I’ve been in sales for 3 weeks and it’s been the most challenging time of my life. Mentally I’m being pushed to be more confident, to go for what I want, to be fearless in my approach and to not have fear of rejection but I don’t really love the idea of spending all of my mental energy everyday trying to push someone to purchase something that may not need 😭

I will be quitting my sales job in a couple of months as well. Just gave my resignation letter. The past 8 months were not easy at all. Still two months to go. But I hope I'll get through it. I'd cry my butt out every single morning thinking that I have to make tons of calls during the entire day, experience clients being mean to me and my boss picking up the mistakes that I made during the call. It's extremely draining. Honestly, I wanted to quit it months ago. But my peers in the office keep telling me that I'd be making a huge mistake if I quit this job and that I'll regret it. But, I always wanted to do something creative. I have passion for Marketing mainly in the branding side where I'll be doing challenging but creative stuff. But my BDR job almost killed all my hobbies and passion. Even though by the time I was able to improve my communication skill a lot but I was anxious and not fulfilled at all. I might not be doing anything in a month or more after I leave my present job, it would be challenging. But, I don't think I'll regret leaving this job. Hopefully I'll get to do what I really wanna do in life. Wish me luck!

Samiha - thanks for watching! I really am wishing the best for you. Yes, my example is extreme. I quit without another job lined up. But yes, find what you love to do. If you're miserable every day - it's not worth it. Head up - we're both going to be fine!

Had a very similar experience to you. Quit after 2 months. I know exactly what you mean when you say you had to drink gin every morning to survive - it’s literally the only way to curb the anxiety you feel in these types of jobs. Glad to hear things are going better!

It's just so relatable, I just left my job and it's the 17th day, I had to go through alot for last 7 months and it was killing me inside, I wanted to have a weekend, wanted to breathe and feel myself, the job was extremely suffocating. My peers and friends kept telling me that I will regret it. But feel really happy and I am more productive now, today was my joining date for another sales role in a big company but I didn't join...I know it would be tough to figure out what I can do next but I am happy with my decision.....

I decided about 15 years ago that I wasn't hitting my potential. I took a job with NYL and was showed my tiny cube and handed a phone book and told to start calling people. Sales WAS NOT or me. I am not a cold caller, a "wolf of wall street guy", a Gordon Gecko type a-hole. I understood most people live week to week and got out of it. I was miserable and hated calling people I didn't know. I am an operations manager on a steady salary providing people what they ASK FOR and am happy. For all you "conquer the world" types go for it. Its just not me. Sales is perfect for some. Sales is not for common people like me who understand most people are living check to check.

Thanks for sharing your perspective! Definitely not for everyone - this job was the worst form of sales because it was ONLY cold calling - dial, dial, dial, --- so burnout is common

Did you have a degree in anything? I’m currently a BDR and HATE making cold calls all day. I have a supply chain mngt degree but I got it 5 years ago and don’t have any supply chain experience. Would love to switch into operations but am worried my lack of experience will hinder my ability to get another job. I feel extremely trapped right now. I have 1 full year of sales experience now, worked for my family business prior

Dude - I love your attitude ! I've been in Sales for 2 Decades and I stayed at the exact same job for 13 months instead of 1 back in the day. Good for you to know your value. My advice to People new to Sales, only do jobs that require only Cold Calling for 1 year. Bust your ass and get big numbers, so you can use that success story to get to the next level. The first 2-5 Years of a Sales Career are really important. Then if you do well you can write your own ticket for better money & Work Life Balance. Go Cougs!!
