Look up precision transmission if you want a mechanic's experience on how an automatic transmission works. They pull them apart in minutes and will explain what does what, why it failed, what the manufacturers did differently in later models to fix issues, what they didn't, and many more in depth but easy to understand explainations. By the time you're done watching a few of their videos you'll feel like you could rebuild a transmission yourself.

Ronald, beat me to it. They really will let the average person know just what goes into an automatic transmission, transfer case or even a differential. Every time I drive my 10 speed auto now, I am thinking about all the parts I am wearing. :-)

Three key functions, transmission fluid: ● it provides lubrication of the moving parts ● cools down the gearbox ● takes part in the hydrolic system *Work cycle* ● from the oil pan it goes through the filter and from it into the oil pump ▪︎ The oil pump then forces it in the valve body of the mechatronic at high pressure ▪︎ Mechatronic regulates the pressure and distributes it to the torque converter and various suctions of the gear box ▪︎ After that the oil goes through cooling system and returns the transmission .

I like your 3d model of the automatic. The only complaint is during the diagnosis you said look for smell of antifreeze. I feel like it could of also have been a typo or whatnot, because antifreeze extracts heat from the engine. There were some minor typos like for the word standard at some moments. great basic breakdown of the valve guide

Thanks for the video instructions. I have 10HBA auto transmission. When I ran scanner I get the error code: P0864-00 (Invalid Signal from TCM). When I inspected the transmission I can hear noise inside, something like engaging and disengaging every second or so. When I moved the car, I noticed the car feeling like it was auto switching from drive to park then to drive snd so on. On the cluster I can see when I change to any other gear the icon is displaying the gear I selected then keeps jumping to park and back to the gear selected. I can't seem to find anything with similar issues on any auto transmission models. Just trying to workout what could be causing this before i get it towed to someone. Cheers

Hi , thanks so much for the video , I have a question and hope to get an answer regarding my transmission (2014 cla 250) .the question is about the transmission oil , is the transmission oil shared with the transmission electronic part oil ? I was told that the electronic part has its own oil and SEALED (which mean if metal shavings found in the transmission oil doesn’t mean that the metal shavings can get into the electronic part ). My transmission is bad and want to replace it with a used one , I’m wondering if I have to buy the electronic part separately or no , note that no lights at all in my dashboard . Thank you!

Okay. So a question. The car suddenly didn't go forward.(like neutral) But had reverse and Park. So disconnecting the cable at the brain box . It then clunks into all gears. (it's jackup on stands so the solid clunk could be because it's in the air).

Having just been through the process and cost of having my automatic transmission “remanufactured” your videos go a long way to explaining why it was costly. I’m keen to see Episode 4, there were a couple of hiccups and the car has been back to the repairer. The final result feels promising that all is well, smooth power delivery and up shifting and down shifting. Once I know what fuel economy is like I will know how well it is operating. (instead of 40K Kms/svc manual as oil was going brownish); just replaced transfer case ATF at 42K Kms. - should have done it at the same time as it was getting murky but was misled by the service manual about the transfer case ATF can be changed + 20K Kms. or so later if not used regularly (transfer case).

When a car groans and draws on engine load in “Park” position; is the clutch pack of the torque converter being compressed in fault? Faulty pressure relief ? It pulls engine idle higher in response to a draw of torque against it. * My transmission rebuilder was unsuccessful at remedying the issue. 700$ in - still the same shudder issues ; mostly at full stop involving lunging against braking at lights.; and idling in “P”. 1993 AW 03-71 L in Volvo 940.

Hi. I have a problem. I have a zf8hp45 transmission. When the car is HOT and when the gear shifts to the 2nd gear, if I take off my foot from the gas pedal just after the shifting, it makes a little movement to the front just like I am braking. its exactly about the shifting because there is no other problem if i take off the gas while the car's going. In DS mode it doesnt do that. The seleonids and turbine are new changed with original new parts. Can my hydraulic brain pistons have any fault or corrosion? In DS mode and when the car is cold , because the car is working with rich mixture, the pressure is good. otherwise can the pressure is low and making that mistake? Thanks a lot. Also after the transmission adaptation the car has no mistake in 100 km and then its become faulty. when we look before the adaptation , the clutch values are so increased or decreased. There is no diagnosis error. Thanks

There should be a flywheel in auto transmissions, they're just designed to harbor a torque converter rather than a clutch pack.
