Another problem with playing hard to get is that it drives away people kind and understanding enough to take signs of disinterest as a reason to move on and not be a pain. It also makes that trait less common leading to more people continuing to bother those who are not interested under the impression that the annoyed individual is playing hard to get.

I met a guy I really liked. We were friends for a while and I decided to just ask him out, be honest about being into him. He turned me down. I said that was cool and we went back to being friends and everything was fine. UNTIL I met someone else and started dating him. Then suddenly this friend of mine was into me. I'd asked him out too soon, he wasn't ready for a relationship at the time, blah blah blah. Somehow I ended up being the one who hurt him all because I was upfront and honest. Over a year later I'm still vaguely friends with him (there wasn't a lot of drama, just many unsaid words that can make hanging out a little awkward) and still in my relationship. Don't waste time playing games.

finally, I always feel conscious about being honest about my feelings. Boys can't be the only one saying sorry all the time. And boys can't be the only one giving gifts to girls. Just think about it. Unfair, right? Well there are guys who don't like straight or direct gals cause to them, it ruins their ego as a male While other guys(especially the shy ones) are attracted to direct girls or if not, gets more motivated and falls for the girl more since they know they now have a high chance to be with the girl and wouldn't be so tired to the girl because she isn't hard to get. I used to have an MU (MU means mutual understanding. definition of two people knows they like each other but not in a relationship) I told him I wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend yet since my dad doesn't want to. He wants me to finish my studies 1st. 2 months have passed and I have grown tired of being in an MU relationship with him because we acted as if we are already in an actual relationship. I stopped playing hard to get, broke my dad's rules.. My old MU became my BF after that. (｡･ω･｡) just thought of sharing how I feel

Inviting somebody to dinner is not really saying you "want" them, it doesn't have to imply anything that extreme, only the bare minimum to indicate a desire to date / romantic interest for now, pending successful dating. Maybe thinking about it that way makes it a bit easier? I don't know, I'm so jaded at this point with initial asks that I don't really remember what it was like to be super nervous about it, so might not be helpful.

Girls of course you can, set aside the guys with super buff bodies who daily pick up girls ,guys have the same problems. Girls if you think a guy could be interesting and he hasent done anything yet...just bump into him, apologize and slide your hand from the album and to his hand (or shoulder to album) and ask if you could buy him a coffe to apologize. The problem is its difficult to differentiate between a woman playing hard to get and a woman who’s not interested. So I just stop trying the very first time she acts disinterested or says openly (or if I suspect she’s uncomfortable). It’s better not to be a creep than to miss out on a girl who’s interested but acting hard to get.

The only guys you're going to get playing hard to get are the kind who can't take no for an answer. What's the colloquial term for that?

women, u can't play hard to get anymore if you're into the guy. today men are getting charged with sexual misconduct even after having "consent". the simple fact that a woman admires u could make things not really consensual. so if a woman plays hard to get, i'll just say "ok bye" and move on instead of continue to pursue and then later be told that since she didn't immediately accepted my attempts that means it should've been obvious that she wasn't interested and therefore i harassed her. no thank u, not worth it

Because being rejected isn't that terrible in the scope of things, you would never "what if" and someone who treats you weirdly after a situation like that isn't really someone worth keeping around. People have/had feelings. It happens. It's a part of life. Letting get that in the way of meaningful friendships or life is unnecessary.

Thay happened except I was ready to tell him genuinely and the covid happened and we graduated to college and never got to see each other and I even tried to get his number from someone and they didn't have it , I tried so much *sigh*

Reasons why you should not playing to be "hard to get" : - It's showing a fake part of your personality - You'll be important only for who want something that other haven't (like a trophy or any other valuable OBJECT) - You'r wasting time that you could spend with the person you love - It's sometimes a risk to lose someone that really cared about you - You miss the opportunity to be happier to get what you want too etc, etc . . . . Totally agree. Dishonesty is a bad way to start any relationship and it certainly wont maintain one. I love when girls are direct. Its refreshing. I was once asked out by two girls at the same time on the subway. My mouth droped! I was interrupted by an emergency before I could take advantage of the oportunity. I was in that city temporarly and that kind of stuff happens to guys more often there than anywhere else in the country, to my knowledge. ( It was in Porto, in Portugal. I didn't play games, I just simply didn't even give them a shot. When the man I did want appeared in my life, I let him know I wanted him in my life and wanted to be part of his. He is my husband now and I love him more and more everyday :3

I have to say THANK YOU!!! I can't stand girls who play all these games and keep making me claw after them. Usually if it happens I just drop them.
