Heavy taxation is reason for less profit..over a period of time, foreign companies could not break even.. so ran into huge losses. Apart from this, earlier a car was into production cycle for 12 years, till it was replaced by a newer model.. but now consumer taste and buying power has changed.. now if dont give new launches every year, u cant survive. New MVI rule are also killer one. It has created a new panic while driving four wheeler. Any mistake in driving , parking or any other human error like pollution loss can cause thousands of rupees penalty with stresses.
More than 90+% Cars are sold in Cities. And due chaotic Bumper to bumper City traffic the average speed is less than 10 kmph. Most of Cars are used for City commuting from point A to B. Hence fun to drive big cars are not worth it, so efficiency & reasonable cabin space for weekend family travel is our basic requirement. At 10-15 kmph in City driving, priority is efficiency & than Safety, so people tend to compromise on Safety over Efficiency. More than 60-70% buys for Status in Society & rest for convenience. When we compare to US & European countries people have to travel long distance everyday for job etc.... Hence they need those big, powered CARS. Which is just the opposite to our Indian City requirements.

Middle class people prefer car only 1)when whole(mostly more than two) family goes out... 2) to travel hometown(mostly people settle in big cities but often travel to their hometowns during festivals) For 2nd point safety is must for a car( if you don't agree, check the data of accident deaths in India)

But from my observation, India is not alone, the GM left Europe too after selling Opel to the PSA group. Ford still sells cars in Europe but it is evident that Ford is struggling. They only enjoy big success in the UK and Ireland. As for India, I was always aware of local competitors like that of TATA, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki (they offered cheap cars, something the American competitors couldn't do). Toyota is the only foreign brand that enjoy BIG success, especially with the Innova and Fortuner. Even here in Europe they're putting a good competition against the Volkswagen Group.

Bhai ford cars were mainly performance oriented with fantastic mileage, the main problems with ford is they didn't gave any fancy feature in there cars, the marketing of their cars is nowhere as compared to other cars, they have only 4 cars in india where as maruti, hyundai and tata have cars in every price segment and in terms of service and maintenance cost they were cheap to maintain than most of the brands If they would you launched a creta, harrier rival, discontinued figo and launced a new vehicle in lower segment like kwid, tiago rival, and make the freestyle as premium hatchback then fortune of ford might have been changed So the portfolio were looked like this:- New ford car - Kwid/tiago rival with 1200 cc engine Ford Freestyle and Aspire as premium hatchback / compact sedan - i20/amaze rival Ford Ecosport - the compact SUV segment king Ford Territory - Creta/harrier rival Ford Endeavor - the Undisputed king

Agree with last one... No other mid level luxury SUV matches Endeavour... XUV 700, XUV 500, Scorpio, Thar fit into entry level SUV... The so called creta-brezza segment ia just another hatchback with higher ground clearance.

Ford Fiesta was my best experience out of 6 deferent models of deferent make since 25 years of driving experience. in safety , milage, zero Mantanence during 1.23 lakh km . Only minus point are , very much hard to operate in clutch , steering , breaks , this may be its drawback . Zero Mantanence is the most important point .

If stricter safety norms are implied, like a minimum of 4 stars, more than 50% of Maruti cars will be disqualified. But Indians are only after cheap & mileage oriented cars

Used work in ford service n sales,no wonder product was good but they were selling only 6-7 models. Recently Freestyle model were having 4 but it had cut down to 2 models titanium n titanium + . Titanium feature were almost same as base model in 2020 model. I think they were selling dis 2 model from 2020. My brother-in-law is having Freestyle titanium 2018 model it has same features like 2020 titanium + model. They hv reduce the feature of the titanium model like Ambentte or trend model but the price was more as compare to 2018 Freestyle titanium model. This one of reason they hv failed to deliver the demand of Indian consumer.

Ancillary cost of Insurance and Maintenance charges affect Indian sentiment. Low rise of income as well as small family pushes Indian customer to go for low priced cars like Brezza, Baleno Or Hyundai Creta. Plus high cost of fuel also affecting Indian customers.
Heavy Taxation 50 percent are taxes you cannot produce quality cars , Maruti manufactures low quality vehicles.

Indian govt. 200% import duty lagati hai auto parts imports kliye taki Indian automakers profit me rhe aur party ko Chanda dete rhe. 2 yrs tak factory band hua govt ne koi incentives nhi di na hi govt chahti hai ki indian auto markets me competition badhe aur customers ko saste me achha quality ka gaadi mile. Customer toh apna fayda dekhega na jo sasta hai wohi kharidega. Aur last me Indian roads ki quality Aaj v bhut kharab hai 100BHP se jyada ki car koi kharidta hai toh uski power waste hi hai. Par America me Ford Mustang American muscle 1950s-60s me 400BHP power ka gaadi nikalta tha. Ford ne Indian market aur Indian logo ki psychology ko thik se nhi samajh paya. I agree on this par govt ki policy v bhut kharab hai Excise, GST, Insurance, Chalan, Fuel, mandatory addition of unnecessary features have became very expensive. Customer ke jeb par asar padh rha hai. Toyota ki baat kar rhe ho Toyota kam profits me v survive kar rhi hai. Ford america me hi bhut pesa kama leta hai. Toh profits compare karega toh America se profit ke comparison me India se profit bhut less hota hai. Mujhe toh lagta hai kuch saalo baad Indian roads pe Mercedes BMW v nhi dikhengi

As a consumer agar mere se sawal kiya jaye ki main konsi car lena prefer karunga toh first of all mujhe company koi v chalegi but usme safety features compulsory chahiye hi chahiye aur sirf 6 ya 4 airbags hone se kaam nhi chalega humein strong frame wali vehicle chahiye hogi.. Rahi baat features ki toh kuch jyada khaas naa v ho toh koi baat nhi atleast AC, power steering, windows toh rahengi hi aur bas music system, GPs system, nd good braking system hi kaafi h. This didn't happen, instead this trend reversed. India is no longer seen as a lucrative market for high value products. The India story, as far as the world is concerned, is pretty much over. Indian government is highly responsible for companies going back and the most common reason is High tax . Before independence , car was a symbol of luxury-ness but now in 2023 , car is like necessity. Every indian carry a dream to own a car but high tax is killing the dream .😢

Only for name, they are foreign companies, but they are making Indian standard cars, which is little bit higher than Indian companies and less than foreign companies, for safety measures, this cars are not of high quality, these are medium quality cars

But if they want to sell their "Quality" car at higher prices and people are not interested in it, they can't blame people for not choosing it.

You have to work for such life all around the world. Government wants them to make the cars in India so that people get jobs.
