I disagree heavily with the idea of not playing with your cat directly. Make your best judgement but bite control can be trained and the only way to do it is to set the boundaries yourself.

My kitten loves to bite me when he's being playful. But if he starts to bite me a little too hard, I pet his nose with my finger, and say, "Gentle. Gentle." And then he starts to lick me sweetly. This monday will be 3 weeks that I've had him and he makes me so happy. I love him very much. We bonded the minute I held him in the shelter. 🥰🥰🥰

I got offered the belly after 10 minutes of being in the room (it was 5 minutes before she would come of out hiding). Needless to say, I was chosen, and this is her home. The 'gentle gentle' works on a lot of cats successfully. Even this 6.5yo, who does not seem to have been socialised out of the kitten play, does bitey games. Most of the time she is so very gentle. Occasionally she gets a bit excited and carried away, I give her the 'gentle' command and she backs it off.

@davinasquirrel7672 Oh wow. I didn't even know the "gentle gentle" was a "thing" amongst cat owners. Gambit ( I named him after my favorite X-Men) is my first ever kitten, and I got him as an ESA, as I suffer from major depression and needed one *badly* .The day I went to the shelter, they told us (my boyfriend and I) that Gambit (formerly known as Walt) was found far away on the street all by himself. No mom, no siblings, just him. I think they found him at 2 months old. I didn't meet/receive him until 3 and a half months. Now he's 4 months. I guess you can say we both found each other in the dark and came together to search for "the light". In short, we saved one another, and I'm so happy to be his cat mommy. 🥰

@@blackdogbrown I actually picked it up from friends of the family (mega cat people) back in the 80s. With current moggie princess, only one 'gentle' required for some reason. And in a soft tone (she has a trauma background, so no yelling at her).

when he's in a bright mood, and gets the zoomies, i play with him once or twice every day. if i skip several sessions, i risk becoming the prey and having my ankle bitten and clawed open. play with your cat!

Bites me coz he's had enough petting and it's getting him already on the nerves..

My cat bites me to get me out of bed. If I don’t get up the first time he wakes me, Toffee will forcefully bite down on me. Sometimes, he will make me bleed.

Yes the toes 😂 I keep a spray bottle of water just to let her know it's not ok lol

They like having their heads and cheeks scratched. Go below the shoulders and they get uncomfortable, which can lead to a cat nip. You just have to learn to read the signs.

My cat got out he was I the garage and he was afraid he is in inside cat. He went off one me he hurt me big time I needed a trip to the er needed if big time medical treatment he is back home

I had to grab my cat from her resting spot bc my mom told me to get her out of her room so when I was holding her she started to freak out and bite my cheek, she held it there for awhile then tried to run away. Earlier I was harness training her and she hates it. Maybe it was some sort of revenge?

I disagree with you on not rubbing their tummy. I have two that love it. Our 8 year old just was adopted a week ago and by the third day he would roll on his back when I was petting him. I have read that if they trust you then if they want you to you can.

when I'm sitting my cat always bites me and they are very rough. I don't know if they are angry or playing.

Idk why my cat bites me. I had to put her in a room for time out and i had to scruff her and i felt bad because she got scared. But idk what to do. I tried just leaving the room or leave and close the door for 10-20 minutes but didn't work

@@AshknFX Young cat/kitten? The biting is part of play, she considers you part of her group (and playmate). You need to play with her with toys on strings if it is part of play or wanting to initiate play. But, if an older cat, could be overstimulation by too much petting. So go easier on the pets (ie not constant), give a few pets, then reassuringly rest your hand on their body. They then feel the bond without the overstimulation. I have a rescue (nearly 7yo) who was not taught to grow out of kitten-play-bites, but she is very gentle, so I can deal. She does it when she is super happy, rolls on her back, grabs my arm with her front paws, nibbles, and the odd bunny kick from the back paws. A work around to stop the biting, when she goes into this mode, I cup my palm over the top of her head, and massage behind the ears with thumb and little finger. She actually likes this more, and does not bother to bite.

Mine nearly took my eye out this morning think he was feril then if eat he swipes it off mev😂

My cat first started hunting mice, rats, small birds and even squirrels! She would hunt them and bring then inside the house and not eat then, just tear them apart! Now she will hunt mostly mice and rats and will eat them only leaving out the tail and some organs!🤢 Wonder what got into her?

My cat nips my hands while I pet her and nips my feet when she wants me up to feed her.

My new cat bites me on the leg because he's young and wants to plays .it's getting worse and my leg bleeds and gets minor infections from bites . You say things like water squirters for discipline is the wrong approach. I guess I will have to go out and buy a pair of chaps for leg protection instead.

Sounds like he wants to get your attention. So, when he does it, do NOT even say his name, just walk away. He will learn that this behaviour will not get him attention or playtime.

Does anyone know why my cat bite me really hard? I am doing something on my PC and he jumps into my lap, lay down and meow ask to pet him and he really enjoy it and then he jumped down from me and 20 secs after while i was doing something on my PC he just jump for like 1 meter high and with full bite force bite me in the hand FOR NO REASON? Then I just went few centimeres away and he rushed towards me again, full bite force + full claw power, literally have tiny bleeding holes inside my hand right now xD Just would like to know why he did that for literally no reason? And those bites arent friendly ones, he literally did full bite power like I am the prey hahah Anyone knows why he did that?

Some cats just get too overstimulated by longer petting sessions. Switch to a couple of pets, then a reassuring but static hand on their body. For the cat, the reassuring hand is just as bonding as the petting.

Did not really explain why MY cat bites me 😔....... I thought it was cuz he's hungry and I'm not moving quickly to feed him? No?

My cat bites me and I would just grab his neck and hold it up high and say "No!" And let him go. I don't understand why my skin tastes good to him. Next time I think k I will use spicy pepper and rub it on my foot and let him bite me. I think it teaches him a good lesson. I adore my cat and he's still trainable
