    12:44 after playing about 30 hours in Factorio, one night I started playing Dont Starve Together with a friend while i was drunk, and caught myself clicking on an item over and over again for 10 seconds and not understanding why it was not being crafted. "OH you're supposed to make the wood thingy first....ugh thats annoying......"

    Yeah, I'm glad there is a demo. Even with the overwhelming positive reviews and countless KZread videos, I still wasn't sure. I thought the usual two hours "trial" every game has on Steam was too risky to take this time. So I got the demo. Played it and uninstalled it after I was done. I was sold. ^^

    not only that, but they're actually working on the demo to be a tutorial of sorts aswell; while showcasing what the game actually is. Also, their entire "no bullshit" attitude is something that i fully support. A representative free demo, that's enough for you to know if you'd like it. The game costing 30 bucks (or IDK). Just 30. No 29.99 or anything. They said it will never be on sale on steam, and they stick to it. Want to buy it? Get it now, don't wait for the sales to start. the ability to download any version from their own website as a .zip (if you bought it from them, or connected your steam account), that can be extracted anywhere and runs without needing internet once. Of course, you do lose auto-updates, automated mod-management and multiplayer, but even if they drop support you will have the game you can play until the end of times. (also, they've rewrote the entire game numerous times to increase performance, have mechanics that seamlessly interact with one another, in this incredibly polished game, that they still consider unfinished)

    Part of the reason this game is listed at the very top on Steam - is that customers knows what they are getting. At no time, do the devs tell over-hyped lies about what the game is/does. People who does not like the idea of managing resources while building a base - will not buy the game; while people who DO like this, will be greeted with one of the greatest base-building-&-resource-management-games that has ever been created.

    The weird thing about it is that, with all the overhyped software everywhere, factorio almost seems to present itself negatively due to its simplicity.

  • 5 жыл бұрын

    Also, Yammo, there's a demo, which in this era is almost unheard of. So you can try it out, even if it's limited, but you can get a general feel for the gameplay and see whether it might be in your ballpark.

    Thanks for this comment, it gave me a little bit of a revelation as well. When a game doesn't oversell its self and explains what the gameplay is about in a straight forward way, it is far more likely to draw a committed and interested target audience which will in turn be more likely to rate it higher. This, I believe, is one of the reasons that it has such a high approval rating. It has drawn in the players who will enjoy it. Factorio targets the right audience for its self.

    I think what sets them appart from many companies as far as update is concerned is that they don't announce much deadlines. Along that, they do less updates waves each more impactful. I think long run it's the best strategy, and the team is definitely hard at work, but short term, it might feel they're not updating often because there can be months between updates. FFF greatly helps dealing with impatience though.

    Your factory is the definition of spaghetti factory

  • @kaleidoscope3234

    @kaleidoscope3234

    5 жыл бұрын

    you will give a lot of shit to it when you realize because there are million more stuffs down the research tree, your factory getting more messier and bottleneck everywhere. First of the spaghetti symptom, you found yourself having less and less space although you technically have infinite space to build your factory. Since belt lines with the components needed for the next product is tangled deep within the all the spaghetti belt, you wont even have enough space to turn the belt line around to lead the materials to where you want them, many recipe later on demand you to build fluid pipe to mix in the chaos (you can get around it with tons more belts and assembling machine which will demand more space). Secondly, even if you manage to expand your factory, the disorganized belt line will sooner or later causing shortages on production. Your belt can only transport as many products at the same time and recipe getting more demanding and demanding, your iron plate belts starting to carry less and less iron plates on it, which slow down the production speed of item down the line by a decade. To solve the problem you must expand more belt line (which demand a lot more space in an already crowded factory) or producing later tier belt which only help for a brief. Ofc there are some people who manage to master the game and reach the transcendance who are capable of building super compact factory, they memorized each and every recipe in the game and their production rate. Although to do so you need to spend a hell lot of time in this game with hundred of trial and errors.

    How is this such a difficult thing to understand? While Steam's refund policy isn't the best, it's fairly generous. So pay attention; The 2 hours is a NO QUESTIONS ASKED refund. You hit "refund" you get refund. After that, you can still request a refund, explain the situation in text and it may be refunded. It may not be, but looking at most online stores that aren't, say GOGdotcom or ItchdotIO, that's a whole lot better.

    It's not that hard. With every iteration you learn something and do better next time. Also, it's perfectly fine to tear down your factory and rebuild it. Or even just leave it and start a new one. It took me about 200 hours to launch my first rocket. After that I took a year or two off, and recently started over. Another 170 hours later I now launch a rocket every few minutes, and mass produce nukes. Most of my factory is still a mess, and I still haven't used a bunch of features of the game. But that's why I love it, there's still a few hundred hours in it, before I will get bored. I think you officially maxed out the game when you launch a rocket in every second.

    But seriously Factorio is my favorite game of all times probably. Like I love automation irl, the idea of automating things is just... its amazing. And factorio gets that, it forces you to make things by hand early on and then 10 hours later you completely forget that thing even exists as now its been automated so much and so efficiently that it becomes nearly just an after thought. I mean Advanced Circuits are really THE BEST EXAMPLE of this. Getting to them is such a pain, I mean hell you have the have Circuits and plastic and omg right I have to make petroleum, right I have to make sure to use all parts of the oil so it keeps moving, and now I need another thing. But then eventually you just notice a red line moving through your base and may for a moment think "Oh hey, wasnt that my iron plate line a minute ago fucking hell advanced circuits you piece of shit" never realizing exactly when you automated them.

    Oil definitely gets hard to keep track of, mostly because you're juggling a finite resource against batteries (needed) and adv. circuit boards (needed). Both are required to keep the base operating, yet both are also needed for the later parts of the game, when an exoskeleton is no longer optional. When oil runs out, the worse you balanced the resources, the harder it is to get to the next oil deposit.

    The fact that I have 105 hours in Factorio and still feel like a complete novice, says a lot about this one. I will say this much, if you have any big games going and you're intrigued by this one, finish the others first, then dive in. The great thing about this game above other management games like cities skylines, is the systems are very exact. Once you learn the mechanics, you can fix problems by knowing exactly what you need to put in place. I feel like I not very smart sometimes. I'm mesmerized by what I see people build. But I feel like this game really helps me at improving my problem solving and critical thinking skills. And I love every second of it.
