i hate headphones i never wear them i just hate so much hearing sounds right into my ears

So I never understood why folks wore them. Also, do laptops these days not have built in mics? My laptop and pc do, so no need for a mic, and no need for headphones. I still don't understand how headphones can magically let you not hear your pc make a notification sound, if you hear everything your mic picks up. Why wouldn't your mic also hear the notification sound? Windows loves to bother folks with notification sounds, I'll hear it in a video and laugh, like how did they not hear that? It's clear as day for me to hear it. The only reason I could find why folks wear them is so their pc or laptop can be quiet and not bother anymore near them, which I guess means they're somewhere in public. I had begun thinking more folks were just slightly deaf. When my kids school put headphones as a required school item I got confused, like why on earth would they need them for if they gonna be hearing the same thing at the same time from the teacher? It still makes no sense. The kids are quiet, the teacher talks, they in the same room so there shouldn't be any need for headphones, and yes I'm talking about them in computer class. I had a computer class too and there was no need for headphones.

1. Normally headphones do have better sound quality(even a better mic if you do own a headset) especially when compared to built in laptop speakers. 2. It prevents noises coming from the device's own speakers reach the mic being used. Instead the sound comes out through the headphones which means that little to no sound reaches the mic or anyone nearby. (Which means that the windows notification sound can only be heard by the owner of said windows device. Instead of reaching the mic and relaying the sound to others in the call) About your children being in the same room having the same teacher talking. It can just be plain annoying to hear the same sound come out of two devices especially when out of sync. Not to start about the fact that when your child unmutes the sound would make this super annoying and loud echo effect that is just unpleasant. Hope this helps :)
