Gruyère cheese is a component of a classic Swiss fondue, along with European dishes like quiche and croque monsieur. The cheese has a long heritage. Records of cheesemaking go back to the 12th century in this region. Today, 30,000 tons of Gruyere are produced here each year.

    I once went on a school holiday in 1982. We visited this cheese place and when offered nobody else wanted to try it. I did and it was amazing,I still remember it now.Loved it. The cheese-maker was impressed with my enjoyment and shook my hand. It was the best stuff they had and I have not had the same ever since.Happy memories. : )

    As a Swiss living in Switzerland I can concur this video is correct. It's absolutely necessary to use gruyère to make a good fondue as the main cheese choice then you can add some Appenzeller and a little bit of Emmentaler. (And don't forget the kirsch!)

    I put 4 different cheeses in my Mac and cheese casserole, and gruyere is one of them. It’s so DELICIOUS. I’ve made it a habit to keep a block of gruyere cheese in my fridge. It tastes great on anything.😋

    I visited gruyere back in 2016, it was really nice, especially the castle of top of it and the cheese fondue with baby hard boiled potatoes 👌

    Luke Johnson made it last weekend. Sooooo good!! Just make a roux and add the guyere for a mornay sauce, then dump in the pasta. Its awesome

    I just tasted gruyere for the first time, 12-month aged. I guess that's what people mean when they say nutty. Has some fruity notes to it. Very different than the cheeses I usually eat, but it's very nice.

    What kind of a restaurant hires tattooed people as chefs??? That is disgraceful ! I would never eat at any supposed highly valued restaurant with tattooed workers. No heavily tattooed people should be chefs, it's absolutely disgraceful and non-presentable for such a line of work !

    I recently used this to make scalloped potatoes for a family dinner. They were a hit. I tasted the cheese alone later and found it to be delicious, albeit very expensive here.

    I lived there until I was 6 years old in the Gruyeres village (the original town where they make it) and nearly the whole village smelled like Gruyeres cheese

    i am new to this cheese. its very delicious and addicting. i like the fact that its made from raw milk grass fed cows. very healthy cheese imho

    Never heard of this type of cheese till I came a cross a recipe for 5 cheese Mac & Cheese in a slow cooker recipe book... it's the only mac&cheese I eat now lol

    moitié moitié is a fondue with half gruyere and another cheese. I live in the region. love my tiny country 💙

    You don't want to know what part of everything you eat every day someone has touched with their bare hands at some point, unless you only eat industrially manufactured things. Okay, they're definitely healthier then. Just for info, we have clean(!) water, soap, disinfectant for hand cleaning.
