@@tonychapman5753 Same here! I don't chase women either, especially when you find out she's leading you on or just using you. It would be much simpler if women would be more open about thier interest in a guy and ask him out. These females love to talk about 'liberation' and their dislike of 'traditional gender roles' but they still want men to perform thier 'traditional gender role' and do the asking-- and paying-- for dates. The want 'equal treatment' but not equal responsibilty.

It’s a date, not a wedding proposal. You can ask em out, & then tell em u want to take things slow. Casual with no commitment or expectations until the next discussion. Further, u don’t ever have to commit. Poly and/or open aren’t my thing, but people do make those choices. Idgi, but if ur afraid of commitment you could always try it.

Coded Sky best way to play it off is to say; hey it's all right, take it as a compliment and have an awesome day! Or when they hit you with the boyfriend line, since you wanna play it cool whether she lied or told the truth just say; Oh sorry, well he's a lucky guy that's for sure, i wish you guys the best, have a great day! By playing it so cool and relaxed they're kept wondering if perhaps they should've said yes like; that guy handled it like a pro, he was really nice about it too...maybe he's cooler than i thought at first? Just think to yourself: As soon as you say "hi" you won. Whether she says yes or no. If she says yes then getting her number is just a BONUS to your approach. Going on dates and so forth is just a BONUS to you approaching her. Don't misinterpret this btw, it's just a way to completely take away any fear of rejection by having this mentality before approaching. You're thinking you win by saying hi, so walking over and doing so already makes you a winner. She said no? You still won. She said yes? Well that's a bonus to you already winning.

lee yang If you were to choose between your average joe and you're equally-wealthy average joe who's a bit better looking (ignoring personality for arguments sake), its a pretty simple choice for both genders. But in the end I don't like generalizing this much. Hookups are based on physical traits but lasting relationships are of course more situational. In the end though, everyone likes eye-candy. If you don't believe me look up some buzzfeed videos with naked men and look at the comments.

If a cute girl asked me out I would need a very good reason to say no because that kind of open desire is as hot as it gets. Even if they stammer and mumble through every word, that would be endearing in its own right because it shows that they are willing to step out of their comfort zone to get me...best compliment ever. Guys...If a girl asks you out, give her a shot...not a commitment...not a week or a month...just a cup of coffee...get to know her and see how she makes you feel. Worst case, you can both have a good conversation and build up each other's confidence before leaving to find other fish in the sea. Best case...She blows you away with her awesome personality and her choice to ask you out becomes the best thing that ever happened to you.

+Francisco Ramirez Not to mention that this kind of games is typically futile (for a man). If a woman plays those, more often than not she just loves mens attention and would do it pretty much with everyone. Of course, it typically goes nowhere or ends with a 1 night stand at very best. If a woman likes a man, she normally makes it clear one way or another. Even if she's shy - it just will be done in a different manner, but still pretty openly.

@OP ... Actually, I think your point is solid. Which is why I don't quite take this concept as far as Anna does. I wouldn't recommend that girls ask guys out straight up like that... But I definitely do believe that girls should be deliberate and intentional about sending guys signals that you are open to an approach. Without signals from the girl, good guys who are genuinely concerned about not disturbing you if you aren't in the mood... Those guys will stay away, or just be platonic with you. Guys that don't care about you will approach regardless. So no signals = lots of approaches by dbags. Signals = more approaches by kind men. Note: signals are all about differential behavior. E.g. some girls are flirty with everyone... And some girls are shy with everyone. To successfully send signals, you must have noticeably different interactions with the guy you like than with guys you don't like... And those interactions need to be romantic or physical enough not to be confused with you liking a guy as a friend. You are aimed at communication clearly that this particular guy is "attractive" to you. Nut just funny, or smart, etc. Good luck!

I was teaching at a girls high school (so many stories). Every year there was a “Sadie Hawkins” Dance. That was when the girls had to ask the guy to be their date. The ladies already in a relationship found it fairly easy to ask their SO. The other girls not so much. Every year I was teaching there it was mildly amusing to watch the girls strategize and then try to work up the courage to ask a guy out. On several occasions they would ask a classmate if it would be ok to ask her brother, if all other attempts failed. I would use this as a Social Studies teaching moment. I would note how difficult it was to challenge established mores. This was in the late ‘70’s (I taught for 35 years) In a similar vein I overheard young women tell stories, that their Moms told them a good girl would never just call a boy...without him having called first!

I could never expect anything other than Platonic friendship with guys... But after I got out of High school, literally every guy started finding me attractive. It has increased so much now, I have no idea what exactly happened. Like, literally whenever I say that I've always been single, people think I'm lying and that it's just not possible... But I don't want to be with anyone who's solely into my looks and not into who I am as a person. I always start wondering, 'Would this person have even spared me a glance had I still been the way I was back at school?" I totally get you... In fact, I know guys who were aggressively pursued by women who turned out to be psychos. It's a shame too, because many guys are unaware of the clues women throw their way to signal interest. Try to find more subtle ways to let a guy know you want to be asked out. Compliments usually work. Such as telling him you like his cologne, his shoes or shirt, his hair style, his facial hair/beard, his eyes etc. I was 16 the first time a women tried to pick me up. So I've also always been the one to ask guys out, I was leaving the notes on their desks since I was a kid (they never did check yes but I never gave up) and while I'm still probably not going to stop making the first move cause the only other option is wasting time waiting around, what I've always gotten (besides rejection) is guys who go out with you just cause you asked and they might as well, but they don't really like you all that much and it doesn't last. In other words, you perpetually get settled for. And it makes logical sense, even as a girl who makes the first move I know men generally aren't expecting it, they're raised to believe they have to make the first move, and so if they /really/ liked me they would have done so. The fact that I had to is almost automatic confirmation that he's at best not quite as into me as I am to him and that's a hard thing to deal with, especially when I don't want to be on the other end either, dating whoever asks me out just cause it's easier.

Anni Rundgren How do you get over the pain from the rejection? Sometimes, it hurts so much but I just dont have the solution to stop it. It's no one's fault and people keep telling me that time is what I need to move on. It has been 1 week. My crush is leaving in 3 weeks' time and he wishes to hang out with me once or twice before leaving. How am I gonna move on and meet up with him at this point of time;*(( It hurts so muchh coz it is my first confession and I have never dated before.

Samantha Lee in all seriousness though, you'll get over it. There's millions of other guys in the world, many of whom you're capable of having similar or even stronger feelings for. Crying about something and feeling sorry for yourself doesn't solve anything and doesn't make your life better in any way. In the end, work to become a better person. Being too hung up on one person will prevent you from discovering all the other awesome people you could be meeting. And trust me there are awesome people out there, much more so than this guy. You'll realise that in time after you get over him.

I'm not the shyest guy in the world, just a bit introverted, and not really the 'progressive' type, etc etc. But Lemme tell you, even if you're not a Tomboy? Women who can take the initiative are 'Sexy'. If a woman can feel comfortable and confident enough to openly ask a guy out or show their interests, it already shows great characteristic in her that a guy will instantly know whether he really likes that or doesn't. If everyone is crying for equality of all things, women have to stop acting like they should rely on men to take the initiative in majority of cases in everything, initiatives will propel you forward much faster in life, at the job, getting hired, being noticed and probably in finding someone you like. But hey, that's just my two cents.

In Japan, it's like a tradition for girls to confess first. Most of the time they would say "I really like you" but not really directly ask that person out. It's up to the person getting confessed to say yes or no and then they go out or not. And it's not like Japanese girls are really straightforward and blunt. It's nice that there is no stigma for girls there to ask the guys first.

Assuming you're in school (Just cuz a lot of people on KZread nowadays are still in school), it's best to make friends with your crush first. Most people don't want to go out with a total stranger that never talks to anyone. Like, think about it. If you don't talk to anyone, that means you probably don't have the greatest social skills. If you went on a date with your crush, your social skills will probably not only be bad, but even worse because you'd be nervous around them. Getting to be friends with them first, without hopefully ending up as best friends/friendzoned, shows that they enjoy your company and don't mind being around you. It also shows that, as friends, you can talk to each other fairly easily. If you can't be friends with them, then that either means that they don't want to talk to you, or don't have an interest in you. This also eliminates the point of confessing, because you already know they'd probably reject you if they don't want to talk to you, which means no humiliation. Also, if you're ugly, why don't you do something about it? If it's your body you mean, such as obesity or something, then try to be healthier. If it's just a physical defect that you can't change, then so be it. Oh, and one more thing. Make sure they like you for your personality too. Say you're a pretty funny, or comedic, person and like to make jokes, most people enjoy other people who are fun to be around and can hold a decent conversation. Awkwardness may be inevitable in times, but break that awkwardness by saying something funny or relateable, or with a fun question that'll get them thinking. Sorry for the long essay, but hope this helps just a tiny bit :)

I got asked out by a girl once. We dated, we committed. Eventually, we broke up. Why? For many reasons, but she also stopped being that person who asked me out. You want to be treated equally, but you won't share the risk or the responsibilities. It's not that people aren't allowed to change, but when the change occurs, don't be surprised if everything about the relationship changes. Especially if it changes to the level where it is no longer worth it to one party to remain in the relationship. Women, no baiting and switching allowed. Be honest, be sincere, and consider his feelings, too. Men, ask for--don't demand--what you want. If the net negatives outweigh the net positives, end it. It will be better for both of you in the long run.

Almost every guy I ended up making a move on had the same feelings I did but didn't know how to say it. I think society has been spending so much time telling guys how not to be a creep they don't know how to give a woman her space while also letting her know she's super sexy and you want to go on a date. Girls have to pick up the slack and ask guys out! If a guy thinks you're being too aggressive, he's not worth it.

  • @Loathomar

+Kate B That's what I think too. If a guy rejects a women because her asking him out is "not lady like", he is not going to be a good fit for a women willing to ask a guy out and by asking him out you just save your self the time and effort of dating a guy that exacts you to fit into a classic gender role that you don't really want to fit into. Though, some women do want to fit into the classic gender, and they might be best to not ask a guy out. Just do what feels right for you and not what society says is your gender role. Though that does take some deep thought to why you choose what you choose, it is not always easy to know if you are doing it because you want it or because of social pressures.

@@BuzziMuzzi Yeah but like, even sometimes when you just politely do it, or ask a girl out subtly, a good percentage of the time, they still react in a rather unsettling way so it kinda deters alot of guys from even trying, in order to avoid any unwanted instances from happening. However at the end ah the day, somebody's gotta do it and as a guy I do think that us guys should be the ones to lead by making the first move however if a girl sees a guy she wants, she should definitely act on it and let him know how she feels.

@@Kingwil497 Honestly I'm not kidding, if you're polite and able to take "no" as an answer as a good sport, a girl will not make an issue. Usually when guys say this, it's because they don't realize how they really don't take "no" for an answer and be pesky and mean to a girl about it.

I learned how to have courage to ask guys out for one specific reason - I was too terrified when they were asking me out. That's how I started to encourage myself to be the one who talks first. So, I practiced a bit and... now I have a wholesome husband. 🥰

Bottom line is, do whatever you want. Who gives a know what about people's opinions. Anyone who thinks you're (female) desperate because you're making the first move doesn't deserve you. And anyone who thinks shy guys should "nut up" and make the first move isn't addressing the problem. In summary: abandon the notion that men should always make the first move. Consider me subscribed. ^_^

The man I'm with now is the first person I've actually asked out. We've been dating for over two years and it was the best decision I've ever made in my life. Being upfront about how much I love him has caused him to completely change his life from being insecure and self hating to healthy and confident. Loving people honestly is the most important thing you can push yourself to do.

My first girlfriend refused to make a move, but ended up having all her friends (a number of whom hated me) tell me to ask her out. Eventually I did, but I did tell her that was a weak move and explained why she should just take the initiative. She ended up asking a guy out after we broke up and he said yes so that worked out great for me.
