The "stories" is what made all racing games SHITE. All the racing games in the last years have these hipsters, alphabet people, gangstas, bs, festivals or whatever it is called, with this "subculture", a stupid map, where you can clck where to go to "race" and get "rep", "bank" or "heat" ... FFS ... And then you have tons of super cars right away, money thrown at you, get bombarded with stuff, more stuff, moaaaaaaaar All the while the actual racing aspect, and the sense of achievement is completely taken out. You should start racing with a shitty car, then just drive, maybe later you unlock better cars and so on. This way you feel that you achieved something.

IMO, the problem with the car combat genre today is that too many such games are focused on racing. You kind of alluded to this here when you talk about how putting guns in a racing game makes it too chaotic and distracts from the racing for a lot of people. The thing is, if you go back and look at the golden age of car combat in the late '90s and early '00s, you'll find that one of the big things that _Twisted Metal,_ _Vigilante 8,_ _Interstate '76,_ and other car combat games from that time had in common was that they _weren't_ racing games. They were shooters on wheels. You weren't trying to get to the finish line first, you were trying to be the last one standing. You don't see many people praising the racing levels in the 2012 _Twisted Metal_ reboot as the best parts of that game, is all I'm saying. The problem is, outside of open-world games like _Grand Theft Auto,_ these days lots of developers see "cars" and automatically think "racing game", so they try to shoehorn racing elements into these games even though this genre is called "car combat" rather than "combat racing". What's more, these days "racing game" usually means "racing sim", or at least "simcade" racers that maintain some level of realism, and that type of racing game suffers the most from trying to add combat elements. Like you said, the only kind of combat racing games that are consistently successful are kart racers, which throw realism to the wind and have most of the fun come from wacky hijinks and outrageous stunts. The kind of modern car combat game I'd love to see, and one that I believe could be successful, is one that takes less influence from _Need for Speed_ or _Gran Turismo_ and more from _War Thunder_ or _World of Tanks._ Swap out the military vehicles for lighter, faster civilian vehicles and make the gameplay more fast-paced, but otherwise, have the same combat-focused gameplay, including game modes more reminiscent of a shooter (deathmatch, capture the flag, et cetera) than a racing game. If you wanna have the larger-than-life drivers of the classic _Twisted Metal_ games, you could also throw in elements of a hero shooter in there.

The thing I think most people don't understand is that GRID wasn't just called GRID it was called Race Driver: GRID GRID: Autosport was not an out-of-the-blue rise in simulation handling for the game, it was basically trying to become ToCa 4.

If I could, I'd make my own spiritual successor to Need for Speed Underground, I'd even let you have a say on what it should be like! I want it to be easy to pick up and play, but not bland and repetitive! I might even license some songs from indie bands for the game's soundtrack! Such a game would be available for the Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast... and SNK's Neo Geo Pocket Color!

I know I'm a month late to the party, but I love fictional vehicles! It really allows the developers to go all out with their imagination. I LOVE the vehicles of Ridge Racer, in RR7 they even included some lore for each vehicle. And they even carry over fictional brands from each iteration. Like Kamata, Danver, Gnade and Assoluto. As an someone who's trying to make a game like Ridge Racer, I'm doing the same. Its so much fun to make vehicles unique, another fictional vehicle I absolutely love is the Quartz Regalia, square enix made some of the coolest vehicles like the Hardy Daytona and the Fenrir.

But later on when Blur came around I wanted to like it ..... but yeah.... in the end, it really comes down to "I enjoy the driving, not getting nuked by a blue shell before I come across the finishing line." Also you should've ended on "Have a N.I.C.E. Day" :D.

I just started playing Full Auto 2. Here's a tip I picked up from digital foundry: you can play the game at 720p with an improved frame rate if you go into your ps3s system settings and turn off 1080i and 1080p as display resolutions. Its quite smooth and I barely notice any significant frame drops.

Rather have Developers create racing games instead of listening to whining community. I don't want online multiplayer racing games, I don't want scripted actors in my racing games, nor a Story in my racing games, then you have online maps you don't know where to go to find any race. next you need to drive to a race what kind of crap is that?? this is a "Racing Game" not drive around a city leisurely looking for your buddies to race....I want the Original Formula back in NFS offline 2 player game with Cop's 2-8 lap racing. with : Hot pursuit, world Racing, Quick Race, Challenge, Championship, Circuit, Drifting, Drag Racing , Exotic locations, World Championship, Ultimate Racer a Real offline Arcade fun racing game. bring back the Hub for selecting car's and exotic locations.

@@GamerAlexVideos Giving a responsibility to KT Racing for reviving TDU is already a big mistake for Nacon since KT Racing never handover a open world racing games in their development history most of racing games that KT Racing developed was a closed track racing games and TDU itself has many complex mechanic heck KT Racing can't even put a basic mechanic on the game judging from the demo (House mechanic) Nacon should consider a another developer to develop the game in the first place rather then handing over anything to KT Racing and not to mention that KT Racing is a small scale developer
