    @@michaelgriffiths7937 For quite a while he's been contracted for (from memory) 18 races, even back in the ITV days he'd usually miss one race a year (initially due to Le Mans). Remember he is 64 and not short of a bob or two so no surprise he doesn't want to spend almost half the year away from home. As for the studio get used it Comcast are saving money just as it was no shock when almost as soon as they bought Sky they started adding adverts in between sections of quali.

    All Martin wants to do now is like the best races or the most important ones so he says. And I get it not a spring chicken no more good thing cpme to a end we was all gutted when Murray Walker stopped. But he just stopped period. I can still remember the first grid walk aswell with Martin. 24 races it's a long year hey

    I can see the commentators not doing every race. 24 is too many for anyone, especially with the fly-aways. I agree about the studio. I hate that augmented reality studio they are using.

    Having Martin and Karun together on the same podcast is definitely worth a watch. The only two competent professional on Sky Sport F1 that speak knowledge as opposed to empty words.

    Martin and Karun are by far the best pundits on Sky, their combined knowledge counts for 99% of what Sky offer. 😂 Let’s add Bernie and Ant to the list, forgot about them. 👍

    Was just about to post the same thing! What happened to best-of-breed fast and nimble cars dancing around the track? I've only gone to one race since this change and was horrified by how cumbersome and clunky the cars were compared to what I was used to. That's surely not what F1 should be about?

    Why do you care if the cars are electric or more complicated? If the racing is good, i dont care if it runs on dreams and rainbows. Running electric doesnt prevent that, neither does a complicated car, and neither does having a heavier car (if it makes the cars less reactive to aerowash).

    @@sergeykuznetsov8291it’s not even the risk, refuelling results in worse racing, it takes overtaking off the track. Common scenario back then you’re behind a driver on a lighter fuel load, you can push to get track position or just wait until they pit and bank qualifying laps and overcut them. Until the final sprints there would be even less in track action with it, which is why it won’t be coming back

    @@RD-wg9emeveryone says that but Indycar and many other series have great racing AND fuel strategy. When they got rid of refuelling Alonso went on to lose his championship sitting behind Petrov. It improved nothing. It was DRS that fixed that to some degree. The sport with DRS and refuelling could be awesome.

    @@Alan.livingston indycar is a spec series and even then drivers forgo battles to preserve pace for their strategy. The racing is great but refuelling still hinders it. In f1 every season following the ban has seen an increase in overtaking on track when compared to pre ban levels. The refuelled overcut was vastly more powerful than even DRS is currently. There were alot more races like Belgium 2002 that have simply been forgotten to time because they weren’t worth remembering, before the ban came in

    I have been an F1 fan since 1970 I have always watched live practices and qualification until this last couple of seasons because the last 5yrs has gotten continuously boring. It's so predictable that this season I haven't even watched a qualification, I only watch the highlights on KZread. When the only interesting thing about F1 is not the racing or the cars but who's in trouble and who's doing what to whom then F1 has lost the plot. I know that I am only one fan, but I believe F1 has gone the same way as a lot of other sports, it's not about the fans it's about the money.

    I try to watch this sky podcast every week. Most times however I simply can't make it past halfway. Enter MB (and Karun when with Brundle) and I'm transfixed by the the conservation. He makes so much sense. His insight is unsurpassed IMHO.

    F1 should consider backing up the 2026 regs to 27 or 28, scrapping the new engine regs & instead going with V8-10 sustainable fuels.

    Martin overtook me once. Many years ago, just outside Thetford, Norfolk, I was doing 70mph, and he shot passed me in his Silver Ferrari. I gave him a thumbs up and it made my day as I'm a big fan.

    Toto Wolff didn't seem to be too sympathetic to the other teams when Mercedes was winning virtually every race, year after year. Still, it would be nice to see some actual competition for the win. Could the Honda power unit deserved some of the credit for Red Bull's success? Only the Red Bull Junior team (whatever they're called nowadays) has access to that device.

    @@Redlingstein Complex electro-mechanical systems, like F1 cars, are usually not successful based on any one component. Where is RB? Well, where is Haas, or Sauber, in the standings? They have the same engine as the Ferrari team, allegedly. So, it's the whole system, not just the engine. Still, as Red Bulls scream past other cars, on the straights, it's a little about the engine (and Adrian Newey's superb aero design).

    @@FrontWing-EndPlate the teams would comply by pulling out and killing the series. Without meaningful r&d being done the returns on investment just won’t be there. It’s unfortunate but the new engine regs are proof positive of this. The teams had a significant say and we see the result.

    Why 2026 is crucial? It's crucial, because if Red Bull is the best at decoding and applying regulations again, we will most likely see Max as 7 or 8 time world champion. Brits will declare war on Netherlands :D

    I feel like if they can't settle on tye details of the new regs this late in the game, there's no shame or harm in delaying them a year or two. Of course that'd mean an extra year or two of Redbull/Max domination (which I'm perfectly fine with btw) but the Brits and British media would lose their minds.

    It is crucial if it’s more of the same and Max is walking of from pole every race then more people will turn off, seeing Mercedes Dominating for as long as they did has made people tired I guess. Funny how the whole of Holland was crying it was the car when Lewis was winning, now F1 is great because Max is winning in a Newey Rocketship.

    The most worrying feedback on the competitiveness of Red Bull came from Chris Harris, who was live at Bahrain for race one. Max’s car seemed to have a misfire on lap 3, before he was told that it was that Max had gone onto fuel-save mode, which switches one of the cylinders off…..On lap 3!

    I can't believe how Hulkenberg isn't being mentioned for a one year deal at Mercedes or to replace Sergio. He finally has a formula that suits his driving style and he's on top form. Other than one Autosport guy, it's shocking he's being under-appreciated so much.

    I think the cars have become longer and wider and heavier. I think in theory a shorter wheelbase car could be more chuckable.

    @@danielainger8666 I’m going to have to disagree there. I remember before these current cars, as soon as a car got within a second or so of the car ahead, they’d lose a huge amount of performance due to the aero of the car ahead then have to drop back if they couldn’t pass after a couple of laps. Whereas now, it definitely feels like cars can follow much closer

    I think its absolute bullshit this is suppose to be the fastest and the best motorsport category and the idea of making cars purposely NOT to the maximal potential is just dumb, I get that it might promote better racing blah blah blah, you know what else would promote better racing? If the cars were lighter and smaller. And all the net zero stuff is just bullshit F1 themselves calculated their carbon footprint thing and turns out actual cars on tracks make up only 0.7% of the total carbon footprint in a Formula 1 season, the rest is just traveling and shipping the equipment.

    The only reason I stuck with Sky was for Martin’s commentary. Not using him for 1/3 of the season won’t inspire me to keep paying next year !! 🤪

    They should take race damage from crashes etc out of the budget cap. Maybe teams and drivers will take more risks then. It would benefit F2 drivers.

    Japan coverage was the FIRST time I've seen a tyre availability comparison ( even though it missed out the softs ! ) AT LAST !! Why have they not done this before ?     The current cars are only as long as they are because designers want to make the sidepods and rear cowl into the aero shapes they are. Yeah, there's some crash structures, but they could make the cars much shorter and still have hybrid. The easiest way to make them lighter is to got back to ICE only and ditch all the batteries, ERS etc, without the massive torque, they can make the wheels & tyres lighter.

    Wait til 2026 when the batteries that provide 50% of a car's power will have to be scrapped after a crash. That's the case with EV's now, where if the battery case is even scratched in a mishap, the car goes off warranty and, in addition, cannot be insured. This happened to a guy in Canada. It's on YT.

    Batteries can be repairable. You cannot equate (some) road cars where this is a problem with F1 cars. I don’t want batteries in F1, but your take is wrong.

    Thought it was common knowledge that they're delaying the regulations for as long as possible to tighten up the field. Red bull could start now and just field their 24 car next year and still win. It does make sense

    Martin looks tired. I hope he’s okay. There are no good news stories in F1 behind Max. It all feels very stale and stagnant. I’ve never seen such a margin of dominance that Max has and the others all know it. It puts Red Bull’s advantage into perspective; there is so much talent in the sport, yet they’ve all been flummoxed by Red Bull. As dull as that makes it, it’s massively impressive.

    Off topic but I actually miss Jake Humphreys when he was covering F1 before retiring to become a dad I believe and then returning to football commentary. I think Brundle is smart in being selective of what races he attends because of the bigger calendar and doesn't want to commmute everywhere. However I do wonder how long is contracted for with SKY Sports F1 and who is most likely to takeover his role.

    Ferrari’s huge boost in stock price when LH signed was due to Q4 financial report and future earnings. Please stop spreading misinformation, LH was definitely not the reason behind the stock increase, probably just clever timing from the team.

    I'm not sure the regulation changes result in better racing. What would have been amazing is if there were no regulation changes in 2022, RB had closed the gap, Mclaren were making leaps and bounds, pity Ferrari tried to cut corners, Williams would certainly be in business. DRS has taken the joy out of overtakes and you've got to be close enough to put it to use anyway

    The best thing f1 can do with the regs is nothing. We always see the teams closing up greatly just before the new regs start. Just leave it, forget more electric and batteries. If anthing give them a standard vanilla active suspension and maybe remove a little top surface areo

    I doubt Red Bull Racing would bring Carlos Sainz to compete against Max Verstappen. Currently, Red Bull Racing is comfortable with their drivers not racing each other within the team, and they will likely aim to maintain this setup. On the other hand, the Sainz family's strong ties with Audi might mean that Carlos could secure a seat with Sauber, even if it means spending at least a year racing in the midfield

    I'm not a fan of trying to bunch up the midfield. That is what these regulations have done. We need a fight at the front and the top teams should be able to spend more money to develop more throughout the year.

    2026 is very close when a big rule change is coming... does it still seem like teams will need to harvest electric energy from the ice? I understand 50/50 being desirable but burning fuel to top up battery seems inefficient (happy to be wrong) which counters the reason they're increasing the battery portion anyway? Seems like so much to resolve in very little time.

    @@Redlingstein there's talk that front and rear wings will have active aero to compensate for the engine regs - otherwise cars will be slowing on straights to charge batteries. They want to use active aero to avoid cars having to slow on the straight. Its still ground effects but adding active aero is still a major change.

    The odds of what I’m about to say coming to fruition is probably close to zero. Let’s say Sainz somehow won the drivers-championship this year. Is there a stipulation in Leclercs contract where Ferrari kick him out, and keep Carlos? I’m not saying this is what I want, but i’m just curious of the different angles. Thoughts?

    Checo had an issue in Australia, which is why he did not finish higher. Carlos will never drive again in the same team where Max is! Carlos Sr. and Jos together (again) in the same pit will not end well...
