Robert knows his stuff. He’s been able to talk with the old timers and really get into the history. Just waiting for him to write a book about Dodge and Cummins
I have an 89, my buddy bought it from a friend's car lot. After abusing it for 12 years he sold it to my dad. My dad drove it for several years then the trans went out, we fixed it and it's still going. My dad gave me the truck a year ago for my birthday. The best gift I have ever got! My old old friend truck them to my dad then to me. My old friend always told me that was the biggest mistake selling the truck. He a few ford's after that but always regret selling the best truck he ever owned.
WOW. Really nice Podcast! Very impressed with the speakers product knowledge.
I remember reading in either Peterson's Off Road or 4-Wheeling magazines a review of the 1978 Dodge diesel pick up. The writer discribed the acceleration as being imbarassing - "You know its slow when your being passed by a kid on a skate board!"
While I worked at Diesel injection Service the Bosch rep told us the main reason Dodge got away from the P7100 fuel pump because it was 1/3 the cost of the engine. It's always about the money.

I see you like to live on the wild side. I changed all fluids, oils and filters when I bought my used 08 6.7 with 207k miles on it. When I went underneath to change the atf and internal filter on the 68rfe I saw a reman tag on the transmission. Made me feel a bit more relieved that I had a rebuilt trans that I could take care of. In return it has taken care of me. No issues whatsoever.
In early 1980’s Jack Roush the first to install the Cummins B series as a test engine which came from Onan generator
In 1990 a dually Cummins 4x4 was listed for 21, ooo fully loaded.

Any chance you guys will have an episode on the light duty diesel on the half ton trucks? For example the 3.0L inline 6 LM2 Duramax....
I loved this one!!
Wow what an amazing podcast
What CPL IS THE WATER TO AIR IC MOTOR? I'm looking for a set of water cooled injection lines ,DAP has the intake horn/cooler.
My 1992 Dodge cummins 12 valve 4x4 5 speed manual was 19500 bucks I’ll take 5 more !!
I need the whole dash top to bottom on my 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 12V Cummins, preferably made out of fiberglass or some other material that doesn't crack every where.
Guys eaton fuller makes 6spd manuals that bolt up to the Cummins they also have the medium duty 9 spd that can handle 6.7 ho Cummins and you can get it in a automated version.

It's the 10 speed road ranger RTX that's a direct bolt on as well
On any automatic transmission at least the ones were talking about here today a good quality shift. Kit is very important I like for every day driving trans go tow and go. No I wanna tell you a mistake. A lot of people make they get these aftermarket valve bodies and a crank up those wind pressure that’s OK if you’re just gonna make some passes down quarter mile but what you’re doing is you’re shoving a torque converter forward harder than what the designers intend it. It’s hard on the thrust bearing and the Engine, it’s just not good it’s OK to have some additional line pressure which the towing goes shift it does but it keeps it within reason and your shifts do you want them quick and firm minimal overlap and use a good quality transmission fluid don’t be buying the cheap stuff all right guys this is six in a row jim from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania
Failing transmissions are still a common theme with RAM. Why they cannot use an Allison is mystery and a shame. Great engine but everything else is garbage.

@@andrewslagle1974 sometimes people can’t handle the truth, if a person did some research of the the first dog Cummins and the ford 300 6 cylinder. You might actually learn something instead of trying to tell people to do something.

@@andrewslagle1974 I owned a few 300 6 cylinder fords. The first dog cumings was just that a dog right from the factory did not have a intercooler . Yes you could do a lot to make the dog a lot stronger but it was a dog at 7000 foot altitude. So if you don’t know what you are talking about might be some people do know what they are talking about so don’t be telling other people to stop talking crap. Some people just might know a little more then you do about somethings.

Anyone who remembers those strait 6s in both ford and gm, can attest to the power they had. Push a full size truck like a v8. That old 4.3 liter v6 from gm would also surprise you.

I gotta 1989 cummins engine rebuilt in my garage with new crank and new head
Wait, so my 2006 subaru Outback Turbo charged engine produces less nox than the Naturally Aspirated Engines?
Cummins in Dodge = the birth of the Hotshotter movement
Current ram 2020 owner. This is my third cummins and as usual the motors are good. The rest of the truck sucks as usual, bad tranny, poor front ends, cheaper inside feel than the other two. Almost too much sacrifice to have a inline 6 diesel. Now with the emissions issues from my ram with 172000 compared to zero emissions problems on my 2017 6.7 Ford with 162000.
Dodge still doesn’t have a trans worth a damn unless you drop$7000 or more into it and I absolutely love my 6.7 cummins wish I could put the for 6 speed behind it

That’s a lie
There is some misinformation in here. The highest hp factory VE Cummins was 212hp. Also you can not get anywhere near 300hp on a non intercooled engine with just a fuel screw turn. The turbo on the non ic-s won't support 300hp without piston melting egts regardless of what pump and injectors you put in front of it. Maybe he meant 200hp detuned to 160 That they could probably do. Old Yellow was an August of 1988 built truck so I know these engines very well. I have also had experience with those 1970's Mitsubishi diesel trucks and they were horrendous.

I saw some paper work where cummins got 300 hp out of the marine diesels but with seawater after coolers heaver cranks, stronger rodds and different ip. The b series is a low hp motor with lighter components i think 210 was the maxhp on that cpl because the 215 engines had the high hp components in them i also have never seen a dozer with a 6 b engine making over 200 hp dozers do their work with gears not horspower
@bcbloc02
Жыл бұрын
@@donerickson7869 370hp was the highest hp mechanical 12v b series. same rods and crank as 91.5+ truck engines but with different lower compression pistons and camshaft with more duration as they were intended to run 3000rpm versus 26-2800. They had P7100 injection pumps as well. When not provided with infinite water to cool with like in marine 250hp was the top on land rating for 12V 6b engines and again with p7100 pumps. They also were built with A , MW, and Nippondenso EP9 pumps all with various hp and torque ratings for different applications. There are probably 1000 different 5.9 build configurations.
If only Ford that owns Cummins made a pickup with a Cummins Allison combo. Perfect pickup.
The newer Cummins semi truck engines are trash. Isx15 and X15 they need a rebuild at like 700,000 miles.

That's because of all the emissions that they have hanging off the motor all of the regen stuff. So that the motor isn't even breathing fresh air without the set of the regen stuff
