Why Explore Consciousness and Cosmos? | Episode 612 | Closer To Truth

Cosmos and consciousness seem utterly different, the former encompassing the vast universe, the latter emerging from tiny brains. Yet consciousness founds most religions, and some cosmologists speak quietly, profoundly, about consciousness. Featuring interviews with David Chalmers, Alexander Vilenkin, David Brin, Colin McGinn, and Paul Davies.

Actually, I was just about to write that scientists might not be experts on consciousness. They mostly even argue that c is beyond science. My suggestion would be to speak with Buddhist monks, as they are training their consciousness for their whole life. Whenever I listen to them I get the feeling that they know much more about the world than any scientist. This is not against science, but if science to this day has no idea what c is, then it might not be within the realm of science.

One being an energy source that keeps pumping out that much energy forever. Next, what is the point ? And nothing ever happens without a prior event. So the big bang was probably not the beginning. My Dreams are eerily similar to Einstein's theory of relativity, when I dream I always have all of my senses. If I need to get through a door that looks like it's a mile away, I somehow without even planning it out, just open the door right in front of me. Then after I go through that door I can run down thru a stairwell that looks infinite, and reach the ground 100 feet down by extending my leg, not even aware that I'm bending space & time in my dream to do so. In dreams we move like eternal beings move, we use time to our advantage and simply have control of all space and material matter. Death is real life, Biological life is a department of corrections for the eternal. We will never know the ultimate truth not in this existence.

Brin hits it with the “pre-programmed” and we’re supposed to do this… Again. I actually can answer these things. Because I know what gravity is. How the natural laws are the way they are. I think Copernicus wanted to publish post/humously not out of fear but because he had all these people staring him in the face who built lives on erroneous views. It’s like smashing a kids sand castle… I get it. I love children. ❤️‍🔥 But in my case, I understand that if the kids are going to survive, they need to build bigger, better, correct sand-castles. ❤️🦄 Thus the smashing. @@ferdinandkraft857 When you wake from a dream, there is a feeling associated with it - a feeling that accompanies the comparison between the 'dream' and 'consensus reality'. It is that feeling that lets you know which is real and which is dream. That's how you 'know' you aren't dreaming anymore. Altered states of consciousness have that feeling as well, except they feel 'more real' than consensus reality, and consensus reality is shown to be a dream / illusion in comparison. They are also accompanied by a 'remembering' of these states. It isn't some completely foreign thing, it is a state that has been forgotten, a feeling of returning home. They are a surprise for the ego (the thing that currently defines your life) since this ego has never experienced it - but there is a deeper part of you that knows it, remembers it, and recognizes it instantly as truth. Besides, the only way we know reality is through our conscious experience. Altered states are a part of that and (if we are to have an accurate understanding of reality) need to be accounted for. Unfortunately, given their nature, I can't have an experience for you any more than I can hear for you or think your thoughts for you.

@@ferdinandkraft857 Fair enough. Our dismissal of 'hallucination' as something 'not real' is a product of our scientific materialist culture. This actually causes a lot of suffering for people who DO experience 'hallucinations', because the rest of society tells them 'they aren't real' and 'as a result, you're broken'. Psychedelics turn that on its head. Instead of slicing up our conscious experience into categories of 'real' and 'not real', the message is 'all you are is conscious experience, so whatever you are experiencing is real'. From that position, we have 'consensus reality' (where you and I interact in an objectively verifiable way), and we have other equally real but 100% subjective experiences as well - thoughts, emotions, pains, dreams, hallucinations, insights, qualia, etc. The division between what is 'real' and what is not is a useful convention, but ultimately not grounded in truth. If you are courageous, find someone underground to guide you. If you are less courageous, go overseas for ayahuasca. If you are patient, just wait - these substances will be legal soon for therapy (mdma and psilocybin in particular). I do recommend everyone have an ego death experience. It is life changing, similar to having a baby or getting married. Approach with reverence and caution, with an attitude of surrender.

The question of consciousness doesn't belong in physics, because physicists can't do meaningful experiments to study human consciousness and understand it. The study of human consciousness belongs in biology and computer science. Because computer neural networks can now simulate parts of the brain. Biological understanding of the human brain can now be simulated and tested in computers. But physics can only talk about consciousness in non-scientific, untestable, and unfalsifiable ways. Which is an embarrassment for the science of physics, rather than a contribution to the study of consciousness. That's why most physicists need to talk about it in private. They embarrass themselves and their science, when they talk about it in public.

Some interesting content, but does not address the following. People who have had NDE's see clear details of say an operating theatre or motor crash scene, when not conscious and even clinically dead and can relate these after recovery, when according to normal brain centric laws, that should not be possible. Also such people relate very similar accounts of the afterlife. There are also people that claim to be re-incarnated with strong memories of their previous lives, subsequently confirmed by written records, or from eyewitness accounts of living people. As regards the other arguments raised in the interview, multiverses etc should be ruled out. It is just a regurgitation of the Steady State theory v Creation. Even Fred Hoyle, who was the most ardent supporter of Steady State theory admitted he was wrong and that it looked like the universe had been created ex nihilo. The whole point about the Creator is that he does not exist within Space Time, otherwise sudden creation ex nihilo is not possible. We cannot even ask the question what existed before Big Bang, since time itself(both arrows) only commenced then. G-d himself hints to this in the Torah(old testament), when he says "The secret things are for me" This includes pre-creation.
