus the "what lies in the future for Xenoblade" could just be refering to a gimmic of the Side story's combat system that would get flushed out in a future title. Similar to FC showing the multitude of characters fighting with the party. And considering we do know nothing of the original Consuls C, D, I, J, M, N & S (also Consul A just not being anywhere) I feel like the Torna comparison wouldn't be far off. Finally the Xenoblade's side stories has focused on flushing out some of the villains of their original story: Jin with Torna & Tyrea with FC.

    @@JBspherefreak *Fair* since 'gimmick' was a very bad way for me to phase what I meant. So as an attempt to better explain myself. The Consuls each poses some form of unique ability that sounds pretty busted/broken on paper, but becomes an intrinsic part of gameplay. Think Shulk's Future Vision from XB1, future vision sound's super broken, but context matters. So what if, in this Consul lead story idea, each of the playable characters has a unique ability that directly effects how the game is played. So for example Consul A (for Alvis?) would just have Shulk's future vision, but if you swap to a ("Younger") Consul Z your party gains Torna's health recovery system. Which would allow Monolith Soft to demo a sort of 'specific power' system, that would be better honed & expanded in a future Xenoblade 4. Hopefully that better explained what I was thinking as a 'gimmick'. Oh and no, I don't want Consul A to actually be XB1's Alvis. I just thought that it would be ironic that since Shulk had a hand in making half of Origin, that he would name one of the AIs Alvis. Then when that Alvis becomes a Consul & turn on his creator, just like the original Alvis did with his master Zanza. "You know cause it's like Poetry, it rhymes." Also Blake Ritson's muck'in killed it on Krypton by basically just doing an Evil Alvis... at least for the parts where the audio mixers didn't destroy his voice. Oh and just because I forgot to mention it in the original comment, but I do also really want Monolith soft to just do a second wave of DLC for XB3, basically (eventually) doing a prequel and sequel. and maybe even tying them together.

  • @JBspherefreak

    So as for the extra wave of DLC, we might already be getting something similar. Xenoblade 2 had tons of free content and updates and Xenoblade 3 has had none so far...why? Because of the game awards! It's only a theory at the minute but I think Monolith knew Xenoblade 3 would be nominated months ago and therefore, they moved Ino up in the schedule (Her update was lacking a lot of content we were promised) and now they're gonna release a big free update early december and promote it through the game awards As for the Gimmick side of things, I still would not be a fan and it doesn't really make sense either...I use to study games design and if they want to "Test" a mechanic or system like that, then they would simply test it internally. Risking and entire DLC story that people have paid for just to test a mechanic is a really, REALLY bad descision whichever way you look at it

    @@JBspherefreak Oh I didn't know XB3 got into the game awards, hope they win. But back (for the final time) on the "Test" thing. I obviously think they would test a gameplay mechanic internally, what would probably be a better term is introducing audiences to the mechanic. There's a gameplay term that escapes me at the moment, but its basically when a company wants possible buyers to test out a vertical slice of a game that is usually free to play. The term escapes me, but basically I think the GAMEPLAY of XB3's DLC story will introduce SOME of the things for a XB4. Like how Torna introduced Camps. But the STORY of XB3's DLC will focus on tying in &/or enhancing the Base Game's story. Like how Future Connected showed Melia taking steps to become queen. Hopefully that better explained myself.

    I don't think a prequel works, for the same reason the Torna DLC DID work: To learn more about characters we care about... Several of the big players in XC2 lived during the war 500 years ago, and we know their relationships were very different from what we see, so even though we know exactly where they end up during XC2s story, we care about how it got to that point. But we don't really know or care about any of the characters beside M, N and Nia from that time of the first Ouroboros, as we would have completely different versions of Mio, Noah and the others... A sequel however could explain why it seems like we have two seperate versions of Mio and Noah by the end, since Mio narrates that she no longer remembers how Noah looks, saying that it's okay, and hinting that their XC3 versions still exist in the new seperate worlds, possibly allowed to live their final life out, alongside the original versions from before and after the events of 3. I mean, kid Noah recognized the flute music in the after credit scene too... Maybe the game is gonna let Noah and the gang regain their memories of their adventures, and the task is gonna be to stop an evil force from remaking the Mobious world again, while also maybe find a way to let the two worlds interact, without compromising their individual realities. I think Melias and Nias musings about them finding a way for their two worlds to walk hand in hand again someday is a clear sign that it's this "new way" of existing together that will be the focus

As for why Melia and Nia didn't tell us before, well Nia has 15tp and Melia was a bit busy at the time....in all seriousness, it wouldn't have been important anyway. Ultimately however, Takahashi said that any fan who had played all 3 of the games will know where the future of the series is heading and that can't be done via a sequel

    The main issue with a sequel is that it sounds like a Marvel movie by concept They will rush the character reunion so the time for the DLC doesn't get wasted in a build up, then they will shove down your face Shulk, Rex and XC1/2 fanservice and the villain will probably be fog beasts or Consul A, something happens and boom everyone is here to fight against Consul A! Then the story ends with everyone happy, fin. The Prequel is lamer but way more safe than forcing the fanservice and rush things out, i also feel like whatever happened afther the post credits will be show as the post credits of the Prequel DLC, they also hint a lot of info about the Founders in the City in the post game if you walk through there

That might be something like you said but if they build on it, then there's nothing wrong with that imo. I get your concerns but I think their misplaced personally As for the founders, there really isn't as much info as you think. Try putting it all together and you'll start to see the massive gaps and inconsistencies that exist there...this is the reason I haven't made a "Explaining The Founders" video yet as you constantly run into dead ends, plot holes and have a lack of information

    Personnally I want a prequel, prequels to be exact (and go along the plural "stories") : First you can see the meeting of Shulk's and Rex's teams in Aionios just after the "booting" of Origin, and the emergence of Z and the Moebius which kick their arse. Then the begin of the war between the survivors and the Moebius, which kick their arse (again) and captured Melia to control Origin. That leads to the elaboration of a century long plan to beat Moebius, which will kick their arse for the last time, with the establishment of the city and first generation of Founder and/or Ouroboros, with previous version of Mio and Noah (and thus the message of the story is to believe in the future and future generations, and not just redo the same thing again like the Endless Now or a Déjà-vu). Yes I mainly want to see the previous games' cast getting rekt for drama. Oh and for the explanation of how all lived so long inside Aionios, well the Queens didn't age neither (they look older, and Shulck and Rex's statues too because they aged before the creation of Origin) and while their biology and Nia's sleeping pod could be the answer, the fact that they aren't "Aionians" is a possibility too. And then we got a sequel with Xenoblade 4, with the serie new direction to be about the re-emerge of the worlds (but this time correctly) with multivers/timetravel shenanigans with the X remake.

    Technically a prequel within Aionios cannot be since time is stopped. Aionios is the embodyment of present. Xenoblade 1's characters are obssesed with the future, they want to siege over it- additional story ended up as a sequel. Xenoblade 2's characters are obssesed with the past, never growing out of it's shadow - additional story ended up as a prequel. Xenoblade 3's main focus has the characters be obssesed with the here and now, the present - additional story surely will take place in the present, a midquel. But I still think it will be the founders, why? Because the idea of Aionios is that it's always the present, the same places, the same ppl, the same war. The only ppl that live outside of it are the City ppl obviously, but what gets me is how that would fit in as the setting for the final additional story in the trilogy while also expanding on the "past" of Aionios. Now we all know at this point house Vandham is the decandant of N and M, on top of that he is from design straight up just a Fei reference. So here is a Xenogears spoiler but: It's the beginning of the DLC, peaceful day, you chill at your homie whose last name is Uzuki probably. N, your father who also looped thousands of deaths with his wife, He attacks your home town, the original city, and kills everyone within it, You fight him and best him through the power of material arts. I dunno this IS literally just a Xenogears reference that I need to see because all the ingridients are there. What we could also see from a midquel like this is other loops of the original cast. Maybe a different take on Lanz as a character that adds to the him we see in XC3 and he joins you as a hero. Also please make some of these Moebius ppk actual good characters whose names aren't Moebius S, I, T, J, D and N. Looking at you fucking Moebius C. Also a correction here in the vid. The Founders were the first Ouroboros of the new City not the first Ouroboros entirely since we see Noah and gang become Ouroboros multiple times when fighting Z when the original city was still around. They are just the first Ouroboros of the second City.

It would necessarily be a forgone conclusion of the player characters losing, and I don't know enough about them beforehand to be invested in their story despite that. Torna is like the story of my parents, whereas a 3 prequel would be like a story of the real life founding fathers. Both are necessary to mine happening, but I have almost no personal stake in hearing the latter compared to the former. Compare that to a sequel, which, due to how Xenoblade 3 ends, would essentially be a prequel in terms of how it can expand the lore, but would also have potential to show the aftermath of the base game "my story". Do people remember anything that happened inside of Aionios? Do any of the powers granted by Origin carry over to the recreated worlds? What will happen to Origin now that it's fulfilled its purpose? How have my favorite worlds and characters changed since I last saw them, and how will they continue to change going forward? Alvis saw all life walk towards the future hand in hand, and now could be when we get to see it for ourselves.

    Keeping this in the reply to avoid cringe on the original. As for what I want the story to be about, here's a premise I came up with. It'd start out being told from Mio's perspective, maybe even mirroring Noah's prologue. She starts out as a kid vaguely remembering Aionios and her love for Noah, and spends years of her life finding a way to cross over to his world to meet him. By the time she finally finds a means that could work, she's the age of her base game self, and activating her means somehow causes the main threat to appear. I'm thinking it be that she creates a rift leading to Aionios, a subspace connected to both worlds that was recreated alongside the other two, but also houses many fog kings based on the memories that were left behind by Origin. Destroy the Fog Kings to return the memories to their people, and hopefully find a way to keep the rifts open and live with the freedom to choose. (The rifts lead from Aionois to Alrest and Alvis, with the freedom to choose which world you live in and who you live in it with) (Alvis is what I'm dubbing the new world that Shulk created at the end of Xenoblade 1) "I don't want an endless now, I just don't want the now to be forgotten when we walk towards the future" -quote I came up with to insert at a climactic moment

    Your not wrong and knowing so little isn't necerssarily a bad thing but I always come back to the fact that it still can't really add anything to the overall plot line. I do agree tho that I hope they don't mess up the reunion. It shouldn't be a major plot line at all imo

    I think people are also missing the last alternate possibility, an alternate game route. Basically alternate possibility and defeating Moebius A and have a different ending, plus there is still that land mass that can be seen in the cloud keep that is always covered by cloud, maybe add that too. It expands on the founders and the future. Torna is about the past. FC is about the future 3 DLC is about the present.

    I'ma be honest...I think this is the worst possible option we could get. Either the entire story would be completely irrelevant because it isn't the true ending OR it would make the rest of the main game even more pointless. The only way this could remotely work is if Xenoblade wanted to open up its own Multiverse which just seems like a very bad and confusing choice for right now. Personally, I wouldn't be a fan of this choice

    Takahashi already said that the wave 4 story will be similar in size to Torna, so introducing any new characters is out of the question imo. This is the main issue I have with a founder's prologue. Torna has a runtime of around 20 hours with just under 3 hours of cutscenes. I don't feel like that's enough time to develop 6 new party members, and have them share the spotlight with potential legacy characters. It may work as a 40 to 50 hour experience but 20 is too slim I feel. I'd rather see current plotlines/worldbuilding questions answered than to have anymore new main characters and questions introduced, especially since this is most likely the last piece of content in this continuity. There's also the expansion pass cover art which shows nothing founder/city related and instead mirrors the xb1 cover art. I wonder what this could be implying...

  • @JBspherefreak

    @JBspherefreak

    I mean...Torna did have new characters like Lora and Hugo and Minoth and even Milton. Heck even (through technicality) Brighid and Aegeaon were different characters through being different people with different memories. Even if that was the case tho, 20 hours is more then enough to introduce and grow some characters. Can they do it to the same extent as the main game? Of course not but this is only a side story so I wouldn't expect them to do so. There's enough time to make interesting characters and have an interesting story even with it being limited in size. It's not a new game, it's DLC. I mean at the end of the day I also want a Sequel but just for much different reasons

  • @raen5256
    @raen5256 Жыл бұрын

    I aboslutely agree, I don't want another prequel. As much as I loved Torna, prequels don't carry the same tension as the unknown outcome. Tbh I prefer to learn about the founders through in-game additions, rather than play their story. Plus, I feel that the end of the game begs for a sequel and I doubt they'd just make another Xenoblade game sequel to this trilogy.

  • @fieldkaiju

    Sequel has nothing to tell, Prequel has to make sense of the nonsensical status quo of 3 after 1 and 2. Sequel ultimately wouldn't make the game better, while also having high chances of being shit because, I mean they fucking conjured an all powerful enemy from litterally nowhere just for 3, and they lost to arguably the weakest party up to date, how are they ever going to have tension, while 1 and 2's party are here on top of 3's ?? Realistically, they can't make a new map that would accurately represent a whole new world, even less 2. It makes no sense for it not to be about 3, and it make no sense for it to be in a distant future to start a new storyline for future game, as the whole point of a sequel would be to see both world reunite. Prequel could make the game better, it's also very realistically feasible, as Aionios could simply be modified to fit the timeframe. It would also make the lore and worldbuilding of 3 that much less shit. It wouldn't go against the theme of moving on that the game bashes in your head near the end, possibly give X and Y a reason to exist, and answer who A is. Pretty confident that whatever you would prefer, prequel is on the way.

    Yea thats what I was saying. There's defo two ways to look at it and none of them are right or wrong but it's kinda Moebius to want to keep things as they are by doing a prequel instead of risking that step into the future with a sequel

    I really feel that they should just leave Aionos and move on with the actual plot. In my interpretation of XB3, Aionos is a fake world. Being fake, adding more and more elements to it, instead of making things clear, will just make it even more incoherent, leading to the generic solution that Aionos is actually a purgatory, thus, things are supposed to make sense

    I would really want a sequel more. I feel like a prequel would only provide more context on the founders and Aionios. I'd like to see the story focus on the founders, implying that the story will be a prequel. However, the twist is that the story actually takes place after Xenoblade 3's ending, and focuses on the truly united world. There would be some plot holes, but I think it could happen. But my biggest theory is that this will connect with and lead into Xenoblade X. And then, I think that when X does get brought back, it will be renamed Xenoblade 4.

    Sorry my man… seems you never pay attention to any of the Xenoblade Games stories. Clearly the prequel was explain and shown. We see the story of the founders like literally see it and hear of it so much how everything went. We know what went wrong there was people that was afraid of the change and that feeling turn into the entity and make that shift of the two sides. The two sides are the two previous games. A simple way. Xenoblade one . The explains scientis divided the world and that how the 1 world was created. Xenoblade 2 show you the other world story which to free both world they need to kill the scientists simultaneously which they did. Xenoblade three both world we’re merging into one. But as said at the end of 2 this will not save the world since it was divided cus in xenoblade due to being on the brink of destruction. So people was scare and wish for no change that make the entity of both world’s people feelings and created ouroboros cicle. Xenoblade 3 ended by re-separating the worlds again in order to save them. Sequel could be anything since the possibilities are endless and they do can add a side stories of heroes of 3 meeting again

    What are you talking about? Firstly, I have spent thousands of hours in each Xenoblade game and have gone crazy in depth into the story of Xenoblade 3 specifically. The Founders were undoubtedly teased and brought up as a plot point in Xenoblade 3 but was a "Prequel explained and shown"? Absolutely NOT! I don't know where your getting your info from (This is such a "Source? I made it the fuck up" moment) cos we get barebones information. We literally know that House Reid and House Cassinni Founders are female...and that is it. Tbh, other then the Hopes Rest lore dump in Chapter 6, the Founders are only brought up in Chapter 5 and are then never mentioned again. Secondly, I have never seen a more poorly explained version of the Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade 2 games in my life. I mean technically, your not wrong but you still are as there is so much more to what you put with the fact that Klaus and Zanza didn't need to be killed at the same time as its more accurate to say that Zanza is what was keeping Klaus alive in the first place and his defeat meant the end of Klaus. Additionally, the Xenoblade 2 cast LITERALLY never attacked/tried to kill or harm Klaus in anyway so no they didn't kill him (Your High). Thirdly, I really can't be arsed to try and comprehend any more of this nonsense so do me a favour and replay ALL of the games starting from Xenogears, INCLUDING Xenosaga 2 and get then get back to me on this 😊
