Hey, Harry! The new Luxilon Alu Power VIBE is just in time for this hybrid subject. It is superior as a arm comfort string and great for low RA racquets such as the Clash. Also, it can be used in stiffer racquet frames to aid arm comfort. As a full bed, it plays soft with great access to power. To get more feel, one can use VIBE as a cross with a firmer poly on the mains. Vibe has a surface to aid snap back and reduce friction wear. Thus, you get feel, comfort, durability and performance. Yippy!

My setup: Head Speed MP with Luxilon ALU Fluoro mains / Wilson NXT crosses @ 49 lbs. 4 1/4 grip size + undergrip + 2 white wilson pro overgrips + 8g lead tape at +- 30 degrees from the head side center line. And crazily enough, I 100% agree with your analysis of soft/soft hybrid setups! My hitting style and build I have spent optimizing for 3 years now at a club level for my florida college all of whom play between a 4.0/4.5 usta rating for men's and can hold our own against UF (who can be regarded as some of the best competition at the JV collegiate level in the nation). The perks of my setup is the softness and minimal harsh vibrations/feedback that would hasten tennis elbow & wrist injuries especially at the collegiate level while providing strong pop and power. It does come at the cost of diminished spin from groundstrokes and serve. This has proven to be a formidable setup for doubles where flat, low balls are ideal and serves/volley playstyles are rewarded. I consistently play above my weight class because my setup gears me for success in doubles. Would recommend for players who are older that play at a moderate level and dont/no longer have the necessary strength to muscle the ball back every time.

If you want a soft cross that will allow a spin oriented poly to activate, try the Isospeed Cream. Even though its soft, it's a round and crazy slick poly. Try to pair something firmer with similar tension loss. Some good choices are Technifibre 4S, Diadem Elite XT, or Confidential.

I used a full bed of Luxilon Element and it played well. But, it did not last. I used very disappointed in the durability. Then, I used the Element on the mains with a coated snap back type of string and it lasted so much longer. Now I am a Element fan when i use it as a hybrid partner.

Thx Harry! I actually hybrid Yonex PolyTour REV with a Yonex PolyTour Spin G together at the same tension 48 lbs, they're both great, but one feels more muted than the other and by combining them both - my shots are silent but with the perfect amount of feel from the PolyTour REV on the mains! ... Also tried a 2 lb tension difference from mains to crosses with no difference in feel/playability, so just stuck with same tension all around. These strings are what I found when I was looking for a complete RPM Rough replacement for a better price (around $170 / reel on eBay :) ... Use it on the newest Yonex Vcore Pro 97 and the Vcore 98 before I upgraded (needed more stability on my one handed backhand, hence maybe why Shapovalov replaced his Vcore 95...)

Ya, hybrid setup of Hyper G and Technifibre multi only lasts me one or two matches before they break and then they break like 5-6 strings will break at once and they all frayed lol. Love the feel tho.

so i have been hybriding Hyper G with technifibre multi feel. I really love hyper g as a full bed, but in stiffer frames, it gives me elbow issues. im using the ezone line up right now, the 100+ and 98 tour both with lead tape. They felt really stiff at first but once i got the multi in the crosses, the racquet feels much better. I prefer having a full bed still though, it gives you more control, and less lag time on your frame which i like. but i think having the multi feel in the crosses make it a little more powerful from the trampoline effect. i might lose a little bit of spin and launch angle.

Very much appreciate your videos. I was really confused to hear you say you don’t hybrid hyper G frequently since you suggested that a lot for hybrids in videos from 2020. I guess those were more hypothetical suggestions perhaps. I do like hyper g in a hybrid but after seeing this video I may try a full bed just to see.

I would string the triax 5 to 6 lbs higher on the crosses than what ever tension you put on the poly's mains. I've hybrid the hyper g 17g mains with Tier One Ghost 17g on the crosses and got great spin and power from that combination. Because of the rounded ghost string with a coating on it makes main snaps back freely.

hyper G size 20 on main and Babolat synthetic size 17 on cross, gives decent durability for me, tension at 38 LBs on main and 40 for crosses and plays perfect, soft and lots of spin. if you put same synthetic on main and same poly on cross sound or feel becomes really nicer but of course breaks faster.

After trying many different hybrids in many different frames, I decided that I preferr polys in a full bed. The only hybrid that worked for me was Champion's Choice for example but it's $$$. For me, the problem is finding the tension that works best with each string and frame combinatioin. A universal, go to tension for all racquets can sometimes feel unplayable whether a hybrid or full bed.

Well based on my little experience, to match two strings in hybrid you should look at strings measured data, available on subscription databases, to create a string bed that works synchronous. However the poly will always decay faster than synthetic, multi or natural gut reason why never works for many hours and becomes erratic in spin, mostly on modern frames. Unless you change racquet every 9 games of course.

Hi, I’ve been hybriding Wilson NXT 16 on the mains with Luxilon ALU Power Fluoro (17g) on the crosses. I like the feel a lot (fair to say that I’m not a string breaker, durability is not an issue for me). Am I doing it wrong? I started using this combination back in 2015 when I got my first-generation Wilson Burn 100S, but I’ve kept it on my 2nd and 4th gen Burns 100S and it also feels good. I’m about to change to a Yonex Ezone 100 (300 gr), Do I keep the same strings?

I hybrided hyper g in the mains with Wilson revolution, which I liked full bed on my burn 100s, in order to make an extreme spin combination. Well, it didn't go as planed and I am still trying to figure out why. It was so disappointing that I immediately cut it after getting home. On a friend's pure drive I tried msv focus hex mains and technifiber ice code crosses to fit his needs but it finally proved to be one of my two favourite racket-string combinations with the other being a slighly customized gravity pro with lynx tour, but in this case I know exactly what happened. For him I should have dropped the tension about 4 lb because he needs more from the racket than I do.

Poly relies on the snap back effect to work. If the hybrid string you use stops this process then it will effect the playability.

Certain poly's may not hybrid well with multi or syn gut, but almost all poly's hybrid well with a softer, slick, round poly cross, of which Tier One Ghost Wire is IMHO the best of the lot when considering playability and tension maintenance. If you need to go even softer, look to the silicone (rubber) infused poly's: IsoSpeed Cream and Yonex Poly Tour Air. A stiffness scale for all three: GW (stiffest) > Cream > YPTA (softest). That said, 19G Ghost Wire is also as soft or softer than many multi's. Give all of the above a try; I think you'll be quite pleasantly surprised at the ability to "hybrid" more poly's with other poly's (for example: Hyper-G or Confidential mains with Ghost Wire crosses is an insanely good combo!).

I haven't tried hybriding those two, but played with them separately in full beds, liked the PT Pro in a friend's Ezone. I hybrid Yonex PolyTour REV with a Yonex PolyTour Spin G together at the same tension 48/49 lbs, they're both great, but one feels more muted than the other and by combining them both - my shots are silent but with the perfect amount of feel from the PolyTour REV on the mains! ... Also tried a 2 lb tension difference from mains to crosses with no difference in feel/playability, so just stuck with same tension all around. 48 is perfect, but only lasts me a few matches, 49 seems to last almost a month (playing 2-3 times a week.) These strings are what I found when I was looking for a complete RPM Rough replacement for a better price (around $170 / reel on eBay :) ... Use it on the newest Yonex Vcore Pro 97 and the Vcore 98 before I upgraded (needed more stability on my one handed backhand, hence maybe why Shapovalov replaced his Vcore 95... ;) Haven't tried these strings in the Ezone 98/+, it unfortunately gave me an elbow pain in the first 5 minutes of demoing, which I never experienced in my 30+ years of playing tennis. Maybe it was the cheap TW demo tennis strings, felt good with the PT Pro in my friend's Ezone 98 during the warm up ... ;)
