God could change you in an instant so you would never sin again. So why doesn’t he make us completely holy now?

This message reminds me of Manna from Heaven. Manna gets old real fast within the day so the Israelites had to rely on God for new Manna to feast on every single day.

Jeremiah Gallo Amen! I agree! Exodus 16:15-18 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it according to each one’s need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.’ ” Then the children of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less. So when they measured it by omers, he who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack. Every man had gathered according to each one’s need. The Lord also reminds us to ask for His bread daily to feed our spirits.. (Matthew 6:9-13). And.. Jesus is the bread of life accdg to John 1.

Jeremiah Gallo Definitely a great correlation! When they tried to store up the manna aka “God’s Provision” , it started to rot. We must depend on Him day to day and not rely on our prior knowledge, grace, mercies and experiences. Sometimes it’s a painful process and we don’t understand why, but this is where trust comes in. 💕😊 To God be the Glory...

Amen because man has a natural tendency to rely on ourselves and our own work. Instead of allowing the Lord to be our Shepard and we SHALL not want(be in need of), for he will supply all of our needs!

Personally God led me to fast and pray for 3 days. Immediately at the conclusion of it, he brought on an inner cleansing process. The process was Spiritual and physical, which involved a constant bringing up of mucus. That process would go on for a while every day, as he initiated it.

I've been a Christian for a couple of decades, and this is something I had missed. I've listened to this a half dozen times since yesterday, and it makes me cry. I'm tempted to dwell on how much I've missed and how I've missed the mark. Lord help me keep the past where it belongs. A couple of weeks ago my elder spoke to me from Romans 6. It's been on my heart since. I had just read that chapter, but it stood out and also moved me deeply. Over the past year or so my pastor and elders, and Piper, and MacArthur, and Sproul, and so many others, and most of all the Holy Spirit, have rattled my cage. I feel as if I am awaking from a sleep. The phrase from Romans 6 that keeps coming back is "walk in newness of life". It's like I've been a spiritual zombie, walking around dead in Christ, but not alive in Him. Lord Jesus, raise us to walk in newness of life. I pray for all my brothers and sisters, help us walk in newness of life. Amen.

Gerry, I have had the same experience. Despite praying, reading my Bible, learning and doing good works, I've felt the same way for about three years. Somehow, despite all that spiritual activity I have been like a zombie. I watched Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe yesterday. The biblical imagery kept hitting as I watched it, and then the scene where Aslan sacrifices himself for the crimes of Edward opened my eyes. I had forgot why I even did those spiritual things. I forgot about the crucifixion, Jesus's death. All for my sins. Edward is traitorous coward, and a twerp, but Aslan dies for him just like Jesus died for me.

This was a message I didn't realize when I was younger. I vividly remember where I was when I was feeling in such an elevated place with God and thought "I found the sweet spot- I've made it" no joke. And once I went through trials later on I was so confused and felt like a failure as a Christian. This is seriously such an important message and one that needs to be discussed more! Day by day we are made more like Christ. The journey doesn't end until we meet him face to face. Until then, we must pick up our cross daily!

I have to say thank you to you! And to God! I have been struggling! I am a new christian, from an atheist upbringing. I have been struggling with why don't I feel illuminated?! Why am I still sinning?! What is wrong with me? Why doesn't God want to be close to me?! I expected to feel whole and fulfilled and saved completely, made into a new person immediately. I read and read in the Bible that as a new person in Christ I was supposed to be changed. I thought the Holy Spirit was supposed to immediately indwell in me and fix me! Thank you, I had begun to doubt my belief. Thought maybe I wasn't really saved. I see the light peaking through now. Please pray that I can further understand and find the joy in God that you have 🙏

Somehow the message of the sanctification of the believer isn't mentioned when the gospel of salvation/justification is preached and that new believer trusts in the Lord Jesus Christ, is born from above by the Holy Spirit and that Spirit comes to abide in him/her --- for one most important reason: to begin and begin the process of sanctification conforming each one to the image of Christ by the Word of God. And when that new believer realizes that he/she did not "shed" the old nature instantly, there is confusion and frustration as I experienced (Paul's Roman 7 experience and mine). As Brother John preaches - if it was instant, we would be heady, high-minded, and arrogant. But He begins to transform us and doesn't stop until we are in the presence of our Savior. It is God's plan, and He upholds us while the process is completed. God's plan has no fault!

What you are saying is Justification is by faith but sanctification is by works. What about 1 Corinthians 1:30? Jesus Christ is not only our redemption, he is also our sanctification. Or 2 Colossians 6 In the same way that you recieved him so walk in him Or Romans 14 23 Everything that doesnt come from faith is sin This guy John Piper is just doing what so many so called teachers do and teach from their own logic which is based on their own defeatist experience instead of the word of god revealed by the holy spirit. No wonder new christians are coming down from the heights of a wonderful walk with Jesus if they are being told its inevitable by people like this guy Every once in a while throughout history there have been people that live exeptional lives in God and have been clothed with the holy spirit. These are the people that choose to not listen to such teaching as this and instead heed the word of GOD!

Thank you for this eloquently worded message. I'm here watching this video, because I'm wrestling my sinful lust, and have, in my eyes recently backslid to my temptations once again. It pains me, when at times, I can know and feel God, and his love so clearly, yet other times I find myself torn to my earthly desires. I'm praying for strength, courage, persistence, perseverance, and self control, that I may better walk in faith, and not as the world. In these instances it begs me to wonder if I've truly been redeemed, because I am failing in those instances to walk in his Truth. However, these words and video have shown me that I have been redeemed and justified, but I must persevere against my worldly desire if I am to be sanctified. God bless, please pray for me! (Though this is a selfish request, when there are those that are still lost).

God is so gentle and careful. If we were changed instantly, we would shatter and be destroyed. God works patiently and thoroughly, never giving us more than we can bear. He doesn't leave us, but stays with us as we learn like a child who grows and learns many years before graduating. We should enjoy God every day while he works with us ever so gently. The moment we are saved is like the first day when we are admitted to the school having seen the value of applying to it in the first place, but then it takes years of practice and learning from the Spirit before graduation. The walk with God is the point, the relationship is what he wants. The Spirit is the first of the promised gifts. We know we can trust that in the last day we will be transformed and then, given our graduation robes of perfection.

I was once blind but now I see. I mean, if you live in constant/willing sin and not in a state of repentance and just say “it’s no problem, I was saved when I was 12, I’m good” then yes, you can lose your salvation

Ritch....you cannot lose your salvation because nobody can follow Jesus unless the Father grants them repentance so we know that God is the one who does the saving....not us (2 Timothy 2:25). You cannot unborn something that is born of the Spirit. I know what you mean because I know the argument. But to those people who profess to be saved yet live in constant sin and show no spiritual fruit I have this verse for them; 1 John 2:19 "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us."

Ritch Caraway we would say they never had saving faith in the first place. To use Jesus own words, they were seed sown on bad soil, they may have had faith for a while but it wasn't out of a new heart. Or like first John says "they went out from us to show they were not of us" Hope this helps you understand our perspective. It is possible to "believe" for a while and fall away, think of the crowds in Jesus day or even Judas.. but if one falls away never to return you can be sure the at they were not born again.. because if they were the Holy Spirit would bring repentance at some point.

It is possible for someone to lose their salvation. (Matthew 18:23-35) When Jesus speaks about the unforgiving servant, notice the servant had his fellow servant jailed after he was forgiven. And that when Jesus says the Father will do to each of you who doesn't forgive, he is speaking to Peter and the disciples. Revelation 3:5 also mentions He will never erase his name from the book of life. There's no need to erase or blot out something that was never there to begin with. Also look at Ezekiel 18:24-29. I'm not saying that one can lose it easily, just that it is possible.

Frank - There's a huge difference between living as someone who has been saved for eternity and knows deep inside he belongs to Jesus and living as someone who walks on eggs all his life wondering if he's gonna screw up. Where do we draw the "no return" line? If the latter is true, then Jesus lied when He said; "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me and I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand" Who is this group of people?

A glaring problem I have experienced with my fellow Christians is that they do not want to hear this. If you say, "I am struggling today," there is a very strong chance that you will be rebuked by another Christian for either "not having faith" or for "sinning". Well, that might be true, but the admonitions do not go to the heart of the matter; and the heart of the matter is that struggling is not abnormal for a follower of Jesus. It is far, far better to know this than to bang your head and heart against a stone.

I needed to hear this message cuz I was like Lord remove the fear, remove the anxiety, I don't like struggling, and the biggest one for me is about him coming back and there's anxiety their what I realize is that he's draw me close to trust him in this process of sanctification. That is not about me but it's just finished work of Jesus Christ and I can trust him where it says he that began the work will also bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. God bless you John Piper God bless you man

Emmanuel Everett dude I needed that so much. I feel like I’m losing my mind because I’m not perfect and it scares me to death. It feels like I’m doing something wrong or I’m not saved. Something I’ve learned also is that don’t believe every KZread comment where people are acting sinless. It will break you down.

This and Phil 1:6 is keeping me; I am a new creation and I have to get this through my head. I am not what happened to me because Jesus saved me from it. All the ick and sin are possibly because I’m a Saint and a Child of God.
