I have a setup using Solinco revolution mains with Head Hawk crosses at 48/46lbs. Lot’s of power, ball pocketing, spin, and comfort, but lacking some control. Good for spinn-y strokes with high margin over the net, not great for flat hitting as you get too much depth. I’d say the basic recipe is a shaped string in the mains, and a smooth round poly in the cross. Look for strings with low string-to-string friction and good tension maintenance. Then adjust tension to your liking. Example mains: Solinco revolution, hyper g, lynx tour, big hitter silver 7 tour, confidential, black code 4s, diadem solstice power, RPM. Example crosses: Solinco outlast, tourna big hitter silver, kirschbaum max power, head hawk, 4G soft, 4G, Dunlop explosive speed, tourna black zone Hope this helps for anyone climbing down the rabbit hole of string hybrids.

I got Black widow and HyperG! Which one do you recommend to main?

In my experience, multis or the softer string always play better in the main. When you put the softer string in the crosses the main tend to “bite” into it wich prevents it from moving freely which reduce the snap back. Now, crossing a soft string with a shape poly is really difficult to string without damaging the main string. It requires more patience, but it’s worth it. When I put the shaped string in the main it offered less ball pocketing and I can feel the ball kinda lunching as soon as it hits the racket. Like everything in tennis is a matter of preference.

Multi strings play better in the main but it's too powerfull... And crossed with mono strings it feels boardy... I prefer the reverse

@@nakmuay5034 I agree and that’s why I don’t do hybrids. However you can probably string the multi tighter than the poly by 5 pound and solve that issue.

I loved the combination of TennisNerd. Head Lix Tour 53 Mains Head hawk 49 crosses.

In my ProKennex Ki Q+ Tour Pro 315, I use Alpha Gut 2000 16g (1.33mm) multifilament in the mains at 52 lbs, and YTEX ProTour Blue 17g (1.20mm) in the crosses at 50 lbs. The YTEX ProTour Blue holds tension very well. I string my own racquets for consistency and convenience. This formula is a winning combination for people who suffer from tennis elbow, as well as maintaining excellent string tension. The round YTEX ProTour co-poly doesn’t chew into the multifilament. I can hit very precise shots on the court. I practiced on a tennis wall for a solid hour using this set up with no wear on the multifilament, no tension loss, and no elbow pain.

I use Solinco Confidential on the main and Toroline Wasabi on the cross, and it plays perfect!

Three setups I use. 1.) Solinco Confidential (16g)Mains and Solinco Hyper G (19) Crosses 2.) Ashaway Kevlar (18) Mains and Solinco Hyper G (19) Crosses 3.) Solinco Confidential (16g) Mains and Ghost Wire (18g) crosses

Right now I am using Hyper G soft 1.30 in the mains and Kirshbaum pro line II (1.25) in crosses. Also testing Wilson revolve and alu power soft in Crosses. My setup is based on the lynx Spin^2 set up which is prepackaged poly/poly hybrid string. Where the creator of the string from head talked about how a softer edge poly in the mains and a slicker stiffer round thinner gauge poly helps greats more spin. The main Grabs the ball more while sliding more on slicker cross string that creates less resistance because the the string is thiner. In General I would say your best bet is to start with your favorite edged poly ideally something somewhat softish and Then find a stiffer (about 15-25 lbs stiffer) Round poly with a low string to string COF (AKA more slick) and go from there until you find your ideal setup. This process took me about 8 months or so.

I use a full bed of dunlop explosive red, great string and fairly soft for a poly.

The answer is simple, a rigid thick polyester with shape in the verticals (maintenance of tension, extra spin, control), and a thinner, slippery, flexible polyester in the horizontals, for greater snapback and softness, example: solinco confidential 1.30 /tour bite soft 1.25

Harry have you tried the ultra budget isospeed strings? At 40 a reel for poly if it doesn't hurt my arm I'm in to try it. I just had a racquet strung with cream and another with baseline control

Isospeed baseline control is downright fantastic. Highly recommend a try, Very nice slick poly. I ordered a reel of the Cream and am looking forward to trying that even though it’s a bit more expensive, comes highly recommended

According to Tennis Warehouse's string comparison table, Confidential (222) is stiffer than Tour Bite (203).

I was using the Gamma Jet mains and Head Lynx Touch crosses which I liked a lot ... since Gamma came out with Gamma Verve Soft mains and Head Lynx Touch crosses which I am presently using for the past month and am liking. Strings are a very personal thing for everyone and what works for one isn't best for another. If you have a stringer and string your own rackets experimenting is fun.

I've played with the Gamma Jet 17 and the Verve Soft both in full bed. The Jet is better overall. Does everything the Verve is supposed to, but with more comfort and easier power

I messed around with that same set up this summer and verve soft had a very high launch angle and didn't bite the ball the way I'm used to edged polys bitting. But that setup was extremely comfortable and plush for a full bed of poly.

I am trying out 17 ga confidential mains and Hyper G 17ga crosses.

What is the best non-poly main for spin? I am asking this for those with arm/wrist issues

Hi Harry, My wife and I just bought a couple rackets from you guys last week and we met your wife who was super nice to us. I'm coming back to the game and my wife is brand new. We purchased a Babalot Pure Drive 100 for her and I picked up the Wilson Clash V2 Pro. The string that was put on both rackets is the smart 130 at 52lbs. After 4 sessions I'm feeling some tennis elbow already. Interestingly, I think I like that Pure Drive with the same string as it just seems the ball launches a bit harder of the racket with the same amount of swing effort compared to the clash V2 pro. I watched a couple of your string vids but not sure what I might do for my clash to help reduce the tennis elbow issue. Should I try less tension same string? Go up in string gauge to get more power with less effort? Get a string designed to help with tennis elbow? Any help here would be appreciated, thanks.

@@mario17-t34 I assume you mean Babalot when you say BBLT? The pure drive is easier to hit than the clash 100 v2 pro with the same string and tension. I’m thinking it’s a tension and string type issue perhaps, but hopefully Harry can respond.

@@adamcaveproject8299 Correct = Babolat, Clash is 55 stiff, Babolat Drive = 72, which is much higher. So not sure what is going on. Let's assume that it's all individual . You will get eventually what you need -)

I do same strings mains and corrsses but different gauge. 16 mains and 17 crosses

Alu power rough main, Luxilon Element cross, both at a high tension with the cross 2 lbs higher, you’re welcome. From my experience, you want something soft in the cross and use the main for your spin and control.

@@nakmuay5034 I’ve tried it every way possible, the softer string feels much better when it’s slightly tighter. Plus, to each their own. There’s no “correct way”. I string at 57/59, if it’s too soft it’ll feel trampoline like, which is what I can’t stand.

Tour Bite... But Lynx Tour is better except spin

I feel the the hyper g..hold tension like very wellll..but wouldn't recommended for people with arm issue though..its quite stiff.

If you put 18 in the mains it will break very very quickly. I play with 17 G Confidential in mians and 20 G Hyper G in the crosses. I have been doing this for over a year and not one single time have I broken the 20Gauge in the crosses. The Mains take most of the pressure and will always break first. I've been playing competitively and stringing racquets for 44 years.

For singles I like Ultra Cable mains + Black Code 4S crosses

4G/Big Banger Original Mains and Element Rough Crosses - absolutely loved these ones Tried Hyper G mains and Element rough crosses but found it a bit too much

@@NeuralEngin33r Kirschbaum makes great strings, too! I've played with the Max Power 1.20/17. I have the Flash strung on my racket right now, but haven't played with it yet. Isospeed and some Stringlab Italia strings are made in Austria. You can feel the premium quality right away! They are sold at great prices, under 12€ per set. There's no reason paying 20€ for a set. It's too expensive. For example, the RS Lyon was great, but I'd prefer the Isospeed Black Fire as it's quite cheaper and almost equally as good.
