I used my pair of Evolve 30Ms for a folk trio gig with 200 people and they sounded great. The wide sound dispersion was a real bonus and we didn't need any stage monitors. We had barely any feedback issues. I was initially a bit confused as to why the second speaker had no volume but then everything was sorted after I realised that the master volume of the second unit was inadvertently turned down by yours truly!

The L1 Pro 16 is more comparable to Jmix 8, Evolve 50M, Evolve 50 and PRX1. It's considerably more expensive than an Evolve 30M in Australia and is the next step up from what is already an awesome sounding, compact and lightweight system in the 30M.

Something I forgot to add in my previous comment that you may not have consider the eon has subwoofer output and the necessary crossovers to make it work

  • @13bcoffee
    @13bcoffee Жыл бұрын

I got the RCF J8 when it first came out for only $900 each. I thought that was expensive but now they have gone up. The Jmix is the same but it has a mixer section. These are good for weddings and parties for up to 100 people, maybe 150. At my weddings there is often a small dance area and that's mostly what I need to cover for dancing. But for announcements and toast they cover far more than that. The 12 inch woofers are the smallest a DJ should go. In my case I also add a small subwoofer since I play hip hop and bass heavy dance music. It's not required but it helps a lot. You can also just use one pole (it comes with two poles that connect) and shorten the height of the setup. This might come in handy if you are playing high up on a stage and don't need a lot of height. The ability to adjust height was the sealed the deal for me over the EV 50M. Also as was pointed out none of these systems are for big 300 person crowds although I would love to see what 4 of these could do in a room. I kept my JBL tops and two subs so I could bring all of this to a larger event if needed.

Great review. Thanks. I'm interested in the JBL MK2 since I do some busking (acoustic guitar and vocal) as well as weddings and smaller club gigs. I'm a bit concerned about the digital mixer, and trying to run that from my Ipad. I'm old school, in that I like real buttons and knobs to adjust my sound. I'm wondering if you have any experience with the JBL app and how easy it is to run on bluetooth. Thanks again.

@@AaronStrawn Hi Aaron. Thanks for your reply. Just curious, why do you say it’s not a wedding reception speaker? I actually just played at a wedding this past Saturday and hooked up my acoustic amp through the DJ’s older version of the Mk2, the Eon pro, and it impressed me so much I thought I’d start doing some research on it. There were about 150 people out on the lawn and it seemed to cover pretty well. I was just background music, so it wasn’t a matter of high decibel sound.

@@AaronStrawn how does the overall 'sound' of the Eon One Mark 2 compare to the Evolve 30M if the JBLs are being run on mains power? I must say that I'm very impressed with the overall quality of the sound of the Evolve 30M considering its compact size and weight. Needless to say that something with a bigger sub and higher SPL will be better for larger events but IMHO two Evolve 30Ms would be fine for any function up to 200 people in a small to medium sized venue. I'm looking forward to trying them out in this scenario. Keep up the great work buddy.

From a musicians standpoint and being very picky about sound quality, I bought the Jmix8, and what fantastic sounding system. Using a UA interface with high quality backing tracks, my vocals, etc., I've filled large outdoor events with plenty of volume. Bass, mids, and high end are all well balanced, couldn't be happier. Agree, a little lighter would be nice, but with this quality, I accept it. A trick to make the Jmix8 lighter to move; take out the array speaker column from the back of the sub cabinet, it's 6 lbs lighter. :)

Do you think it’s worth it to get a pair of the EV 12 inch subs since I already have a 15? Would that essentially be like taking my 15 and more work involved with setup? Also, weight is a factor. The 12 inch EV sub is 42 pounds vs the RCF J8 being 54. I’m getting older so prefer as light of a system as possible.

Hi Aaron, Just saying hi , I’m just going to ask a quick question cause I’m going to see the RCF evox J 8 mix and theEv 50 M column arrays speakers today at Clearwater . You mentioned that the RCF j8M ‘s app was “ whack “ and I was wondering if you meant it was good or Bad in using it ., Or is the Ev app better or not . After watching all your videos, I’m still 50-50 on whether to get the RCF J 8 M or the EV M50…system??? . Thanks for all your reviews and inputs and Humor . I love them 👍☘️

So much, Aaron, getting back to me. I did go to Sweetwater on Monday and they gave me a thorough comparison between the RCFJ8M and the EV evolve 50 M , but we all seem to think that the EV had a clearer sound specially on the top end, more crisp. They gave me a terrific deal on them so I purchased them, but I do have 30 days to return them. If they don’t suit me., And hopefully the App isn’t “ whack”😂👍 I’ll be watching all your videos…I love them ☘️ Kieran

I think you can just ignore the mixer on all of them and consider just sound quality - thats what matters the most for your CLIENT. Mixer can be bought separately, for example Yamaha MG series which is great and has different models with different number of channels and effects etc. Those built-in mixer are fine but in my opinion, they also suck because they are cheap and adding some extra layer between the speaker and the source. I always connect my DJ console directly to the speaker or put my Yamaha MG10XU in between for more mics. And with JMIX8, the sound level can go wayyyyy more higher if the mixer is turned off, idk why is that. Those built-in mixers are ok for wedding ceremonies but for the dancefloor, I would never use them.

@@AaronStrawn I don’t know about clunky. The sound processor is definitely far too advanced for me. I wish they had a “lite” version of the app with simple presets rather than pages and pages of settings. But once you set it just right, they sound absolutely amazing. Better than the Pro16 (I didn’t try the pro32). To my ears anyways. I love them. The best “all round” speakers I have ever used. For larger gigs I also have Bose F1 812’s and a pair of the new Sub2’s. The Sub2’s are a fantastic addition to the PRX if you need extra deep bases, you can use the built-in HPF to only send >150hz to the PRX and that gives you an extra ~3db of clean mid/highs headroom on the PRX! Anyways I’m sure you knew all this already lol. Great channel by the way. Your videos are top notch and very polished. But you should stop using a wide angle for your studio vlogs. Unless you like that cartoonish look (big nose-little ears). Use a 50mm lens like Spinelli or even better a 85mm like the real pros. Your videos will look much more “pro” (I’m a pro headshot photographer).

Personally hate speakers with mixers built in. All that money spent on the mixer should ave gob=ne into the "SOUND quality" not the mix. I bet majority of users use a mixer then feed the speaker with signal - I could be wrong.

I personally have used the mixer feature many times. I comes in handy having an all-in-one, but for sure there are drawbacks

The Portable Line Arrays are build for Portable and quick use, What's the point of having a Portable Line array if they are bulky and heavy just like an ordinary PA system? I'd rather bring a OG PA system than a Portable Line Array that is heavy and will stress my arms if I carry them on my gig? JBL Line array is build that way not for comparison of loudness.. It's Portable right? if Portable then you are expecting 100 to150 pax not 200 and above.. That's so nonsense to me. Those Line array except for the JBL Mk2 are just rubbish to me even they are louder I will not bring them to my Gig because you can't make them portable like putting their line arrays inside the sub to carry them in one hand and its like having a extra stand to carry and that's annoying.. Sound Quality JBL for me, I never heard anything as clean and quality, Yes the two other brand line arrays are louder just because they are not portable and they are basically large PA.

2 point source mains and one 15-18 inch sub and various combinations of them will do 90% of all gigs. Djs waste their money non stop

I think if you are doing over 30 events a year, the portability of these columns and the looks of them have an advantage too

@@AaronStrawn I hear you. They have a place for really small events if you don’t need to crank them. But I can’t justify the money. Had the 50s, sold them right away
