Why I'm Concerned for Wreckreation
Ойындар
With the announcement of Wreckreation, a new game from Three Fields Entertainment, I am very mixed on the game. On the one hand, it has interesting concepts that I always wanted to see in an arcade racer. On the other, it still seems to have a lot of issues that stem from TFE's past games. Here is why I'm concerned for Wreckreation.

I'm sorry about the bad quality of the Wreckreation gameplay videos. They were taken from livestreams, so they are very compressed!
Need these types of tracks with wreckfest physics. Dont know why anybody isnt making that it would be perfect
The tough part about making modern racing games is you have to be creative and take risks. Horizon 5 is soooo boring to me and many others because it’s the same recycled racing series year after year, you have to go big or go home
yeah, i find the lack of traffic is also concerning too, it's embarassing especially considering Burnout Legends on PSP can handle good amount of traffic cars in one of the least powerful piece of gaming hardware, whether it's normal races or the crash mode
I'm really curious about this game. I hope they fix all the strange stuff regarding the takedowns. This game has a lot of potential, and i'm hoping they show more footage soon. Great vid, Alex!
I fear they they are not gonna polish it. Super odd that the Devs never showed up for ANY of the 3 gamescom slots from Thursday to Sunday.
I agree totally. The gameplay video was very disappointing. The takedowns were about as lame as one could make them, and the empty road was just weird. They seriously need to get their act together as this is way behind Wreckfest or NFS.
Damage model should improve alot.
Another great video with well explained reasoning behind your thoughts! I have to agree that the gameplay has me a bit skeptical. I never played Dangerous Driving, but to me the main aspect of a racing game is the vehicle handling and physics model. The driving just looks very......odd? Almost inconsistent. You can hit a traffic car it seems and it has some weight to it, but then opponents just ricochet off of you like a pinball, or bumper cars. Also noticed that in one of the clips the car immediately stopped after landing from jumping pretty far and with good momentum. There's no reason it should do that. Nitpick I guess. The concept is cool, but I'm not sure what the core gameplay loop will look like, will there be progression? Unlock system? Is it freeroam with a party system where people can setup races and whatnot? Lots of potential here but at the same time if the physics feel poor, then the whole game is pointless. Enjoyed the video man :)
"building cool features around a broken code" perfectly describes how i feel about the game. It's probably gonna come out bad despite the concept being fun
Looks like similar issues as on Crashday, where they did already try a stunt related game with AI. And the AI could just not cope with the stunts, from what I see here I am worried that they might even remove the AI completely (as it looks erratic and random in the gameplay videos) and just make it a sandbox only multiplayer always-online game. Although it is allready a year later since this video, although the reveal trailer it still kinda looks the same as it does here.
The game still lacks the impact and aggression that the burnout games had.
at this point, I'd be happier with Burnout paradise mods. I'm currently playing it again and the way the buggy lurches into its suspension when taking hard turns and even pulling more wheelies when accelerating after an e-brake turn on downhills than uphills, the sense of speed, the feeling of just barely being out of control while being able to seamlessly drift a circle at what feels like 200+mph, all the secret paths and jumps you can find, and figuring out optimal paths through the city for different vehicle and boost styles, the game is near endlessly replayable... They couldve just made more cars and new cities and I'd buy it up
Has there been any updates on the game that you know of? It seems to have gone dead silent.

should be released this year for all I know, but yeah, Idk what their game is, it feels like we might had a better chance to see GTA VI being released than Wreckcreation is gonna be
I remember seeing this on the ps store and thinking it was a sequel to Wreckfest 😅
Even the 360 & PS3 could've handled these kinds of car damage but In the PS5 & current PC era It just pure laziness. To not have actual car damage where the whole car breaks apart with semi to full on. Even the PS2 hardware still holds up with Takedown, Revenge, Dominator where you can actually pancake your car if It crashes at high speed or hits buses/trucks.
I still fairly regularly play a couple of the original Burnouts and I quite like Dangerous Driving and have always been a bit puzzled by the venom directed at it (it's a small dev team without an EA-level budget folks, be reasonable with your expectations!). But Wreakreation, and what looks to be its focus, is almost certainly not for me. A DD sequel that sorted out the issues of the first one, with the modern gaming rarity of having both online *and* a splitscreen mode, developed on a budget that didn't require it to sell stupid amounts... now that could have been something a lot of people would be interested in. Fair play to the devs if they've made something that people end up buying and liking, but i just wanted to unrealistically drift and hammer laps around arcadey courses and settings 🤷♂
is there a discord seerver for this game?

There is! discord.com/invite/wreckreation
I feel like the developers spitting in my face with that game. They said dangerous driving 2 will come to the switch and will have splitscreen. But nothing like that. Also the other things like physics and damage model (from the things that I've seen) don't look good, imo. I'm really disappointed, even before i knew it wasn't going to release on the switch.
One of my grievances is that this game won't be coming to Switch. It looks like a concept I can definitely get behind. I can see why people are getting mixed feelings, however. The physics and driving look floaty, and collisions with traffic compared with rivals also seem inconsistent. I do want to give TFE some slack since they still have a lot of time to polish this game. But, I'll also go out of my way to say that, whoever is expecting an experience closely resembling the Burnout series... Don't. Just let it go. If not even the original developers can capture that same feeling again, I doubt anyone could replicate the entire package that made Burnout memorable. Personally, I'll see Wreckreation as its own thing, because to me, comparing it to Burnout seems unfair. And considering the potential Wreckreation has, it's a solid idea by itself.
What this game needs is a story line of some sort like Burnout or Wreckfest

That's exactly what this style of game DOESN'T need. Nothing worse than awkward and poorly written "characters" in racing games.
It would be pretty obvious why this game would have minimal to no traffic. You can literally build obstacles while racing. If there's a lot of traffic, you'll just have cars crashing left and right. Cars getting stuck on objects and so on. Streets flooded with car pile ups, all while you're trying to race and therefore, resulting in you, yourself crashing.

sounds sick hope they add it
I also have mixed feelings and I definitely agree with a lot of what you said. The good thing, however, is the fact that it doesn’t release until next year. Hopefully they see videos like this, and listen to feedback from the fans, and address some of the problems mentioned. It’s still early, and there’s plenty of time for them to improve, and I hope they do. I don’t want this game to be another mediocre, unpolished mess like Dangerous Driving was. This game has a lot of potential. The idea is brilliant, Burnout style gameplay set in Trackmania style tracks, it’s something I’ve wanted to see for a long time. I do have faith that they can pull it off, but that’s only if they listen to feedback and address these issues. If they do, then this could finally be the big return of Burnout we’ve all been waiting for. I’m rooting for you TFE, don’t disappoint!
My biggest concern overall, and most especially now with gameplay on the table, is it looks as though TFE is falling back into Criterion habits, and I'll probably not be the first to admit some of these design choices are wonky. My most largest concern overall is the Paradise-style AI that isn't very aggressive (outside of road rage instances primarily) and that they have annoying habits designed to basically let the player win. Just like Paradise they steer and drive right into traffic they have ample time and room to avoid and they do the same old slow down a certain distance from the finish line so the player can easily pass them. And it's not like these roads are traffic packed either, compared to even the original PAX 2020 footage of DD2 the density of the player's nearest vicinity is more than halved. On top of the janky physics with combat still looking like absolute garbage, there is noticeable snappiness and choppy looking physics bits. You can see at 2:12 the car crashes on purpose and really terribly snaps around the road instead of it being a smooth transition from one point to the next. I'll also say, I'm REALLY not a fan of the crash escape cameras, that even initiate if you still hit the car you're supposed to be dodging. (2:20) I feel like they null the entire intensity of the moment. I want to hope TFE could produce a nice product but as time passes I get more and more skeptical with this game. Also don't get your hopes up about the damage, far as I can see it's PS2-era GTA style part swaps. Not terrible by any means but surely something they should've been doing since the original Danger Zone, that also including the bumpers with flaps and detachability. I wish them the best but I hope they remember that headcount excuses a lack of content, not polish. Don't think I'd buy another one of their games again if this blows too, and even then, not sure I'll be buying this one yet.
If wreckreation game has a microtransaction upon pre order or final release of the game, then the interest will be gone and passion as well. And we're screwed including the game itself
@GamerAlexVideos

Doesn't seem like the game will have microtransactions, so I don't think we'll have to worry.
I don't want other vehicles to be air matrasses floating around nor all the other gimmicky animations etc. Personally I feel more and more devs try to reinvent the game every single time, instead of looking at what has worked, and improving on those concepts. You build your next success on your *_LAST._*
I really think this could entertain plenty of the Trackmania fans, but I kinda hope it doesn't overshadow Trackmania

Is Trackmania even popular enough to be "overshadowed?"
I’m somewhat hyped, but not so much at the same time. Edit: Looking back at it, I’m absolutely not into it. I’ll give it a try, but this looks extremely worrisome.
the main problems with dangerous driving were the awful physics combined with boring level design and it does not look like they improved them much how hard is it to just copy what works? all the burnout games by criterion have great handling and statisfying gameplay have you played the first burnout? it does basically everything better and it released over 15 years before dangerous driving

Unfortunately, arcade racing games nowadays are becoming way more niche and I don't think that $40 price tag is gonna get a lot of people back into the genre and I think Forza Horizon is the reason for that. As much as I consider Forza Horizon as simcade games leaning a bit of the arcade side, everyone else will think of these games as the standard of arcade racers and anything else that doesn't look nor play like Forza Horizon is just some cheap mobile game that's work like $5 to them and sadly, that's what this game gives off. It looks really cool but I don't think this game will attract a lot of attention, especially to those who are too addicted to Forza Horizon and those who will look at this and say, "Why play this when Trackmania exists? This is just Trackmania." and leave.

@@anotheryoutubeaccount5259 You got sources for their so called low budget? I wouldn't be surprised if they're getting lower budgets now but a couple years ago games were just not that good. You compare an old Need for speed let's say Most Wanted (2005) to Need for speed heat. Or what about Burnout 3 and Revenge to Burnout paradise/Dangerous Driving. I keep going back to these games because they were good arcade racers with satisfying and engaging physics and handling. I've played Assetto, Project Cars 1 and 2 and the Gran Turismo games with Upper tier wheel, pedals, and shifters. So I do also enjoy SIM racing titles. The developers who make these more modern AAA arcade racers keep striving for a Forza Horizon simcade approach that no one wants outside of Forza Horizon. Budget should be associated with content not gameplay.
Why I'm Concerned about KZreadrs
The game looks stiff and lacking. It needs better physics from all aspects of performance, crashing, and high speed crashes.
as a fan of the original burnout, i want a game less about crashing and more about dodging traffic. but since there is no traffic I'm not really interested. more people prefer the later burnout games but dangerous driving didn't even meet those expectations, it's unfortunate cause they got so much potential. they even seemed to be over overshadowed by THQs other racing game Stuntfest which looks like a way better game

Literally half the points that you Said are just $mb.... Like seriously... The cars feel weightless? Are you serious right now? Also, crashing into traffic on the right side of the road is like burnout revenge. 💯 Also, it's 2023 and it's close to August now and we will be able to see what's going down with wreckreation next month. 💯🔥😈
NOOOOO NOT FUCKING THQ....
Really hoping they delay an entire year. The features sound great, but the core gameplay and physics still look extremely bad. That needs to be completely reworked and I highly doubt that will have happened if it releases this year. Don‘t have my hopes up too high for this one, guess we‘ll have to stick with TM 2020, Wreckfest and the old Burnout games. Even Trail Out had much better physics than this…
