I recently went with the Mau 44G2. The major selling point for me was the 4 cones on the top. Every column array I've used (and returned) was loud directly in front, but fell off dramatically a couple feet away. I was considering the evox 12 for years, but was always afraid of paying that much for a speaker and having the same problem. With the Maui's being over 7 feet tall the horns are over peoples heads and they through to the back of the dance floor.

I've owed all of popular column arrays (Evolve 50, RCF Evox12 & Evox8, LD Maui 44G2 and the LD Maui 900's). My favorite of them all is probably the Evox12. But I sold them all opting for the QSC LA 108 Line Array Speakers paired with either the QSC KS112 or KS118 subwoofers. It gives me a lot more flexibility and lots of headroom, which I was missing with all of the column array systems. It is also super easy to setup and configure. It has an incredible DSP that does everything for you. The sound is amazing and I'm never lacking power.

I definitely believe that's an amazing system, I really like QSC stuff, but that is definitely a lot more work than a column array! It's probably as easy as it can be

Great topic Daryl! I used to own a pair of RCF J8-s, but these were too noisy for me - they were rather noisy on high volumes and the bass was not good with the plastic cabinets of the subs. Then I moved on to HK Polar 12-s: these were a bit better, as their subs were made of wooden cabinets and the bass was wayyyy better. But still, the same issue with sound: noisy on high volumes, not good for outdoor events were mics were used (as these column arrays are small, they do not provide enough pressure in outdoor and sometimes even indoor scenarios). Also, I had the same issue with all them as you had with your car: I had to always consider before EVERY event, if I can use them or are they powerful enough. I had many gigs with even 50 people were I felt that the column array is just not sufficient. They are made for small rooms - to be honest, Polar 12-s were perfect for my living room with 30 sqm and on mid volumes. And the clarity of sound just s*cked. You need something more universal and bulletproof. Forget about the "aesthetics". Speakers are speakers and people are used to them. Usually these are not speakers that look ugly, but the cabling, lighting setup, DJ booth etc. So it's better to stick to that principle and make the setup look professional overall. In the end of last year, I decided to sell all my columns and get back to "good old" sub + top setup using RCF ART-9-AX + RCF SUB 905 AS mk3 (pretty darn powerful 15" subs, also lightweight to carry around). I won't look back to any column array in a near future, whatever these marketers or reviews say about them. And all I can say is that in 99% I never doubt about my sound system for events, only sometimes with bands where they need a little bit more low end - then I'll just rent 18" subs for these couple events a year. And oh boy - there is a big difference between traditional system vs columns - much more clarity, head room, better sound for mics etc. Also, you can use them modularly - like just one top sometimes for a monitor application or whatever. At the end of the day, column arrays are not good for everyday professional life - why to keep stuff in my warehouse that is not sufficient or I have doubts in? Or that sometimes give me disappointments at events? Column array is a fashion product and I believe that trend will be over soon. Classic top+sub is here to stay - invest into one good setup and you are good to go for another 10 years at least.

@@DJDarylBennett my dream is to get Martin Audio Blackline X setup some day :) A bit pricy but I know that Martin Audio can provide unmatched quality for the next 20 years... had many gigs with some SUPER OLD Martin Audio. Last weekend I played at a club for 1000 ppl with Martin Audio that had been there for the last 20 years! And that sound was like these speakers were made just this year :) The reason I got also RCF this year is that I can use the tops also for side fills (they have built in delay) and also they have built in cross over presets (+ I can make them myself) for subs. The top speaker that never distorts and can properly crossover frequencies between the sub and itself is just fundamentally the best solution I think.

Congrats on snagging the Evox 12’s! It's always exciting to hear about fellow DJs finding gear that they're really happy with. The Evox 12s are definitely solid speakers, I love mine, and it's awesome to hear that you chose them over the Maui LD 44s It's interesting that comments mentioned the LD 44s and Point source speakers. Sound preference can be so subjective, right? But yeah, those LD 44 subwoofers can be beasts to haul around, so totally get why you opted for something more manageable. And regarding the comments about point source speakers, it's worth checking out different perspectives. Sometimes it's surprising what you can learn from others' experiences. But hey, if the Evox 12s are delivering the volume you need and then some, that's what matters most! Keep rocking those sets, and thanks for sharing your insights! 🎧🎶

For voices and overall rendering the 10 inch is superior for SPL. I'm selling the ELX200 tops and EV subs and I ordered 2 Yamaha DZR15 and 2 Yamaha DZR12 wich output an incredible 139db SPL ! I'll wait before buying a sub, because I might not need them for the kind of music we do.

Congrats on your purchase - Evox 12s are really nice. I went from QSCs 12.2/KS118 (still have those speakers for bigger event), got the RCF J8s (easy to transport but quickly out grew them - sold them), got the RCF Evox 12s. Then last year, I came across a great deal on a pair of 44g2 (in white - thanks to AGI DJ Pro). After using both for almost a year - I sold the Evox 12s and kept the 44s. I just liked the full range tuning of the 44g2s a bit better (got tons of compliments from my clients because of the esthetic and sound). But I agree with you - both are great. I do however miss how much easier it was to transport the Evox 12s.

I was lucky to get these a few years when they came out. Got them as “open box” and i saved like $1.5K. Back then both were about $5k now they’re about $6.5k so i got very lucky. If you guys are interested in a pair, i totally recommend them. Also, look around to see if you can find an open box somewhere and save some money.

iI love my RCF speakers; the model I have is the 12, and they produce excellent sound. Nobody asks me if I need louder music, even when entertaining 150 people. They are easy to transport. However, if you're a wedding DJ for 300-400 people, then you'll need a larger system. Additionally, the venue where you play is important. If it's a huge hall with fewer people and high walls, it can present a problem. Another good thing is, as you mentioned, you can direct the speakers towards the dance floor, while the other people who prefer not to dance and simply sit and talk can still enjoy the music.

Great video Daryl! I went with the Maui 44G2's but my business partner has the Evox12's. I found that the Maui 44 is a very very small amount louder w/ deeper bass due to the much larger sub cab. The upper highs are a little more pronounced because it has the (4) mini horns, whereas the RCF is just 8 full range drivers on top. RCF feels like it is less fragile and you can push it harder without it breaking and it is much more portable. Even though it is only a 20lb difference on the sub, the Maui sub is bulky (can be made easier with the optional caster kit). For small gigs, I still break out the Evox 8 or Evolve 50's and for larger events/big rooms I use DB IG4T tops over RCF8004 subs

RCF evox 12 sub has the same output as the RCF 705 sub. That’s their entry level sub, it’s pretty weak. Quite frankly it is possible to achieve the same output with a good 12 inch sub. As you said, the Maui 44 g2 simply puts out more sound. I really do think that RCF should put out a new evox 12 mk2. Especially considering that their new solution (TT 515 & TTS 808) are way more expensive but deliver even less sound than the evox 12.

Would I make a different decision if I had to do it again with the 44’s… the answer, yea - I should have gotten the RCA… only because - I’ve had issues with height on different spaces. … good luck though - great choice

@@DJDarylBennett I hear you. But in reality it's just 2 speaker stands, throw the speakers on top...and place a sub on the floor in the middle. takes me about 60 seconds. And 2 JBL srx and 1 18" sub is going to blow away any column array

@@rjpimprov Not always sometimes you get the odd lead that doesn't work then you need to find a short one to replace it (sup to tops) or go with a long one if that's all you have more Leeds & carrying space needed etc. with a column array you just plug 2 xlr's left and right and if you think about it the columns are like sticking 2 poles in subs after that you don't need to go and get your point source speakers it is quicker for most people you may have it down pat with a full point source set up.

150 or less people, it is more than worth it unless you are doing big parties. Then no column array will touch point source and a sub

@@Pioneervalleydjs I just did an event with 150. Was it deafening? Not at all. Did it get the job done with compliments? Definitely. But, I built a 6 inch platform with 2x6 so that the speakers can go over people's head. I do a weekly event with 1 speaker for 80 people. No complain

Hey @DJDaryllBennett, This is a rather unorthodox way to reach out, but im new to SLC and have been involved in the Mobile DJ world for many many years. I've been watching your videos, and i love the way you operate your company. If you're ever in need of extra DJ's or anyone to help out with lighting, and/or video, I'd love to talk, and send you my resume to see if we would be a good fit. Thanks so much! Looking forward to hearing back. -Bryton
