Recently added a turbo to the Shady80. At 350k on the clock the transmission wasn't really happy about the added power and was flaring badly on shifts. Decided to give the nomad a try to see if the increased line pressure would help. Spoiler alert, it did :). Shifting is much more firm and actually when it should be. I don't have many miles on it yet but so far it's been a vast improvement.

    Hi All. Just finished doing this myself. I can add a few tips. After you remove the valve body etc. Clean the piston holes, springs holes etc. very well and make sure they are oil free. That way, especially if you use a thick assembly grease, they will stay in lace and its easy to do by yourself. Cheers

    Howdy Ryan. Thanks for this. I guess it’s the A343F trans I had asked about in one of your other recent posts. After reviewing the GM 6L80/90 series trans along with the LS swap, the GM trans seems very unreliable. Looks like keeping it all Toyota is once again the most reliable path. Good your valve body mods helps. I’m just mid way through viewing this.

    For now at least. I'm sure it's just a band aid considering it's on. 350k mile transmission behind a turbo engine.

    @OTRAMM I bought my triple locked 95 fj80 from a guy in Seattle. Drove it back to Arizona. Out of the blue, my radiator started leaking while parked in my driveway. I took off the cap, full of stop leak. I'm thankful that I made it 1500 miles. It's been sitting now for a while. I just started it and noticed water coming out of the exhaust with slight puffy white, not sure if it is smoke. I'm thinking about pulling the head. That is why I drown myself in your videos. Have a great weekend. 👍

    Oh man... all because you added the turbo...? I think that just confirms that I'm gonna keep my 80 as stock as possible personally. I've got a 01 turbo diesel 7.3l F350 as my second vehicle and it has lots of mods as well and also lots of little issues like this as well. Stock life is the best life i'm starting to learn.

    I’ve been watching your videos for some time now and have a 1993 80 series. I’m having a strange issue with mine simply cutting out and dropping to an idle. It stays there with no throttle response until it decides to come back into power and run like normal again. Been doing this for over a year. How can I contact you to get your thoughts or get my truck to you for repairs. I’ve done many many things but am at a roadblock at my tech level. It’s my favorite vehicle and don’t want to park it! Thank you in advance

    I d like to be more skillful at making a video- I got so much to pass on when it comes to how to avoid stuff ups- all good engineers pass on there knowledge, you sir are good because you make aware of potential mistakes prior to the uneducated go blindly where we went before, when I say uneducated I mean this gearbox model, this engine whatever, each ha e a secret way or trick to them. Never too old to learn- this is like a dream job except upside down dripping drops is opposite the norm👌. Your good very good- ✔️🇦🇺

    I'm curious why you didn't go with the transgo shift kit from summit. I used it for my turbo80 and it works great. Nice solid shifts if little clunky at light load higher rpm

    I actually had a trans go kit and gaskets on the shelf to install. I've done a bunch of them. Doing a video on a trans go soon. I decided to try something different and see how the Nomad did.

    @@OTRAMM how do you like the nomad valve body after some more miles? Holding up well to the turbo? Do you feel it is overly firm?

  • @OTRAMM

    @OTRAMM

    @@adammcjunkin6819 I like it. The 80 isn't my daily so it's only got maybe a couple hundred miles on the valve body. It seems too be helping the trans hold up. Shifts are definitely firm but not bad enough that my wife noticed 😂

    will this work in a 98 lx 470 with the 343f? Still going strong at 315k, but should it ever become necessary it's nice to have the video that's close similar enough once I get the pan off.

    @@OTRAMM Yeah I figured the internals are similar enough once I get the pan off that I can use the 100 part for the job following your lead. I can't imagine it was a whole rework of the unit since they were just using it until the a750 came into play. Do you recommend adjusting the kickdown cable play at any point to take up slack from age?

    Hello, good morning, I have a Toyota Land Cruiser 105 that runs on a petrol engine. Recently, I noticed the engine malfunction lamp lit on the dashboard. I also noticed that the oil indicator did not work or sometimes worked very slowly, not exceeding the first degree. What is the problem and the solution please? And does this affect the ability of the engine and the symptoms that may appear later.

  • @OTRAMM

    @OTRAMM

    You'll have to check the codes to know why the check engine light is on. The codes will tell you where to look for the problem so you can do specific testing. You'll have to verify oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to know if the oil pressure is actually low or the gauge/sender is bad.

    Hi Im a fan from the Philippines. I have an old box Prado. I believe I have the same tranny (A343F). My tranny gave up on me already. Wont make the vehicle move (D,R) i wonder if i need that valve body?

    A new valvebody likely won't fix a broken transmission. If it doesn't move you probably need a full rebuild.

    Hello sir. I purchased a 2000 lx 470 with 152k. Drove the car in 24 inch of water and a few days later the car sat idle for 20 min and experienced extreme heat from center console, the cats and the transmission start not to shift from 2nd gear to 3rd. Sometimes it works after I disconnect the battery terminal and wait for a few minutes to reconnect. I have checked the fluid. It is not burned and it is at the appropriate level. The car is not a daily driver. From time to time the transmission shifts well like nothing happened and sometimes it does not. Sometimes when I disconnect the battery it works fine or sometimes it does not. Please Help
