Nice seeing the filing of the rough edges in the metal trunking! I'm a bit late to this video but have you looked into using a plumber's deburring tool to potentially achieve the same thing a little quicker? The file still would be good to get any remaining sharp edges. Keep it up though, love seeing new ways of doing things better.

Tip I got from Joint Tech Cabling, if you cut the gland shroud slightly too tight, you can usually still get it on if you lay three or so cable ties flat along the cable, into the shroud. They act like a ramp guiding the shroud onto the end of the cable.

Great handsaw idea
Plant room, its a cupboard with a DB in it, plant rooms have boilers in them the size of cars, primary & secondary pump sets, pressurisation units blah, blah, blah. Get the boy a jigsaw for cutting trunking, save his wrists & alot of time & show him how to use a pair of grips properly. Can't remember how many plant room installs I've done but I can remember never using a laptop to plan them. Perimeter trunking with conduits coming off, hit all points on the panel drawing... Laptop, what ever next. Slot & paxoline your next D.B? Edit: keep up the good work. Hahaha

@@corymac curling off a perfect coil of steel swarf like a pencil sharpener is pure OCD porn too 🥸
Try to use prefabricated triangles for your trunking next time... cost a lot but Looks much better, saves time and there is no need to install glands on every crossover... SWA cable should be glanded on your DB entrance, not on some random place of your trunking😉
@corymac
Жыл бұрын
Personally not a fan of prefab in corners, means you lose that as useable space to take conduits from etc… SWA is almost always taken into trunking on bigger installs, top into trunking, bottom into db. Means no issues with IP

one thing that i would had done is to install a tee couple of tee sections in the trunking, you have limited the 100x100 trunking down to 2 x 40mm holes... no future proof and a complete pain to replace bad cables or add extras.

How is no one talking about the Nick Bundy cameo at 21:15 ?! 😂
Cory, I will share with you a valuable piece of information. I assume you use a Stanley branded measuring tape? I see you hold the tape end at one end and then curl over the tape at a corner, for instance. Now watch me blow your mind: Do not bend the tape, use the tape as a part of your measurement. Take a look at the back of the tape and it will say +75mm or something like that. Now, measure the item you want to measure but put the tape in the corner. Read the tape, lets say 400mm, then +75mm for the tape, that's 475mm. I hope you get what I mean. I've used it for years now and it has never let me down.

Quality work guys and well done Ted. Would you be interested in coming to our place and view the work Ive done as a DIYer in mid Wales. There are reasons why I have taken this route and we could talk about it, and discus my plans for the house, which I would like you to become involcved. Currently we have 4kw Solar array, 5.5kw Hybrid Inverter (setup as a UPS not feed in), 31.5kWh battery storage, which runs our house, 3 x 600w Infared Panels (which I am still installing), an Sunamp UNiQ 9kw water battery for our hot water, 6kw Setec Power Unit which runs our LG 9kw Therma V ASHP, and 2 EV wall chargers. All this and most of the day we are off grid using both solar and cheap renewable energy during the day. Interested?
What tape measure is he using? The dewalt one? Need to get me one
is the rest of this install on YT? wheres the link?

Better to use pvc trunking instead of metal
@black.phoenix.
Жыл бұрын
True but this way all the trunking plus cabinet is PE bonded (plus the armoured cable since is glanded and screwed in on the trunking with a locking nut) and in a case of a fire everything is contained instead of PVC who basically will melt and fuel the fire itself. Am I right Cory? I asked since I'm not totally into the Residential UK norms. More EU, US and CH ones. Although in commercial and industry all fixtures should be metal, from trunking or conduit to cable racking and everything have to be PE bonded via clamps, and it is that's valid in every single country I made industrial installations/maintenance, and it was a few different ones around the world.
