Empty choruses work when the instrumental is good 😭 in fact, some songs, like Nmixx’s O.O have such good instrumental the the constant singing took away from it and distracted people from how good the whole thing actually is

​@@cosas_de_gatos This is called an instrumental chorus, not an empty chorus. Idk why people mix them up 😅 Instrumental choruses can be empty, but so can any kind of chorus - empty basically means it's lacking complexity/sounds incomplete

IVE's music has this "siren" like feeling to it if yk what I mean? The "oooh"'s in love dive made me want to repeat that part again and again, the same thing is in eleven in the post chorus the "aahhh" part has the same vibe, then in wave Liz and Gaeul each has a specific part before the chorus too with that feel again, and recently the chorus in holy moly does it again. It just feels like you're being hypnotized by sirens

Eleven and love dive marked ive as the romantic themed girl group. Back when you thought of ive youd think candy apples love hearts cupids bow, ethereal reds and pinks. Its difficult to explain but their debut image worked well.

Really wish IVE stuck to that concept. I don't think there are any mainstream groups with a "royal and elegant" concept. After Like just felt like Y2K whiplash and I still believe they only did it thanks to the Y2K fad in 2022. Now they're starting to go back to their roots in their newer songs with darker, more velvet-y sounds.

Here is my POV. Love Dive is a bold move in the kpop industry cause it returned to the basis of a good pop song while bringing new and old elements to the scene 1. Genre/Production: Love Dive is a mid-tempo dark pop song with a sexy alluring touch. Its rhythm resembled a lot of popular classic of the same kinds such as Alone by Sistar, Touch and Hush by Miss A, Something by Girl's Day. All of these were around 10 years prior. Midtempo dark pop and sexy concepts in general sorta died out in gen 3 as most idols in that genre were either following cute or girl-crush concepts with larger-than-life and experimental productions. Thatz why Love Dive bringing the good old game feels like a new breath to Kpop. Its production was very simple and minimal, focusing on classic percurssions such as snaps and let the vocals BE AN INSTRUMENT. In other words Love Dive is effective because it's back to the basics and didnot try to be overly complicated. Love Dive is influential because the song itself pioneered the minimalistic production trend that has been taking over gen 4. A lot of people credited New Jeans to create this miniminalist sonic landscape but it was actually this song that set the stone 2. Vocals IVE aint no powerhouse and they utilized what they had to the fullest. In a time where all idol groups are trying to sing in as high key as possible, IVE decided to stay low key, and that alone was already something refreshing. Instead of chasing the high singing trends, they focused on deliveries and layering. A lot of Kpop songs had a good beat with vocals on top of them, in a way even without the vocals, the instrumentals still sounded really good. But IVE's vocals became such an intergral part of the production for not only Love Dive, but also in all their other singles that without them, the instrumentals just wouldnt work. 3. Aesthetics Love Dive succeeded because it exceeded the promise it teased. I remember when the concept photos came out, everyone thought they looked tacky as if they were taken from a 2000s photo booth. But when the video came out, it became a visual experience. Everything, every detail from the video spoke a work of art, from the color scheme, to the outfits, settings and CGI, everything was meticulously chosen and that kept u coming back for more and the more times u watched the video, the more times the song would be played, and by that time, u will be hooked to it, even if u might not like the song at first listens

the main reason why love dive seems like they're so "in love" with themselves is likely due to their concept of narcissus, which was practically the theme of eleven and was likely continued here as well. it's probably the reason why I'm still so obsessed with it

I think Love Dive could be my SOTD ! (Song of the decade)

I've always seen their early songs as siren sounding. With Love Dive being the main one. The way the ooohs and lalalas are sung sound like they are luring you in, invinting you to let them entrance you. Put you under their spell. Allure you with their charm and make you their fan, and it works so well for them.

I cant believe its been 2 years already! Thank you wonyoung for getting starship to agree to love dive! Its not mu favorite song of theirs but i still love it so so much

For me, it's the heavenly sound and concept, and how SSE was able to build up the hype. The song itself has a double meaning: "love diving" and "loving dive (us fans)," which is somewhat bold and touching. The concept also fits IVE perfectly, and it's the kind of concept that only IVE can pull off, so it brings out their charm. "Dear Cupid" also helped build anticipation for the song, just like "HAVE WHAT WE WANT" did during IVE's debut. I still can't believe how SSE chose not to continue doing it in the next comeback (teaser videos like "Dear Cupid" and "HAVE WHAT WE WANT"). And to add, Gaeul looks insanely good in short hair too, so fans are going crazy!

Am I the only one who was mainly attached by "narcissistic, my God I love it...."?

Okay so 🤓☝️ I looked into the concept of love dive a little bit further and the connection between it and greek mythology. Because what does it mean when you take a love dive? In greek mythology Narcissus (which is where the word narcissist comes from) falls in love with his own reflection in the water then dives into it and drowns. The mv also hints at greek mythology. But this is just my theory after all.

The vocalization HOOKED me when I heard it. I didn't like Eleven too much and listening to K-POP songs, I'm skeptical until I like the chorus, and I wasn't really impressed until THAT came in and I died it was so good (I literally learned the dance the same day it came out bc I was obsessed)

I am not IVE fan, however I acknowledge that the music they release is so good and work for them very well. From each relase of IVE there is at least one song that I add to my playlist or come back to listen to from time to time. Tuning in for the next comeback this month.

I think its the ooss and vocalization that sells this song.every song that uses vocals as an instrument in kpop has done well in terms of popularity. In attention njs drag outattention making it soothing for our ears to listen. In viviz maniac the ooh ooh part adds a whole another layers to the song. in yooas no voyage, akmu dinosaur, gidle hwaa, ive eleven, stayc teddy bear, these are all thst i could think of right now but i feel like the vocalization sold this song really well

I’ll think about it! I really like the song and it’s made me appreciate the group more, but I’ll have to collect my thoughts 😭

Not only song was good but the huuuuge part of their success played their CONCEPT. They had a very stylish and strong concept with eleven and love dive, since then I think that maybe some creative manager left the company or smth but in my opinion they lost their special charm. The difference between Eleven+Love Dive and then After Like was like enormous. Suddenly it felt like they were nugu which is OK, but sosnt make any sense to release smth like that after such strong beginning. They felt like the leaders of the generation which could even go beyond like Girls Generation and Twice and I still see it when I look at first two releases. I am still rooting for the group but I think there was and is some problem within the management in their company because they are clearly wasting girls potential

I actually diverge from the consensus because I like the I've Mine EP and the I've IVE b-sides much more than IVE's first 5 TTs. But I do find Love Dive a very interesting song because it is unique. There definitely is something compelling about the narcissism that I think only IVE could pull off this well. I think my qualm is the beat. It's quite rigid without much syncopation, so it feels like the song is anxiously keeping up with a clock rather than confidently settling in a groove. But also at the same time I can't deny that for some listens in the right context, I do enjoy the anxious vibe. Not many songs are this enigmatic to me, and that makes it interesting.

Same! I think it’s going to be my favorite IVE song for quite a while, I hope they explore similar areas sonically and lyrically sometime in the future!

I think for me it works because it feels fresh everytime I listen to it and I never get bored.

I agree that the kpop industry needs more melodramatic songs bc it brings more depth esp lyrics-wise and music-wise. If you're looking for songs with a similar vibe like love dive I recommend listening to firework by &team 😊

i don't know what the song talks about i just know i thought it wasn't the best song but it's my most listened song in the last 2 years. so i actually love it.

i rememeber that the teasers caught a lot of attention, they were very unique, then the tt being really good sealed the deal (a case where it didn't happen was super lady- great pics, everyone was tuned in and in the song ended up being disappointing)
