Not always. This was 1983. There were no databases back then and sharing information among all police departments in the country was near impossible. There are many missing girls that were never found. There have been bodies found and not identified. Now that DNA has advanced, it is a bit easier to identify the found bodies. The family could be desperately searching but they are dependent upon police to solve the case. With lack of funds and manpower, these horrible cases go unsolved.

I've seen that the process for filing a missing person's report wasn't that cut and dry back then. There was one family in a different case that filed a report and it was lost. Another family had a hard time with the cops not taking them seriously....so it was a mixed bag back then. Also, they often would make parents wait 48 hrs before they could file a missing person's report on a missing child. Whatever the case may be - I hope they identify Precious Hope soon.

Exactly. As sad as it is, not every child HAS a family. And considering the time period, the neighborhood, and - unfortunately - the girl's skin color, there's a pretty high likelihood she may have been not only an orphan/foster kid, but also a runaway who simply had no one who would care about her enough to go looking for her or report her missing. It's a truly tragic case, no matter what the circumstances.

"Why aren't they talking about this case?" Why aren't they talking about most murders? Because there are too fucking many murders. My friend was beat to death with a brick and then driven over with a car about 4 or 5 times. There were bloody tire tracks in her yard from where her killer drove off in the same car they mutilated her corpse in. Never hear them talk about her murder either. Hey maybe one of them is getting around to covering it. But at least you're being the change you wish to see in the world and covering the murder your own self. Btw there is still a law in place stating your spouse does not have to testify against you in court.

Truth. My father's two brothers were led out to the woods by an older teen for camping. He raped them decapitated them both, carved stuff into their bodies, just did so many unspeakable things to their bodies, but you'll never heard much about it aside from alabama murphy boy murders in some old newspapers. It's really sad. I think his point was both of our cases were solved and no one seems to give a shit about this poor little girl.

@@heathertaylor8904 well, my grandfather killed a man during the Sanitation Workers Strike in Memphis in the 60s, and was never arrested for that crime, in fact it was never even spoken of in the papers. My father was the oldest child and had vague memories of a black man being tied up in the back yard and his dad fucking with him, "to keep them in their place" he remembers his dad said that, and then one day the man was gone and you know my dad thought surely he just let him go he was like 4 years old so he prob didnt think much since he grew up in a hell of violence, constantly...and considered killing his dad his own self as he got older and my aunts remember plotting to poison his food because he beat the f out the whole family and the neighbors, but no one ever did, and he managed to grow old and one day my dad, after many years of not speaking to him, went to visit him and he said, "you know I remember you tied a black man up in our yard when I was a kid...thats crazy. What did you do with him after that?" And my grandfather said, "well you don't actually think I could have let him go after that?!" 🤦🏻‍♀️ and we don't know the man's name to even tell the family he didn't run off on them or abandon them. Not even a first name. Yea, no one gave a shit about his murder either. Black man in the 60s during a civil rights protest in memphis tn goes missing? Yea the police weren't too pressed, and my grandfather never even heard about it again except from my dad who I bet he thought didn't remember, and it was such a impulsive murder (he saw the man walking down the street jumped out of the car and beat him unconcious and locked him in the trunk until he got home where he tied him up inside a shed in the country where he lived) that I often wonder if that was his only hate crime murder/murder in general. I wish every murder case could be solved ot at least identified. The victims deserve that at the very least.

@@lionheartmerrill1069 no. Back in 1983 not many had even heard of DNA and I believe it was 1986 when DNA was first used to solve a crime. At least if I’m remembering right. The local police really did go all out on this. My theory is she was from out of town. In 1983 I had friends that didn’t have telephones and you had to go to their house to see if they could go out and play. Most people only had one tv and we had like 6 channels 😂. And my circle was regular middle class people. I think she was abducted OR was maybe even taken with her family’s knowledge by a family member or friend. She had been well nourished and taken care of but even if her family had some means they may have just never been able to track her down. If they were poor, it would be more difficult. So when most people were only getting local news her family probably never heard of this case. It’s also not completely unusual that a missing persons report not be filled out or her local police dismissed her as a runaway.

My guess is it's either labeled something that doesn't come up in a search or KZread removed some of the stories in one of their keyword apocalypses. That being said, I have repeatedly requested someone cover Kelly Nolan from Madison WI, who no one has covered and her family is still trying to solve her murder. Even local media, which has probably given it all the media they are going to, haven't really followed up on the case much except certain anniversaries. A simple search of her name on KZread brings up press releases. Maybe you could cover it and people would take notice. Personally, I think it was someone the police suspect but can't mention for political reasons. ie: A local prominent citizen or their kin.

@@Misssssysparkles I just saw a case where a boy who was found murdered in 1999 in the Atlanta area was finally identified. It turns out he was 6 years old and was murdered by his own mother. My speculation is the family was possibly involved in Jane Doe's murder. In the 1980s, there was widespread reports of satanic cult conspiracies in the news, with reports of heinous crimes such as sacrificed children. I am no expert on cults or murders in general, but decapitation seems to fit in with rituals of sorts, not to mention Jane Doe's head was never found. I am even going further to suggest if this girl was sacrificed in some sort of ritual, rumors in the 80s suggested that prominent people were involved in some of these cults, and if there is the possibility of a ritual killing, and it involved prominent people, they would obviously want to throw investigators off track. Who better to use as a scapegoat than Vernon Brown?

Seems to me that, in a fair amount of cases, the family of the missing and unidentified don't give a damn, or they'd be looking. If the family isn't pushing to keep the case alive, it will eventually just fall by the wayside.

I'm under the belief that as many people speaking about these crimes, the better. There shouldn't be gatekeeping of speaking about crimes and victims of the crime. Just because one person chooses to bring light to it in one way and someone another, doesn't mean they're doing it wrong or right. To some, having a youtuber going to a cemetery or a location of a crime is more disrespectful, and to others it's a form of respect. It's truly all based on their own biased opinion. I, for one, appreciate watching both.

Kat Rabbit- I respect your statement. Sometimes showing the location of the crime, the surroundings of buildings present and past. Might help someone remember something. Maybe someone told a story about this but didn’t say where. So instead of just talking about it without giving an idea of where it happened can be confusing. This little girl was harmed and it’s very bothersome when she can’t be identified due to her situation. We can all share away, with a caption of “WHO IS MISSING A a YOUNG GIRL “ Only thing is we don’t have a picture to share.

We have a similar story here in my home town of Opelika Alabama. There was a little girl found in 2012 and has not been identified. They were able to do a drawing of what she would have looked like , and because of a unique feature with one of her eyes, they have a photo of what they believe is her at a vacation bible school. This one is so frustrating. Because someone knows this little girl. And it has been 10 years now. I have a small youtube channel and will probably do a video on this. But my channel won't get the exposure that yours would. So if you ever make it out this way. Look into this story. And if you do. it would be great to meet you , grab a beer or something. Anyway, thanks for telling this story and for doing what you do.

It never leaves you. It’s sad she was a sweet girl and kind person and I’ll never forget her. I hope Jane Doe gets her justice. RIP Jane Doe and my childhood friend BM ✝️❤️‍🔥✝️

What a tragic horrific case! I don't understand why "hate crimes" receive so much more attention, than violent crimes against children. Even in the trial stage especially, "first time offenders" get a slap on the wrist. But rob a bank... 20 years minimum. There is no cure, for a sexual deviant.

As an obsessed true crime fan since I was a little girl I can say this case always haunted me as well. I also think of this little precious girl every time I hear of ST. Louis and stir on the details of her death and how her life may have been. By the fact that no one in her family has stepped forward after all this time to look for her likely means her family was somehow negligent in the care of this baby girl. How can you not hear this story and not want to help her. She may not have had love in life, but in death she’s loved by all of us and is everyone’s beloved daughter now! This is Anne Frank kind of tragic.😭😭😭
