I spent a week in Caldas this past May and I loved it so much I didn’t want to leave. I spent hours at that same park walking around or just relaxing by the pond and enjoying the view. It was my favorite city in Portugal. I can’t wait to go back.

Another excellent video. Thanks for the tour! It looks like a fantastic small city, particularly the market and the parks. I agree that the buildings are colorful in Portugal. But I don’t think Spain’s buildings are generally grayer. Undoubtedly, Spain is littered with some eyesores. But in Seville, where I live, the historic center is full of colorful buildings, most of which are painted white, blue, red, and various pastel colors. Cádiz, to the south, is also full of colorful buildings, some of which actually remind me of the ones you typically find in Portugal. In short, I think Spain is too big (by European standards) and complex a country to make generalizations about its having grayer architecture than its undeniably beautiful neighbor. Thanks again for the video, and I look forward to the next one! Have a nice weekend!

Took your advice and visited Aveiro while we were there and also Coimbra too, both by train from Porto. Train services are cheap, run on time and are a good and much cheaper alternative to hiring a car in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

Lovely video Stuart, I have lived in the Algarve for some 17 years now and sometimes wonder if I made the right (Portuguese) choice of residence - the main attraction of the 'Deep South' is the mild winter. BTW, those tomatoes were inexpensive, I think, because they needed ripening...and the 'pumpkins' were actually butternut squash. Totally delicious fried in olive oil.

Still watching, Stu. Just been very busy settling in on the family ranch, trying as I am physically able to work on a long punch line of cleaning and house maintenance for my mom and my brothers since I returned. I've had a bad spell physically for the last couple of months so it had been slow progress, but I've been on the upswing the last couple of weeks. Regardless, trip preparations are being made, and the itinerary is firming up for sometime around mid August. I probably won't make it up to Caldas this time around, but that general area is on my list of places to visit in the coming years. After planned detours to Vinaroz and Madrid, I'm heading south to Cadaz, Rota, Faro, with points in between. Probably won't stay as long as I had originally planned, depends on financial reserves and what business pops up that needs to be addressed Stateside, but I plan on staying as long as my budget and the Spanish Government will allow me. Hasta Pronto!

As a Portuguese, I would never live in Caldas by my own choice. The weather is incredibly changeable: one day it is grey and foggy, the next day it is sunny and quite hot (I'm talking about the summer). The park is just regular when compared to many other Portuguese parks. There isn't much to do besides going to the shopping centre. The market is the only thing I find unique in Caldas. Vegetables and fruit are grown by those who sell them, that's why they are cheaper and fresher. The most typical thing in Caldas are the ceramics, where the male genitals are often the main local attraction. I'm sure Stuart saw them on display in many shopwindows!😄
