I would of paid extra if they had a choice of fan upgrades like Noctua and Corsair if that was one of customize options when I get my R11. Again great video and thanks for sharing and your time.

Hi. I agree with you on this but in all fairness for the price they are charging quiet and efficient fans should have been the default anyway. The fact they are using old tech on these fans is just bizarre.

I have watched this video about 3 times as I’m getting ready to upgrade my R11 fans. Do you think a 20-40mm Noctua will be a good idea to keep that vram heat sink area cooler? Will it be worth doing that? Thanks for your reply.

Hi. Don't think it will affect RAM or power components much, you would need more direct flow for this.

I am no expert on this tuff but I'm trying to change my fans. What I'm finding is that the noctua fans run at 2000rpm max while the stock dell fans seem to run at 4000rpm max. Does this mean you need 2 noctua fans to achieve the same as 1 stock fan?

Noctua NF-A12 is max 2000 rpm and NF-F12 is 1500 rpm. so my question is which one to be connected to 4 pin side of the Y- connector to obtain full performance from both fans.

Great stuff! I just bought one waiting for it to be here. Ryzen 9 5900 with the higher 3400mhz ram, and the Nvidia RTX 3080. They are back ordered on the GPU's so waiting till EOM to have them ship it. They are like 1.5 months for delivery right now. I'm going to buy 3 of those Noctura fans. They sound amazing! Can they all be the same size? Or does one of them have to be a slim style? Did you happen to test the noise with just the intake and the push fan? I may just do the two fans. You mentioned in your most execellent install video you could have used either but your setup has the slim and standard fans. Noctua NF-F12 PWM 12V 0.05A (0.6W) front top intake Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM 12V 0.14A (1.68W) front bottom intake, case top exhaust. PS I bought a 1500VM APC Smart UPS-C for this beast as well...it's still in the box. It is supposed to support up to 1000watts.

Hi. To be perfectly honest if I had a choice right now I would buy anything but this PC. Obviously depending on where you are, prebuilts are popping up left and right with much better components. As for Noctua fans - go with standard, no need for slims. Noise wise there is a slight hum but nothing as bad as Dell.

Whats you thoughts on the new Alienware pre-build which is aurora r13, because its gonna use intel 12th gen CPU and has liquid cooling with a awesome side panel. Performance is upgrade in comparison 👏

Hi. Honest thoughts? Stay away from Alienware. Even with scalper prices you can get a better deal building one yourself. And it will be a better performing, cooler running and quieter rig with plenty of upgrade options.

Very interesting video, thank you. I have more or less the same rig (R10 with a Ryzen 5900X and an RTX 3080) and I haven't done any mods yet. I use my computer for gaming mainly. Clearly, the cooling performance is bad and the stock fans are REALLY loud. I got rid of AWCC and I have been using Open Hardware Monitor to control the case and top fans and MSI Afterburner to control the GPU fans. With a very aggressive fan setup under OHM, I manage to keep my CPU temps below 70 degrees Celsius while gaming intensively, but that means that my TOP FAN has to run at very high speeds most of the time, which is unbearably loud. This seems to suggest that swapping the stock top fan for a more Premium model (like the Corsair Ml120 Pro) would be a great idea, but would such a fan be enough to match the stock one in terms of speeds and efficiency? I cannot be sure. According to OHM, the stock top fan can run at up to 4000 rpm! A push/pull setup with 2 Corsair fans might do the trick, but your testing suggests that such a setup does not really help the CPU temps much. Would the ideal solution not simply be to swap the stock fans (case and top) for equivalent or better - but quieter- aftermarket ones? I think it is clear by now that the top fan will be spinning fast no matter what, so might as well get one that does not spin too loud... What say you?

Yes, replacing fans does not seem to make any difference in terms of thermal performance. It does however reduce the noise of the system quite significantly. Making exhaust solution as push pull and introducing extra intake would lower the temps by few degrees and keep it much quieter so if that's what you are into it is worth it. As for making thermals better I can only think of 280 rad on top as a solution which is obviously not feasible without modding and good bit of money spent.

@@Edsdrafts hi, thank you for your reply. I agree with you that replacing the whole aio does not make any sense. Might as well return the whole thing to Dell or sell it off. However, what I am trying to figure out is if any of these recommended aftermarket fans (Noctua or Corsair) will blow as much air (or more) out as the stock top fan, which is pretty sizeable. Can you confirm that? In my experience, keeping CPU temps around 70-75 degrees is possible, but extremely loud with the stock fans. So, since the ONLY way to keep my CPU temps down is to have the top fan spinning at top speed, I just need to find one that will do the same job as the stock one, but more quietly. In short, if quieter means less efficient, then I am not sure it is worth it.

Hard to tell. One fan spinning at 2000RPM for liquid cooling rad might not be the same as massive one Dell uses spinning nearly twice as fast. But two will definitely be better in both thermals and acoustics.

The single fan radiator just can't keep up with your CPU. Adding fans will not help since its water cooled (as you have clearly shown). Only the base cpu should be bought unfortunately with these computers,

Do you use the same offset on the front fans?

Hi. As far as I remember there's no way for it unless you remove the top cover and fit from other side of the case. It won't look as nice but should be a bit better performance wise. I think I tried it without securing the fan though - it wasn't anything spectacular. You might need a better case and a 280 rad for it.

Two points: 24:19 min. - you could also mount a push-pull configuration. Videos about that on youtube. - and you should maybe also open up the gpu for adding more thermal paste around the gpu-chip. Just watch the youtube-video: "Dell Alienware Aurora R10/R11/R12 nVidia RTX 3080 GPU Temperature Fix | STOP the Thermal Throttling!"

Hi. True however on quick test involving push pull I found only few degrees difference on CPU side under load. It's in the video as well. As for GPU my one runs at very reasonable temps and performance is solid, no issues there. Mind you, RTX 3080 is another 30% on power consumption and much more heat so no wonder. Overall this case and CPU radiator is just not good enough. Basic - sure, performance - nope.

Is it okay that my r10 (ryzen 7 5800x, rtx 3060ti) can go up to 95 degrees e Celsius. On minecraft it goes past 80 degrees Celsius. Is this bad?

Hi. Strictly speaking within specs. In my personal opinion - unacceptable. But Dell been selling these without any remorse and I am sure they were well aware of it. I sincerely hope this will be my last Dell PC. I love Lenovo hardware for office kit, Dell not so much. But once hardware is back in shops I am building one from scratch for sure.

Nothing wrong with that. You can then learn the components, do upgrades and build next one yourself if you want to.

same here but i have got upgraded from R7 5800 Oem and RX 6600XT then new processor R7 5800X and RX 6700XT very close the case it pretty well

I like my alienware r10... sure for the money i could have a bettre pc i guess... yes the fans r loud and when im gaming the cpu hit 90° and the gpu around 80° but still working just like the first day i got my pc. If i could go back in time will i buy the same pc?... idk but what i can say, i have no regrets buying this pc

spend 120$ on a h60 cooler and 2 120ml pro fans for the front and you will have temps in the 70s and the lifespan and performance will triple.

@@gabrielcollazo6835 i have the same r10 as you lol it is very loud when I play games like d2 and I find that when I cap my frames at 120 it drops to a consistent 90-100 after a bit of playing. I’m probably going to get the same upgrades as you to get the best out of this thing and make it quieter

Ich hock leider auch in der selben Sch.... ! Hätte ich das vorher gewusst, hätte ich mir auch lieber einen selber zusammen gebaut. Die Leistung vom PC ist klasse. Aber die Lüfterlautstärke ist unverschämt. Hat schonmal jemand drüber nachgedacht eventuell es gegen ein anderes Gehäuse zu tauschen und dann gleichzeitig einen neuen Radiator mit einzubauen?

I seriously thought something was wrong with mine when the fans kicked on the first time. Sounded like a Dyson firing up. Gotta get me some of those ugly brown fans.

Yep, it is very loud on stock. You can also get dark grey Noctuas and they are a bit cheaper.

Brown are better performing and longer lasting I believe so no harm.

What would the point be in this? I believe Dell already uses someone's product and brand as theirs, it is 120mm and has a thick 120mm fan on it (and extremely loud). Most people use Noctua coolers for solid on air cooling or at least 240mm liquid cooling setup to match. Single fan liquid cooling is just not enough in this setup.

Depends on application you are running. Might simply be my CPU is just lower quality silicone bin. I have changed the paste, checked few times after each application, checked different fans and speeds - not much change.

There's a lot of stupid quirks with these models and you can improve them a lot and make them run and play fine. The fan quality really is a complete joke though and customers should not have to do this for something advertised as top of the line. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they could've upgraded them to this quality for even less than five to ten euros too. Being Dell they must have tremendous resources and cut deals on hardware that other manufacturers would only dream of. That they cheaped out on them so bad is pretty much indefensible to me. (Also this model shouldn't be being sold without water cooling. Air cooling the CPU in this setup is ridiculous and will only screw over unknowing customers)
